If you could go back to being a noob, would you?

Recommended Posts

Simple question: if you could erase all knowledge of what DayZ was and how to play it, would you?

I think I would. DayZ was at it's best when I was a new guy. I made lots of mistakes and discovered something new in the game every day. It was incredible. I loved every moment of it. The world felt so real, the players were terrifying and mysterious (they still are in a way), the zombies were a massive threat, and I killed myself if I had less than 10 thousand blood.

In a sense, yes.

But I'd only erase the locations and way zeds work, I've had the same knowledge of players' behavior since the beginning.

Yes I would. DayZ seemed like a totally different experience when I first started playing (as did any game for that matter, really) and the littlest things like a Lee Enfield seemed like the best thing in the game to me.

I wouldn't do it. The only progress you can make in DayZ is you expirience, the longer you play the better you play. Even if you played from the beginning, in one year you will be better. And I think this is something really valuable, especially for the upcoming SA.

Hell yes I would! That includes never seeing a video of DayZ, then it would be the ultimate experience.

Hell yea I would, I used to find running around lost in the wilderness so much fun and would have extreme adrenaline rushes when confronted by other players. Finding even a moderate weapon was a rush and gearing up was a huge task. I set up tents with basic gear and slowly learned the map and made mistakes. My first vehicle was an insane discovery that I managed to stash away and use for two weeks by confining myself to the North East part of the map. Then the hacking and duping wave of last summer came and gear was abundant. Still a fun game (not the hacker part) but something was lost when people got used to having high end gear within 15 minutes of spawning.

I miss the old days.

I actually quite enjoyed being a noob. The first gun, first car, and first sniper all felt like heaven.

I'd do it, even though I didn't play DayZ yet. I'm waiting for SA, but in this time I saw many DayZ videos and played games similiar to it, so I'm some kind of advanced newbie-no idea about Arma II mechanics or controls, yet a lot of practical experience-I'm not the person who asks to team whenever he sees a survivor or hunts zombies for safety anymore. I'd like to erase it bebcause I won't have a fresh start-I'll know what to do from the first step.

a lee enfield still is the best thing in the game for me. Oh the joy of drawing bandits in with the dinner bell.....

No, the only thing you get by looking back is a sore neck ;)

I left for many months and with all the changes I feel noob again.

Personally, I don't think I would want to go back to being brand new.

The learning curve for me was steep (I'm not a big FPS player), and I was far too trusting in the beginning.

The first month or so was probably the best time i've ever had in gaming, and i've said in the past that i would love to erase my memory and be a newb again but thinking about it there's been so many awesome moments playing this game over the past year that i could never willingly wipe them all from memory, not to mention the good friends i've made along the way.

So i'm looking to the future and hoping the standalone turns it up a notch bringing us a greater even more intense gaming experience.

@AppleJack100: That sig of yours is bloody distracting when your trying to type shit out, couldn't stop looking at it.

I still probably play like a noob compared to what most guys would consider.

I've been at it for a year, but took about five months off gaming when my daughter was born.

It's been a fun journey, and after logging back in to 1.7.7.1 a couple weeks ago I felt pretty "new" all over again.

And played a ton of Diablo III in there too... what a waste.  :)

I feel like a noob every time I die. Generally thinking 'How could I have been so STUPID?'

I feel like a noob every time I respawn until I get the crowbar, or ideally the hatchet, which makes running around cities, especially on a low-pop server, relatively consequence-free.

Then you fired it in the middle of Cherno and had your first "wtf" moment. :)
