TIC 1050 Posted August 4, 2013 From looking at that video, that's a big improvement. I'm surprised the car didn't automatically combusted to flames at 0:50 :P Imagine with those types of vehicle handling with an ability to shoot out of car windows

AP_Norris 1018 Posted August 4, 2013 Sexy! Maybe this is what they mean by completely re designing the vehicles?
Level19 19 Posted August 4, 2013 to have that much effort on cars on an apocalypse scenario game is going to take more effort than actually fixing other bugs in the game itself
OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted August 4, 2013 to have that much effort on cars on an apocalypse scenario game is going to take more effort than actually fixing other bugs in the game itselfSo? This is supposed to eventually be a 'perfect' game. Of course no game can be perfect, but it can certainly be damn good! Once we hit a full-release (not Alpha, not beta, FULL release) we HOPEFULLY will see the dev team expand and break off into segments... a team for fixing bugs, and separate teams all collaborating with each other and the bug team to come up with and introduce new content. At least that would be the smart thing to do.

OfficerRaymond 2064 Posted August 4, 2013 i have never stated it being perfect. im just saying the genre of the car video is far from being the main thing to focus on DayZI never said that you said anything about it being perfect :P However, if you ask anyone what the main focus of DayZ is, you'll get a million varying answers. There is NO FOCUS to this game. Granted, the focus in development is zombies/survival and for now, getting a working game together. But once all that is complete and we're in a full release mode, then content should be added. Remember, cars aren't even going to be in the Alpha. Also, Dean has the 'if you aren't going to do it right then don't do it' attitude. If they are going to add cars to the standalone version of the game, then why would they not do it right? Of course it would take some work, but that is the point of making a game... What would we get in games like Halo, Battlefield, or any other game for that matter if the developers just did the bare minimum? Many games do do the bare minimum... look at Arma 2 as an example when it comes to car mechanics. AWESOME games series, but the car mechanics SUCK hardcore. Of course Arma 2 was limited by tech of the date, but how much better would it be if the cars were like they were in this video? DayZ SA won't have the same restrictions.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted August 4, 2013 I don't like most racing/car games (Aside from the GTA series) but this has gotten me drooling. No more exploding Offroads for hitting a low lying moss covered rock wall hidden by grass and killing the guy you just picked up who went afk...Im still VERY sorry about that if your reading this. Korsbaek 1778 Posted August 4, 2013 Am i the only one here thinking that this would be an annoyance.Imagine finding your first car and totaling it... And how do you repair it then? You can't just use scrap metal or something.

Maybe just small repairs can be done with toolkit like banging the body into shape.Bullet holes and stuff gotta be patched up by scrap.

Banging the body into shape after colliding with a tree at 70 mph... That just can't be done. The only positive thing i can see here is that cars wouldn't blow up from hitting something. And it would be awesome if the crash itself could kill you. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Never. Doubt. Ducktape. NEVER.*Edit* Yeah.. Banging the body into shape after colliding with a tree at 70 mph... That just can't be done. The only positive thing i can see here is that cars wouldn't blow up from hitting something. And it would be awesome if the crash itself could kill you. You'd be surprised actually. The cars in Chenarus aren't the fiberglass and aluminum tin cans we drive now. While yeah pounding out a dent in a car that wrapped around a tree going 70 MPH won't 'fix it' you can still salvage parts from the car itself or do HEAVY repairs. And perhaps that'd be the point. Sure the Arma system deals with 'wrecked' cars by blowing them up, but lets say Rocket finds a way to merge the tech in this game with Standalone for vehicles. It would probably take a bit of work but the payout could be very rewarding. Lets say someone drives his car into a tree, for all intents and purposes destroying the front end and the engine (and a mechanic in game marks the vehicle as 'unrepairable' and marks it for despawn after 2 restarts and makes the vehicle respawn after a 3rd in its spawn location), and dies in the accident. Another player comes along and finds the wreck, grabs what he can from the dead driver's equipment and goes off. Another driver finds the remains of the car and strips off a part that's still in 'workable' condition (doors, tires, fuel tank, ect) and mounts it in a compatible vehicle. Comes back a day later and peels off every part he can that's not 'destroyed' then takes them to a garage/workshop/player base to do 'heavy' repairs. Chris529 380 Posted August 4, 2013 You mean slow down?NEVER! No speed limits after all.You can go as fast as you like on a straight, clear road but there should be more consequences than a simple tyre change and some engine parts if you fly off the road into a tree.
