DayZ Double Developer Blog 14th May 2013

Recommended Posts

What I am looking forward to is when some entertaining bloke sets up his radio in a remote part of the map and starts broadcasting a show regularly; becoming an in-game celebrity. Much like how DR Wasteland pioneered the whole medic thing.

EDIT: Updating players with info, spreading rumors, warning for hotspots. The eyes and ears of Chernarus!

Ho will this work if there are multiple servers?

Chances are this will render popular servers extremely difficult if not impossible to log into, whereas less travelled servers dead, boring and unpopulated.

Players will only want to venture to the servers where this kind of tech is being used...

@rocket2guns

DayZ Client/Server Architecture is functionally complete! Large scale test occurring tomorrow for those in closed testing team

My reaction to the news (Warning: Might be a bit loud)

How would I know? :) All we have to go on is a short sentence on reddit.

But my guess is that it will be a cool way to make players find their "home" server and make every hive unique!

On one hand it will be great, but on the other hand, players will have to wait forever to get in to a server kindof like a luzer waiting in line to get into a popular nite club. Either that or suffer through playing on dreary, dead and boring servers.

Why can we not have something like EvE's MMO? You have hundreds of thousands of people logged on simultaneously, with everyone having the ability to communicate and interact with everyone else.

I demand we have something like this!!!

It sort of betrays the whole "survival" and "immersion" aspects that DayZ is going for if everyone can chat with everyone in a supposed apocalypse.

That, and consider how large the EvE world is... and how small (relatively) the map of DayZ is. 50 people at once is pushing it in my mind.

That's the one thing that I think BIS and Rocket need to make up their minds on. The persistent universe, because as of now... too many things poof on restart, too little incentive to stay on a server, and it's too easy to memorize everything. I hope later on, they'll be able to diversify the game map a bit (way way way down the road).

"Dean Hall says that a handful of people are already playing an alpha of the standalone version of the game, and that the public alpha will begin in or around June."

Yeh that's us. I thought that was already pretty well known? Basically there's a small group of closed testers comprising of most of the mods here, Reddit mods Bis employees etc. and has been for quite a while. I think there's 30 - 40 of us in total, maybe more. The next stage is to open that up to a larger group, streamers etc. unless they skip that, who knows.

Also, as far as I can see that interview just says they're reviewing the situation in June.

I can say it's looking good, more than that and I'll get beaten up. Looks like things are picking up now though so we should be getting some nice info over the next few days/weeks. E3 is one to look out for too, looks like they're planning to show some stuff off there.

Yea, I just got excited about the public alpha around June statement. I knew about what you said, but I guess I thought that had already happened. sigh.

Must say i'm quite impressed that none of you have spilled the beans (ehehehehe) on anything yet, what with the constant questioning and speculation.

Don't stress, the main thing that's been holding them back looks like it's complete so things should pick up pace a bit now.

I guarantee everyone that Standalone is merely a slideshow of Lightfoot taking his shirt off.

As you can see his chest is currently just one massive white pixel but for a small fee it will be rendered in super-high res.
