kanibal 0 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) This might sound like a dumb question, but shouldn't doors open inward instead of outward?I've noticed most often than not, when I have to open a door to a building, it usually opens outward, which I find weird, since where I live in every single door opens inward. For me, this seems a little bit awkward, considering that you then have to step back because the door is in the way, or else you get dragged (and stuck during the drag animation) by the door and sometimes end up breaking your legs. Or you're just running away from some players/zombies and quickly have to find some shelter and find yourself either not getting the door open (that's another thing. We should be able to open it with the press of one key, and not have to nervously scroll with the mouse wheel) or getting the door open and having to either step back or get dragged by the door and sometimes dying in the most stupid way possible by a faulty door opening system. In other words, it is not practical as it is right now.I take it this change would hugely make a difference in the stand alone where they've made most buildings enterable, and from what I've seen, the doors open outward right now. What are your thoughts? thatcommiekid 57 Posted June 14, 2013 I think this is going to be addressed in the standalone, but most of us have experienced the breaking of legs due to random things.
joe_mcentire 2074 Posted June 14, 2013 well...in most cases. but public buildings for example....no not necessarily
Jasmer 77 Posted June 14, 2013 public buildings open in and outward mostly. however houses should indeed open inward

ImageCtrl 719 Posted June 14, 2013 I´m not a fan of doors open/closed only. Best solution for me is like in dead linger. Every angle is possible. Sorry for offtopic. Back to Topic.
dallas 5195 Posted June 14, 2013 Also you know you can stand to the left of the door, when you open it.
kanibal 0 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) I open doors outward IRL..Here most doors open outside. When door is moving, it is taking lot of space :DWell, I open outward if I'm already inside a room, obviously. IMO it's way more logical to open them that way. In a real life setting they should be designed that way as to make sure you don't accidentaly hit someone, that is walking outside, with the door, hence only opening inside to a room, and not the other way around. In DayZ however, that is not a big concern of course, but if you're in a hurry and need to go inside a building the doors should be designed to open inside a building.I´m not a fan of doors open/closed only. Best solution for me is like in dead linger. Every angle is possible. Sorry for offtopic. Back to Topic.Yes, that's the best solution I suppose. Opening them either direction seems way better. Also you know you can stand to the left of the door, when you open it.As I said before, if you're in a hurry with adrenaline flowing through your bloodstream you probably will not think about standing to your left to open the door. You'll just want the door open as fast as you so that you can get inside. Imagine you're running away from a sniper that is taking pot shots at you. The second you stop to open the door you'll have to face the dreaded door opening outward system, probably get stuck behind the door because you forgot to stand to the left of the door, run your way around the door and enter the building. Those few seconds give the sniper the chance to fire a successful shot at you and kill you. I've had this happen countless times, to me and my victims. SmashT 10907 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) oh man revolving doors would just be a slaughterhouse of broken legs for everyone involved.I'm just imagining a player trying to "time" when to move correctly through the door so he doesn't get crushed into the wall. ImageCtrl 719 Posted June 14, 2013 Yes, that's the best solution I suppose. Opening them either direction seems way better. My mistake, you have misunderstood me because of my poor knowledge of english. The doors are to be integrated in only one direction, but in this direction in each angle. /watch?v=PFVisRzhcM0#t=2m20s

That is what makes more sense to me and what I was getting at.But I guess the idea of making doors open either way isn't bad either. If I'm not wrong Hitman, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six had those systems and it worked really well when getting out of sticky situations Edited June 14, 2013 by Kanibal
monolith1985 109 Posted June 14, 2013 i think getting your legs broke by a door/gate is a rite of passage in dayz, you haven't done everything in the game til that happensfor me it was a gate, and it eventually led to my deathi think some doors should open both ways in the standalone, but i dont think its a high priority issue
JSparks (DayZ) 109 Posted June 15, 2013 Usually when I open a door I put my hand on the doorknob, but apparently using Jedi mind tricks to open doors works too.
