Less military stuffs

Recommended Posts

well it is realistic that there are atleast some very low amounts of certain military grade weapons... although abominations like the m-107 should leave the game completly...

i dont think that completly removing certain military grade weapons such as machineguns, military shotguns, certain sniper rifles is a good idea.

they should rather have huge downsides:

military guns and the according ammo for it are extremly rare, they might be more cumbersome and have more weight, maintenance is really difficult, since some are not made for harsh conditions, and finding the parts to repair the gun are also more rare and come with more weight.

so if someone will be lucky to find such a weapon he will probably still want to keep his AK, or his nagant, just because the ammo of these guns is not super rare, they jam and break less and maintenance is easier, and they still do their job pretty well, and are just a bit less efficient as a military grade weapon.

Who in their right mind would spend 2 hours in an open military base field where players are constantly fluctuating in and out looking for goodies that respawned, just to learn how to press the buttons. If I put you in a helicopter in real life, would you be able to fly it? (assuming you have no flight experience). A whole day isn't enough to replicate the experience of a seasoned helicopter pilot that has probably over atleast 5 years of air force training to fly it. (in real life). Plus, who is there to instruct you anyways? That would take forever to figure it out yourself and the risk in trying would be VERY HIGH.

I don't see how this is a response to what I said... Did I not say that it would be difficult to do so? Sorry I'm not a wordsmith that meet your great standards oh great and wonderful king of words... Who can't seem to read....

Sure players are going to be there, and yes if you had to press every button to fly a helicopter than yeah I doubt anyone would actually use it but my assumption of helicopters is pretty much this: It has it's basic functions the rest of it is saftey messures I doubt you have to press every button to learn it's purpose I doubt you actually have you USE every button to start, take off, and fly heli's. (Also you don't need to be part of any sort of military to learn how to fly... Maybe I'm wrong but I believe you can just go to a school to learn how to fly heli's and aircraft) I could be wrong, but seriously. Think about it, every switch, toggle, and button inside a heli to fly it? That's silly,

I know Rocket is going for realism, but think about it objectively, this is a video game. Is it going to be so realistic to fly a heli that it's not worth the players efforts to do so? Or is the realism going to be portrayed in a different way? (More difficult controls, wind turbulance, etc) I doubt much will happen to the Heli's I bet before he goes towards complete realism in a heli, they would be removed.

Although, I keep that I could just be a complete idiot who is talking out of his ass. Your call.

I personally hope the only weapons are either Russian or civilian. I don't mind finding Russian-only weapons in military bases, it's just the thousands of M4s and M16s I find everywhere, not to mention the .50 cals.

Unfortunately, Rocket mentioned in the devblog that an M4A1 has been committed, so it looks like that's not happening.

To my mind it would be good to delete most of military stuffs. Indeed, if players wanna play army-like, they have Arma 2 or 3 for this. In a zombie apocalypse scenario, who would be able to pilot a chopper ? Who would be able to get some military snipers as the as 50, moreover in Chernarus Russia ? Almost nobody !

I think that the only weapons which should be available are :

CZ550

Mosin-Nagant (any variant)

Winchester

Double-barred shotgun

AK variants

Uzi

SA58

Tokarev TT33

Nagant M1895

SVT-40

Well mostly WW2 weapons which are still common in EAST Europe countries. Also, no more rangefinder or NVG. For exemple, to replace NVG, headlamps would be awesome. Well i'm waiting for a realistic zombie apocalyspe game and not a disguised FPS as the mod is atm. It's really boring to be 1 shot killed from 400 meters without having a chance to survive. In such a scenario (epidemia apocalypse or economic revolution etc...) someone who has a mosin would be really well armed and have a big advantage. Atm in Dayz, someone with a lee enfield is like a bambi...

This is pure gold!

I love how you start lets get rid of most of the millitary stuff and then add in all the millitary stuff you like using EPIC!

Lets not forget either that Russia has probably more "millitary stuffs" as you put it around the country than probably any other nation on the planet so it's not unusual to see a lot of "millitary stuffs"

And it's not really boring to be shot at 400meters it's dumb. How about actually looking around you before you go running head long into the open! All I'm seeing here is a bambi whining about getting killed.

Well Rocket is going for realism, and most people don't know how to fly a helicopter is what I'm saying.

With Zombies/Infected in the game? I see..................................

Maybe the Americans jumped over to Chernaurus on one of their "protection" missions? :P

I don't fully agree with removing all non Russian weapons, but removing some so that at least it feels more like a ex-Soviet state would be better (I mean don't they use at least some European/American made weapons in places that used to belong to the USSR?).

I am no expert on the matter but it would be logical to presume so.

Edit: I would love to see a G3 in game :P

I take it that the OP meant "less modern military stuffs" which sounds like a marvellous idea after seeing servers full of people carrying AS50s.

Very unlikely to find these in a post-Soviet country as their guns laws are usually quite strict:

- Winchester

- Uzi

- SA58/FN FAL

Depending on whether Chernarus was invaded/occupied by the Germans in WW2, you might expect to find the odd KAR 98, MP40 or even an StG 44 hidden away in barns or houses.

I still think we need less and less "old world tech" and more things that are about survival.

Scavenging snacks from a supermarket is not survival it's early days looting, prepackaged snacks and factory made products should be RARE and precious, your average meal should be a squirrel on a stick or the occasional dog meat.

That goes the same for guns, guns might be very very sturdy, but ammunition factories are not running, neither are reloading powder manufactures.

Well we had one ( of many ? ) cases http://en.wikipedia....cannibal_attack and rocket did mention that the way why people became "zombies" is thought out and they are not "undead zombies".

thats completly true... i really want to see less of other countrie's weaponry... russian and civil weapons have enough variety already, and it makes it feel alot more authentic. and generally old weapons make it feel alot more apocalyptic... also, weapons like the makarov should be alot more efficient as they are now... one shot to the chest is mostly the end, and that should be reflected in the game.

Well....first i want to say that all those weapons were in military service at least once so your title is kind of a contradiction...the exception would be the double barrel which i can't tell if it was officially issued to troops long before our time. It would even filter out civilian versions of military weapons which they were modeled after which leaves us with a small variety. But i get your point and i want the same as you do.

Ye you are right, but i meant "no modern military stuffs" as noticed by Terminal Boy.

All the weapons i have listed are weapons that you might find in russia. And it's not about being a Bambi... If you dare speaking with such arrogance is because either you always play in a group, either you stay hidden in the forest 24/7. And of course, you can look around when you are a 1 hour spawn without binocular mister "please team, come pick me up with the heli near elektro cause i got killed"...

In the current mod, if you are alone on a 30 players server, you get killed in less than 5 hours unless if you stay in a tree... but a quick look in your sig and i see EXTRA VEHICLES, you are probably a guy who plays on idiot 400 vehicles servers and shoot on sight even on Bambis (cause Bambi means unarmed and not noob).

Also, for info, the weapons i have listed are not more military weapons as they are not used in any army anymore, they are used for hobbies (collecting or shot schools) and you won't find them on any warfield (unless AK variants in poor countries...).

There should be more incentive to go for the smaller guns.

If you're on foot, especially as a lone-wolf, a light-machine gun and a huge backpack full of gear shouldn't be a viable option. The LMG would be something you'd carry around in the back of your truck, to remove when you think you're getting close to some real action.

I'd like people to find submachine guns and think, "Damn! I can run around with this thing and it's not a pistol, it's great!"

Rather than saying less military gear i would prefer to find weapons that you would realistically find in Eastern Europe. I don't have a clue about gun laws and controls in other countries but here in Australia i wouldn't know where to find a gun - police station, army barracks, farmhouse?

Would you really find Winchesters or Lee Enfields in Eastern Europe? What commonly found guns would you see - AK's?

This has been suggested countless times. However it is something I think most DayZ players want. However I think SOME military grade weapons such as aks, pkms, and other guns should be in SA but make them as rare as the AS50 is right now.

Give me a authentic eastern bloc

-makarov

-stechkin APS

-CZ75

-Cz62

-AK-anything

-RP -anything

-mosin Nagant

-pk anything

-svd/psl

Etc, etc

And I will be happy forever

Occasion western gun wouldn't hurt, but way more rare. And Russians guns should be rare too

I agree, eastern bloc weapons should be the staple with the occasional crashed NATO chopper, plane etc to provide a few western weapons for variety.

I'd like to see many, many types of what is essentially the same gun.

It'd add a more aesthetic diversity; it'd be tiresome, seeing everyone toting around the exact same AK model.

Part of the fun is discovering each weapon, and it'll make players feel like they've more choices, however inconsequential.

Then show me how to fly a helicopter without anyone teaching you while zombies and players are trying to kill you.

They are some great Arma 2 mods that do exactly that. If a modder can do it in his spare time, don't tell the dev team can't

I know the Germans used a few double-barreled shotguns with special made explosive rounds... I believe the shell was designed for issue to the Volkssturm in the late stages of the war, I think the shotguns were just whatever they had lying around but I could be wrong.

Can't remember the details... hmm.

You sir are correct, they did use a number of double barrel shotguns at the end of World War 2,however they also used a number of single barreled variants as well, usually very jury rigged and improvised. They did also use "Drillings" for Luftwaffe pilots towards the beginning of the war as survival weapons but they were quite rare.Try looking up the M30 Luftwaffe Shotgun, is one specific example.

As for Military stuff in general, I believe this should be true. In a post soviet state your more like to come across eastern european guns over NATO and western weapons weapons.

There should be some AR variant weapons in Chernarus, since they were in the war before zombie apocalypse. But they should be way more rare than the Eastern weapons.

As here was already mentioned, in Eastern European countries you can more commonly find german ww2 guns. P08, Kar98, also maybe rare MP40 somewhere in the attic. First as good collectible gun. Second as gun for hunters. Soviets sold (and gave for nothing) many Kar98, for different socialist armies, revolutionary insurgents, also for hunters on wolves. Most russian guns was collected and preserved on storage in the depth of the country. Logically, something remained far away from eyes of repressive institutions.

Therefore i suggest P08, Kar98, also rare MP40, Nagant revolver, TT-30, Mosin–Nagant M44 Carbine without bayonet, very rare Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle. That from WW2 era.

Now from the modern era - Glock 9x19(man, it are everywhere), Makarov (though it are now much less frequently visible), AK-74 5.45x39 (some EE countries uses them in army and in prison).

Now what about many western weapons (and also AK-like semi-automatic carbines), you can today bought them in gun stores in many eastern european countries (M1 Garand, semi AR-15, H&K etc).

But due gameplay i would too suggest reduce them availability.
