Of course. Why couldn't you do this? than is, if you get to your body on time before someone else loots it.

Also, (and this is provided that it is even possible) if you are bitten by a zombie and become infected, then I think it would be cool if you'd lose total control over your character, and could eventually come across it in the future in a zombie state (temporarily). That would be some freaky shit.

I think the whole narrative of the game will be that we are immune to the virus, that's why we're survivors. Also Rocket has stated in the past that he doesn't want players running around as zeds because it'll break the immersion for others. Players + infection = epic trolling opportunities. Plus those infected players could still theoretically help their team members, I don't like the idea of that at all.

I mean looting your own body is a real immersion killer and should be fixed somehow before we discuss other aspects of player death...

What would be the difference between looting 'a body' and your old, dead one?

Even if that was implemented you could still ask a friend to loot your old body for you...

I would say the difference is that a) you know exactly where it is and b ) you can get all of your gear back.

With other peoples bodies it's luck of the drawer. Anyway, hopefully the new disease mechanic will go someway to solving this issue because looting any corpse will carry a risk of disease and unless your geared up to deal with that it's a quick route to another painful death.

I know im going to be hated, but really? thats the new devblogupdate? really?

put together in haste with people who do not seem that interested in the game...and few other things the thread already mentioned.

On the top containing not much new information at all and at that point im starting to get angry.

Dont get me wrong i appreciate the work which is done here and i hope for a great game, but where is that "we will have the community help us develope the game" minecraft style thingie?

For what reason ever (WarZ-fail?) youre not having us "that" involved was and is discussed somewhere else but at some point it is just frustrating.

You really had me think when i saw the running and "jumping" over things and rocket said: "we're defenitly not going to show that youre just clipping through it". I mean what is rocket trying to achieve? i think the majority of us could cope with bugging animations if the mechanics behind it works.

What i want to say is that i think they/he gets lost with details at some point which wouldnt really be necessary and just raises my expactations of how good it will be every day the game is not released.

...and then i might end up disappointed

I would buy it like i did arma 3 if it where released as an alpha on steam, no doubt about it.

The biggest issue and complain with arma 3 is the low fps caused by most of the game being handled by 1 thread and 1 core, and never using more than the equivalent of 2 cores overall on any given cpu no matter how many cores you have. just like arma 2 has ever been, so it has nothing to do with being aplha or not. People expected arma 3 to be able to use at least 4 cores since it gets 10fps with 30-50% cpu/gpu usage and i believe thats reasonable. (please dont argue with me on this, if you want to argue about this issue go to the 30+ pages thread on the arma 3 forum or the highly voted bug report on the matter). Im just stating this to show the difference between arma 3 and dayz SA.

BUT, since dayz stand alone changed a lot of stuff and went server side, i doubt stand alone would suffer from the same ia/cpu limitations inherent to the arma 2 engine.

so again, i would love to see stand alone on steam, even as an alpha. why? because i want to play dayz and the mod is fully riddled with scripters/adm griefers and low fps from the same previously stated issue, i played hundreds of hours of it but since it became too popular the amount of hackers rendered it unplayable for me, imho.

anyway, Stand Alone is looking good.

hej really there is no need in getting angry. calm down, lean back. a good idea is just to avoid the news around the game for about a week, play something different, do other things then come back again and things will look different. you'll see.

Hi. The previous devblogs answer all of the questions you have raised (Steam release, hacking, performance, release details ect.). You can view it in full here: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/

i know, but i just needed to tell my opinion and state that my patience has an end although i will buy it whenever it is released <_<

even though if its not before rocket is on holidays i am going to deeply hate him >:( and he cant outweigh it with the quality of the game.

well then he will have to live with this burden of guilt for the rest of his life ;)

maybe you're too much into it at the moment.

It would be cool if we got the infection and had only 2-3 days to find antibiotics (which would be uber rare) before we died. So forcing a bit of friendly co op, "hey dudes i need some meds" etc. Not actual become a zed but be on our way. Also be cool, that if we died our avatar would be an npc zed wandering the wasteland until killed.

(Obviously i've no idea how technically possible that would be)

Well done! Enjoyed the catch up!

You can still see Zombies follow the leader even with the update. looks more complex than just plotting a stright line avoiding stuff would be. Although it works well while running just looks a bit daft when you are ahead and you turn round to see it follow your path and actually going away from you to come back. Be interesting how a group looks.

If the nail the Zombie feel to bring it from mere pest to fear on contact they have a winner. On the streams I've watched the only things Zombies did was give away that a person was there.

After watching ARMA III wasteland Ihave no fear this game will have a totally different feel and style of play when it comes out in the summer.

I still hope they do something about the lighting and color. It is way too dark an blueish ! Some people say it's just because of some clouds or the time, but in every video it looks the same.

Someone posted some screenshots how it should actually look ..

also the sun glare seems to be way too much, just like in the mod if we look at some old screenshots. Also the change of light / color in the current mod is just ridiculous. If you change your field of view the glare / lightning changes completely .. everything is colorfull if you look to the ground and if you look just a little bit more straight ahead / up it's getting darker. These changes are way too extrem and just unrealistic. especially as they also occur indoors ...

So please Dev-Team, do something about the colors / light / glare .... because in the game you experience these changes in lighting / glare very strongly but in realy life you don't even notice it that much. So it realy is just annoying.

Look how bright the desk and the lamp look / reflect the light:

zombie-mmo-games-dayz-standalone-sun-room-screenshot.png

signed!

i really LOVE where the developement is going, but please take a look at that if you find the time!

Also:

Please not SO MUCH blood everywhere in the interiors!

blood only looks like that red if it is really fresh, after some time it just becomes brown and weathered.

so when everywhere is blood, it just looks like in some generic 08/15 horror movie/game.

anyways:

BIG THANKS FOR WORKING ON THE BEST GAME DEVELOPEMENT EVER TO HAPPEN!

  • keep going YOUR way, amigo!

+1

A serious question: why can't they make the zombies directly follow the player in the mod? Is the engine preventing that, because I think ive heard that all the zombies are juat enemy ai designed to attack you straight on rather than find cover.

Okay here are a few things to settle down.

Stop whining

and

Stop demanding

You are not entitled to anything

You are do not "deserve" anything

Rocket is doing his best to make a good game. He sacrifices almost all his free time in dedication to you, trying his best.

We already made our contribution with our opinion and advices and Rocket noted it down. I wanted to especially thank dayz reddit for immense contribution (much more that the forums ever did), the best suggestions for the weapon and GUI as well as for dogs, finger prints and other came from there and Rocket will implement them.

What can you do?

For starters stop saying things like "I won't buy SA now" or "I got bored of Dayz" because nobody cares and you do not contribute to the discussion.

Don't rush the development, it's done when it's done. I'd rather wait a year and get a polished well-designed game then get Warz 2 now.

@Cheese: Don't try and incite another us vs them flame war regarding Reddit. Many members here post on both forums and we're all part of the DayZ community.

Regarding your other points, for the most part I agree.

@JS REX:

Yeah, AFAIK Zeds in the mod use Arma2 soldier AI, so they're always trying to dodge your fire serpentine style while they get close enough to hit you.

It kind of makes sense if you think of a zed "hit" as a short-range gun.

I couldn't tell you whether that AI was used because the AI "can't" be changed, or it was just too much hassle to be worth changing.

I'm just glad they're getting better for SA. :D

EDIT:

@Cheese

Nobody here should have anything bad to say about Reddit, and vice-versa.

If you don't like the banter, you're not forced to stay here.

PS: Of all those "best suggestions" I guarantee you none of them came from you.

If your only claim to fame is trying to ride someones coat-tails, you're in no position to presume superiority over anyone.

Expanding health system

Health is extending far beyond just blood, into a system that incorporates health, blood, and consciousness level. How these are all interrelating will be touched on in its own devblog in future. Some of the exciting developments coming include longterm play effects such as poor diet affecting your long term health levels. All this translates into the importance of a longterm plan for survival of your character, and we’re sure the role of medical specialists will become very important - hopefully emphasizing social interaction opportunities.

That is some kind of a sick joke? With all the PVP in this ....game who will ever live long enough to think about long term health??

You can avoid PVP and the hope is with all of the new content, mechanics ect there'll be more reason to avoid pvp all together. It's always going to be an important part of the game but many peopl just PVP at the moment because they've exhausted everything else the mod has to offer.

Until PVP is somehow nerfed, all of Rockets survival plans will be for not.

you kill of pvp im sorry to say youll lose most of the people who play this.

some will say wtf are you on about but the masses play for pvp taking away this would hit the player numbers hard. you only have to look at what the biggest selling games are they are pvp.

i do agree that other things need implementing better but killing off pvp is not the answer.
