DemonGroover 8836 Posted September 25, 2013 I was chatting to an old mate on Skype when he asked if i wanted to jump onto DayZ for a while. Sure, i said. He was part of a clan so i knew he played on particular servers. He gave me the address of a DayZ Overwatch server and i logged in. I knew something was amiss when the first thing i saw upon spawning was 8 motorbikes standing side by side on the road. My next stage of astonishment was the Debug monitor. It actually told me how many players were within 1500m of me! There were literally 100's of vehicles, scores of random barracks and various other high powered shit everywhere. My mate, for some reason, swears by these servers but as i logged off after an hour or so (which basically involved him flying a Huey and me gunning down every single bastard we saw) i left him with the words. "You're not going to like Standalone, mate!" Now i've know about the 1000's of vehicles, custom load out servers etc etc but the little piece of info telling me how many players were within 1500m of me really made me shake my head. My question though is: Are there anymore bizarre little servers out there that have "special" additions?

DemonGroover 8836 Posted September 25, 2013 Definitely vanilla is the way to go. However i think there must be thousands of players out there, like my mate, who have a completely skewed idea of what DayZ is all about. He only started playing after the mods of the mod explosion. If he cant find a vehicle, high end weapon and a Huey in the first hour of playing he isn't interested. I've said it before but i think an awful lot of the newer DayZ players are not going to understand the Standalone at all. Think i should re-evaluate my friends...

jovial 17 Posted September 25, 2013 It may not be part of vanilla, in so far that Rocket never got around to implementing it, and has it only chalked down as something that will be put in way down the road of standalone, but once I discovered mods that gave us base building, there was no going back to vanilla for me. I like to play in a persistant environment, but if I can't somehow accumulate items in a more secure manner than putting tents that will inevitably get nuked/found by hackers, I see no point in playing basically. Luckily there are mods like Epoch and Origins, and although they have their faults, those are still where I find the most enjoyment in the game. I also enjoy finding more vehicles than vanilla, where it was a major chore to fix anything, if you could even find it in the first place. Personally I want a server where you can realistically get vehicles, maybe even drivable but damaged when spawned sometimes, but where most military grade weapons and vehicles are either EXTREMELY rare or non-existant. And where the only aircraft should be civilian helicopters, those also extremely rare. I at least hope that standalone won't be too cheap with the car spawns, not vanilla-cheap. :)
TxReaper 17 Posted September 25, 2013 I more or less have given up on the standalone, I just look forward to new maps on the mod.

Cars shouldn't be everywhere, but 200 cars on a map as big as this wouldn't be unrealistic.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) Looks like your mate and imo 99% of the DayZ player base confuses DayZ with ZSB/Wasteland... Edited September 25, 2013 by Enforcer

Guest Posted September 25, 2013 I once had a server that showed all players locations on the map, admittedly there were about 10-15 AI also shown, but it was pretty stupid, I mean the amount of bases I found....

timedance 120 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) nowadays - dayZ is high-tech war. All private servers are maxed out of +vehicles and +weapons..The mistake happened, that dayz-mod allowed private hives! this was a big mistake! This destroyed the orginal dayz-feeling... COD-KIDDIES TAKE OVERHAND OF DAYZ - STOP IT / STOP IT WITH THE STANDALONE ONLY IRON-SIGHT AIM - ONLY RARE LOOT - ONLY RARE HIGHTECH-WEAPONSONLY 1 EXEMPLAR OF EACH VEHICLE(which must be first repaired) - NO SELFBLOODBAG(teamplay must be forced)NO SIDECHAT(only direct contact) - AND > TAKE OUT THE LEE ENFIELD, CHANGE IT TO MOSIN NAGANT(with scope addon) THATS IT! ps: ADMIN pinn this shit ! :D Edited September 25, 2013 by TiMEDANCE

The Aquatic Land Walrus 565 Posted September 25, 2013 I personally don't mind servers like this.I go on a lot of servers that just have things like a few more vehicles, or a set of 2 barracks are berezino though. These servers are good to go on in order to practice PVP, or avoiding enemies. brzator47@gmail.com 524 Posted September 25, 2013 That makes two of us. Cars shouldn't be everywhere, but 200 cars on a map as big as this wouldn't be unrealistic. The map is only big for a computer game though. The towns/villages and the distance between them is too small to have a realistic amount of cars available on the map considering the fact that they travel at (close to) real life speed. It is one of those areas where "realism" is sacrified a little for gameplay reasons. But yeah, many people are going to hate the standalone I think. Your average DayZ player these days wants to hop on a server, drive around a bit, find weapon in one of the 100 new barracks, kill a few players, get in a chopper and fly/crash it, get killed, repeat. Standalone is going to be too different to what they're used to even if isn't that much different to actual DayZ mod.
Razorblade2609 13 Posted September 25, 2013 Yeah I'm gonna have this site up while I play standalone just to see this web site blow up with men and kids crying ''Why is this SOO HARD there aren't any cars and I can't find a rocket launcher that shoots chainsaws this game shouldn't be this way what is wrong with the people who made it please patch this games so I can find all my gear in 15 minutes or less or Im going to ask for my money back'' I feel for you site mods that are gonna have to delete and lock 500 post a day for awhile. Zombie Jesus 723 Posted September 25, 2013 Went on the forums (a week ago, I think?) and saw some chap who was defending his server, which had fighter jets enabled. Had to hold myself back from posting something, there. I saw a Taviana server called fun with vehicles that has hundreds of attack helicopters and fighter jets. Even worse a lot of the vehicles had AS50s in the inventory and DMR's were like makarovs. I enjoy casual DayZ and mods of the mod from time to time but that was too much even for me. Although I did pull off one of my best kills ever by tricking a pair of tanks into a satchel charge trap (which you spawned with). I look forward to the standalone providing more to do in a more locked down experience, but shoot me now if it is just repackaged vanilla DayZ. I think both sides will whine considering how many additions are being added that many people might label "casual." I hope for an evolving DayZ experience that involves crafting, base building, and other pursuits besides just finding gear and then getting bored. Word. To your mother. mercules 1290 Posted September 26, 2013 I'm of mixed opinion on these. Some are really bad, some are okay. I like Vanilla, but there are times I want to do something else. This would be why I am currently running an Epoch server. I want to build a base but I don't want it to be player housing that you can't break into like Origins, I want it to be destructible given enough effort, but still want to be able to "secure" it. In other words I want the placement and planning to count. This isn't a horrible thing that pulls it too far away from DayZ. Yes, I can stockpile things and they can be locked away but really a Base Base becomes a target and a place for people to camp. It adds a different element to the whole game without pulling it too far afield. Well, and friggin cinderblocks are hard to loot with the Real Weight system in place. You put a bunch of effort into building a base, get a small bit of security from it and then need to work on maintaining it. Things like Breaking Point where they put more guns in and simply bumped up the zombies to try and compensate and then threw in a few buggy things like Bloodsuckers just don't capture DayZ very well. There was just too much loot and having to kill 20 zombies at a helicopter crash didn't mean a thing when you could find a couple vehicles with 50 cal machine guns on them or blaze away with a DMR based battle rifle and find an ammo box at nearly every crash site with 10 DMR mags in it. The Helo crashes were so common that you could spawn the zombies from one while looting another. Tons of loot at Devil's castle, extra barracks, NEAF more loot than NWAF on vanilla. It was just way to easy to gear up and that made it dull. There are mods that add to vanilla. Auto Refuel isn't a horrible thing and saves you minutes of tedium filling jerry cans and emptying them. Depending on the script it can take almost as long as using multiple jerry cans for most vehicles. My friend was trying out new servers and hopped on one all inocent. I joined him and while we were trying to meet up he found himself a MORTAR in a deerstand. I want to know who hunts with a mortar? :)
