A A List Of Buildings That Would Be Fun To See In Chernarus

The mapmakers of DayZ have gone through a lot lately to make the maps of DayZ and Arma 3 Spectacular, from it being getting arrested for over 4 months to taking a trip to the actual Chernarus to model their map after it. Some of their milestones so far include making ~90% of the buildings enterable, expanding the map quite a bit, and expanding and adding to towns and suburbs. That being said, there are still a few buildings that I personally believe they should include. If you come up with one, i'll post it here. Be sure to describe it a little too.

 

1. A Supermarket

    I'm not talking about the little markets we have now, but an actual supermarket. There would be the main area, a storage area, and you could even get to the roof of it. This building would become a high traffic area, as it would supply food, water, medical supplies (such as bandages, not morphine), and maybe even guns(some stores sell guns).

 

2. A Car dealership

    Why a car dealership? Well, cars are valuable, and the possibility of finding a car here would be somewhat good, making it a high traffic area. Some people just want to make a hit and run, some people would like to hold up in it and stop intruders from stealing any cars. Either way, this would become a great building to put into towns like Berezino.

 

3. A Police Station

     This would become the main area to find weapons in a town like Elektro. Personally, a firestation shouldn't have that many guns in it. The police station will also be the home of hand cuffs and tasers.

 

4. A Bigger Office Building

     If you think about it, the current size of the office building is extremely small. I'm not saying make a huge one, but maybe a little bigger. It would be fun to travel up a few flights of escalators to get to the roof of the building, where you have an amazing view of the town below.

 

5. A Bigger Hospital

     The hospital that you currently find is small as heck. They should make that a little bigger, and add multiple levels for you to find different supplies

 

6. A post office.

     The post office would be home to letters/paper (to make a diary perhaps) and also to a pharmacy, which would be a small area to find medical supplies if you don't want to go exploring the big hospital I listed above.

 

7. A Mall

     Imagine a mall that is full of different stores and supplies. Imagine it having big department stores. Maybe it could be a place where bandits are holding somebody captive. Maybe not. If you have played Left 4 Dead 2, you are probably thinking of dead center (the final half of the campaign mission). Now, imagine with not as many zombies, and it being a giant loot area. Personally, that sounds awesome.

 

That's all I could think of. Try coming up with something, and I'll add it to the list.

Chernarus is kinda small and has a small population, that would not excuse the existance of such big structures.

The police station and a bigger supermarket sound pretty good ideas but i dont really like the other ones, Bandits will just camp there and ruin it for people

1. A larger style market than the one we have now sounds fun, I doubt there'd really be any 'Walmart' sized stores, or Department stores, but a larger place with more possible loot spawns would be interesting, albeit with lowered loot chance. 

 

2. While a car dealership as a unique type of building just to make the map interesting would be nice, I'd reckon that having more than one or two car spawns at any of these would just be unrealistic (and annoying, because people would flock here for vehicles), as people would want to steal these more than ever given the chance post-apocalypse. Also, (From what I know) large car dealerships are not common outside of places like the United States, so you'd only expect a few to spawn on the map. However, it's still an interesting idea.

 

3. I believe it's been discussed (Although I'm not sure if confirmed) that the devs want to have buildings like a police station, so you're probably in luck. There will be a prison, at the very least, though.

 

4. In the standalone, most of the buildings are going to have fully explorable interiors, like (probably) the office building. However, some differences in the ones that exist such as a 'high-rise' sound like a good idea.

 

5. They've actually shown screenshots of the expanded interior of the hospital, but I don't know that a huge hospital would really fit for Chernarus. The hospitals that there are as is are quite sizable for a small place like Chernarus. Even in the US, hospitals are rare in towns that are around the size of Elektro/Cherno, most would have smaller clinics and the hospitals would be in the surrounding metropolitan areas. Of course, that's not to say that they wouldn't have one, as Chernarus would still have the need for hospitals.

 

6. I don't think any post offices would have a pharmacy connected to them, but having one on the map seems cool. Though there really isn't much potential for unique loot (Unless they want to add 'lost' mail or envelopes as junk.) However, they would add to the aesthetics of the map, just as the train-stations do.

 

7. The mall is the only one I'm really against. For one thing, it makes very little sense in an almost-entirely rural country, and it would be one of the most camped areas on the map. It wouldn't fit in anyway, but everyone would see it as a huge opportunity for loot, therefore inciting bandits to camp it.

A pharmacy might be a great place to have if we have a more in depth medical system, because in a infectious, cold, unsheltered world like DayZ drugs are life.

A police station should be reasonably fortified have an armoury with the highest weapon spawn rate in the cities inside it, however realistically it would've already been stripped almost clean like the supermarkets so after a bit of player traffic it might be too much risk for the chance of reward.

I disagree with people saying car dealerships wouldn't realistically have cars still in them... As 98% of people already have cars.

Who risks their life trying to break into a car that makes loud noises when you break into it attracting zombies, keys might not be there...

It's a lot of hassle to go to when you could be going for food or firearms that you don't already have.

They'd be pretty bashed up just lying in the middle of town and I think cars should be more common anyway, but harder to keep operational and generally attract zombies towards you.

DayZ seems to rural for a mall, maybe a shopping centre is more suited?

We need banana trees. who doesn't want to taste the beautiful sweet mushiness of the amazing banana? you could find them in the wild growing beutiful green yellow and red bananas that you could sustain yourself with. everyone knows the food of the apocalypse is not the beans but the banana.

more diverse Warehouses ( car assembly line, textile factory, farm supply warehouse...), Mechanics Shops (tools),and of course, hidden bunkers in forests (ultra rare) and of course, Bars... :D

I'm guessing that you're American and know fuck-all about the outside world (No offense intended there). Besides, if you had guns i the freaking supermarket then it'd be too easy, I support the iea of a shopping center/mall , lot of zombies in it though

no seriously, there is no point in adding buldings, better just make interiers (badly spelled right?) for all buildings.

I'm guessing that you're American and know fuck-all about the outside world (No offense intended there). Besides, if you had guns i the freaking supermarket then it'd be too easy, I support the iea of a shopping center/mall , lot of zombies in it though

In New Zealand we have gun shops or more specifically hunting & fishing shops.

I've never heard of anything like supermarkets selling guns.

Well i cant wait for a prison.

 

An underground military bunker or nuclear silo would be cool as well, but it would have to be pitch black.

 

I would actually like to see a civilian airport terminal as well rather than just being military.

 

Maybe some Roman ruins - a small colosseum?

 

It would be nice if the Cherno Hotel had some levels that were enterable.

1) A circus. Big colorful tents, strange loot, animal cages, trailers, the whole bunch. Maybe some dangerous really hungry escaped animals? Say a lion or tiger. Also vehicles, big old trucks, maybe a caravan, power generators.

 

2) A zoo. Can use cages as temporary safehouses, infected can't enter. Can also lock a player in a cage. Same as above for escaped animals. Companion wild dog source maybe?

 

2) Childrens' playgrounds, for that eerie feeling. And also for when (if) infected children are implemented.

 

3) Post office. Getting a chance to read people's mail at the break of the infection (being in russian would be a problem though, needs some thought). Immersion. Also vehicles, small trucks, bikes, etc.

 

4) Museum. Looted semi destroyed/vandalized. Paintings, old stuff, with captions next to them (language barrier again as above) informing the player about Chernarus and it's history. More immersion.

 

5) Factory. Already present, but not enterable. Automotive, gaz production line for example. Much loot for repairing vehicles, but also small tight spaces, low visibility (heavy machinery, pipes, debris), no light source (flashlight mandatory), kind of a maze to get in/out. Also power generators.

 

6) An old cinema or a plain theatre. Maybe you can repair the projector machine in the cinema (would also need a power generator), and play a couple of minutes fragment of an old russian movie on the screen.

I don't think that the Roman empire spread out as far as to wear Chernarus is canonically.

They did conquer the land that is now the Czech Republic, but not eastern Russia.

To add my 2 cents. IMO new enterable buildings adds more space for new content (usable items etc.), and more options in regards to finding certain loots (more on that coming up), while also giving the player a break from running through the bush.

 

Small doctor office or walk-in health clinic- Obviously these would have some medicines and pain killers etc.. maybe some office stuff. And as I mentioned, you could go to these instead of the hospital.

 

National Park - Meaning a section of forest, maybe in a valley, which maybe is protected because of some species of animal which is only found there. There would be a dirt road running through it I would imagine, and at the start of that road, put an official wildlife ranger cabin. In there a chance to find some kind of rifle, maybe a pistol, and ammo. bear whistle (used to possibly keep bears and maybe other potentially lethal predators away, or as a distraction device for players and zombies?), maybe a tranquilizer gun with some darts, bear traps and no doubt some canned food, along with some kind of drink. A good find but dangerous because of the wildlife around that area, like bears...     From the dirt road, there would be pathways into the forest which the ranger would have used to scout around to check on wildlife etc...  Maybe some of these paths lead to simple wood and dirt bunkers, and small wooden tree forts which are camouflaged with materials from that forest, branches etc..  these small hideouts originally were for watching wildlife, but usable by players of course. I suppose a ranger pickup could be found there as well, with a gun rack in the back. :D

 

Small veterinary office - minor office supplies, pain killers possibly, plus canned dog and cat food, eat it if you are desperate but plan to be sick and maybe puke half of it up lol. and a tranquilizer stick used for caged animals if necessary, but the player could have some serious fun with it I think.

 

Dentist - Another place to find minor office stuffs, pain killers, and maybe tanks of laughing gas (nitrous oxide)? hehe   Dentist office could be found in the mall, or just as a small office in town.

 

Food bank - Place to find canned food stuffs other than supermarket or corner store (corner store should have a shotgun under the counter hehe).

 

Thrift store - Place to find clothing, blankets and maybe something like a bat or hockey stick, these would also be in homes and stores...

 

Anyways, sorry if these have come up before. If so, I have not seen it or found it as of yet.

1- A swimming pool. Don't ask me why, it'd just be cool. It has to have a waterslide too.

 

2- A heap of other random shops too. Pubs, chemists, $2 stores, furniture stores, music stores, hardware stores...I could go on.

I have another building suggestion which I do not think has come up, at least in this thread. And I have not heard them mentioned in vids I have watched.

I love the idea of a mall. Have a little bit of everything. You would make a lot of entrances and maybe a few docks where trucks would Park and drop of stuff. I think this building would need to have a lot of zombies and maybe a bandit squad or 2 that would camp out.
