Hunting Knife as a weapon

Recommended Posts

This was mentioned about a year ago as a suggestion for the mod. I'm now reviving it as a suggestion for the Standalone.

Having the hunting knife as a melee weapon would look much better from an aesthetic standpoint rather than everyone running around with large hatchets swung over their shoulder. Knives are also extremely common IRL, so why not have them as a weapon in the game?

I would be shocked if they didn't have it... and hopefully they'll have a few types just for variety, ie, chef's knife, butcher's knife, a couple hunting knives, bayonets, folding knives, etc...

Why only spec ops combat knives? The kitchen knife or cleaver is the most used weapon to kill your family in their sleep...just saying because every weapon suggested has to be "military".

The hunting knife right now is pretty "military" as well... combo edge Seal Pup... oops, that's "SEAL" Pup... :/

They should have an example of all types, IMO, ie:

Personally I don't think damage should vary all that much.

"Knives" seems a very....   specific subject.

I'm willing to bet "Everything is a melee weapon" has crossed the BI brainstorming sessions at some point.

A solid melee-combat system and a couple of rough and tumble mocap sessions, you're laughing.

Q: Can we use hunting knives as a melee weapon then?
A:Sure. it's planned but melee is under active redevelopment so it's not done yet. [Source]

Surley tho, knives should have different damage levels guys?

I mean brass knuckle duster -0.22 calibre knifey knife there cannot possibly to the same amoutn of damage to human flesh as say, of I dont know, a Meat cleaver??  EVEN if you stick it in before you shoot! (Yes, I also saw what you did there ;) )

The knuckle duster would probably do a lot of damage if you fired it point blank ( meaning stuck in ). The blade would pierce the skin, the bullet would travel quite a bit or maybe penetrate the body and the gases would bbq the inside.

Damage also depends on what type of weapon you use. A meat cleaver could cause heavily bleeding flesh wounds that need some attention when bandaging while a stabbing weapon ( f.e. a really big nail ) would cause not so lethal puncture wounds but could also hit something important if stuck deep enough in the right place.

Meh, if the blade is of acceptable length I believe the most important factor is how sharp it is... is it dull, "working sharp", or can it whittle human hairs? After that I think pointy > non-pointy and heavy > light.
