It's not funny anymore, and to be honest this mantra is very unprofessional.. Surely he does not reply like this to his BiS managers, so why do the fans (actually customers, Im pretty sure almost everyone here bought Arma2) have to suffer it? :(

Ummm... some of the best games of all time were created with this mantra as it ensured quality and thus success. In fact it was only since 2008 that we've had these terribly quick release dates of cookie cutter sequels as a result of the financial collapse. Companies are trying to pump out revenue (games) as fast as possible, sacrificing quality.

IMO they should take as long as they need and make the next big game instead of a poorly executed neat idea - hence why the Dev. process has changed so dramatically.

And some of the games followed the mantra for years, ending up being cancelled or producing only mediocre results, see Duke Nukem Forever. So its no indication of eventual success. There is a reason why we have deadlines even in creative professions, in fact people who follow the "its done when it's done" method rarely actually get anything done.

Just because we are not aware of them do not assume the dev team don't have internal deadlines. They have nothing to gain by making those deadlines public. And so.... we wait....

Big difference is, that Duke Nukem already had games out, but made the huge goal to create "the perfect game" that's going to be played for decades.

Standalone has the defined goal, not to be perfect when it comes out.

It's not good to waste years of development. it's also not good to throw away vital content for the sake of a release-date. The optimal way is somewhere in the middle.

But in general 2 years of development are not a big thing in the industry and Standalone isn't even a year old, so if you want to start complaining about it taking so extremely long, start Summer 2014.

All post 2008-- plus that's a turd in the punch bowl argument or one wrong makes all the rights, wrong too. Bit of a logical fallacy. Approximate deadlines are good, but strict ones - like if given say 2-3 months a product can be fleshed out an finished rather than rushed out the door buggy and unpolished like we're seeing more and more. (Mass effect 3, I'm looking at you)

Actually, so far SA development fits into the DNF saga perfectly. Just ad DNF release was repeatedly postponed as 3DRealms devs kept switching to new 3D engines we have seen SA postponed when originally quite humble and realistic goals were redefined to include a new game engine and much more ambitious targets.

I'm not really obsessed about SA release, just mildly amused about Rocket's poor communication skills and BiS failure to engage the community given Mods unique history with word-of-mouth crowd marketing. Hundreds of thousands of Arma2 copies were sold with no formal involvement from Bohemia and at the time when progressive marketing techniques are becoming more about reaching out to gamers through social media we observe SA having almost no digital footprint, yet alone regular forum/blog/twitter updates. Instead they choose to spend resources on going to expensive old-fashioned gaming shows.

I'm not quite sure what the point of your posts is other than whinning "The game is going to suck wah wah ;_;". I believe in Rocket and his team that they have their own little deadlines. So if you have doubt and just say that the way they develop the game is the wrong way, well it's rockets choice it's his project and complaining about a game you never played and there is little to no real information/footage other than 2 dev vlogs is just cheap. Grow up. If you so sure the game will suck than just don't wait for it, because this game doesn't need the "support" of people like you.

I'm starting to think it's Sergey Titov in drag.

Have you guys ever wondered why they named it "Duke Nukem FOREVER"? :) (cuz it took forever to develop it)

DayZ SA is being developed for a few months =/= DNF which was developed forever... :D

All these changes look really sweet.

2 comments;

1) God DAMN it is going to truly suck to get killed on sight again.

2) I hope switching weapons is faster, or at least can be done on the run.

This... not the fault of Day Z... but holy hell... rooting to the ground to change to your secondary is annoying as hell.

That, and I hope they somehow make it easier to rapidly rotate around, backpedal, and engage zombies behind you. There's not anything specific that's wrong with it that I can tell, but it doesn't work like it would in the real world. That and I think if they ported ARMA 3's aiming system vice ARMA 2's to SA, it'd help a bit more... plus, if they'd tone down the ridiculous amount of delay/sway one gets after running, I'd like that.

There are a lot of annoying "out of control" things about ARMA 2 character behavior that annoy me, like occasionally getting put into a "trot rapidly to the left or right as if dodging something" animation that is uninteruptable.

Don't expect an up date today, If we do get one, you are lucky indeed.

If rocket is at that PAX thingamy thing bob, then understandably he is busy, Perhaps we can see the stream somewhere?

Deal with it, I will be dealing with it badly.

So basically, we're gonna have two months of dead air now while Rocket goes for a walk up a hill, then in June they'll be seeing where they are when he returns?

These forums are gonna be dead with no updates for that long.

Oh well, hopefully Arma 3 gets some nice juicy updates in the mean time to keep us going.

Wow that's super disappointing

I said so weeks ago, because it's quite apparent from the current state of the game they have only started work on many critical features and some are only in planning stage. My next prediction - I'd be surprised to see anything widely open to the general public before the Christmas holiday season.
