Grumpy (DayZ)

Please don't put defecating in the standalone

Recommended Posts

'Cause ppl go out and shit everywhere and in the graveyard and then? then media will point at the gaming industry and how badly it affects us normal beings!!

has it been confirmed that it will be a player forced anim...I don't think it will be...that's why I don't understand the drama..it will be just a simple anim simulating a cramp as a part of the new disease system, I think this is pretty cool since it could even happen to you during a fight or whatever...

It would however, affect the sales in the U.S regardless. Also it would bring negative attention to the game, which DayZ does NOT need.

It doesn't matter. Dayz is special because it doesn't play like a mainstream game, let it stay that way.

If the developers start basing their decisions on what US media thinks about this or that, then we won't have nice things anymore.

I also think US sales account for a lot less than EU/AU/Asia. Not that this should affect gameplay decisions either.

well no i think you got me wrong on this one... i meant no matter if there is good or bad news about the game...in the end it all adds to good publicity.

I think the major fuss is because ppl feel there are hundreds of very well thought out ideas within the suggestions and there is now a huge possibility that exactly pooping will be "wasted time on".

Honestly? Everything thats gonna make me laugh AND has vital implementation into one of the games' core mechanic - 'infection', is a go!

Yup. Only the Americans are capable of actually take fox news seriously and that's only the simplest individuals of them. Those are not really the target demographic for this game anyhow

I could honestly care less about the overall player base, IMHO the game needs to be rid of the CoD kiddies. What I'm mainly looking at, is the fact that DayZ players shouldn't have to deal with more negative critisim. I'm not bitching here, because I could care less. But, we deal enough with the WarShit fanboys, we don't need bullSHIT attention from the rest of the gaming community. Imagine someone like... oh... Fox news doing a story on DayZ and how it's gross. 100,000 10-15 year old, horrible, think they can game kids see that. 50% of those kids buy the SA. Woohoo, 50,000 new trolls that don't understand the real concept of the game. Maybe I'm coming about this the wrong way, but hey, it's just the way I look at it.

It really is a shame you can give 1 person only 1 can of beans at a time.

I just hope the representation of it will be similar to the way bleeding was portrayaled in the mod.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not going to rage quit the game because it involves ew, pooping. Seriously, I work in a medical field. I've had to change diapers on paralyzed people before, it doesn't really freak me out. From a realism standpoint, I definitely understand the point.

Like I said, in situations where society has broken down in real life, cholera specifically and being careful where people defecate has been a serious problem. Hell, I was at a weekend airsoft match once where a whole group of "special forces operators" got serious cases of the runs because they didn't clean their mess kits (though that was probably something less awful than cholera.) I really do like the disease spreading aspect of that, and it adds an extra degree of realism and tension to the game. Sure, you're thirsty, but is that water clean?

However, like someone else said earlier, I don't think many gamers are really ready for this kind of mechanic. That's not a statement on OMG the children, they'll be corrupted! Immature players (regardless of age) of course already know everyone poops, that's kind of the problem. The issue is that, much like the "penis factor" it's only a matter of time until someone starts abusing it. All it would take would be a couple of youtube videos, before DayZ gets known as "That game where you can knock someone out and then poop on their immobile body while they watch, and the game won't even let you quit to avoid it!"

A lot of people take that kind of thing seriously. It could generate a lot of negative press. Maybe some people will join because of reverse intent, but a lot of people will join specifically to troll. While I don't think it'd kill the game, keep in mind, Day Z is not some huge game like COD that can just shrug off criticism and keep chugging. While downloads of the mod have been seriously impressive, a major hit to sales or publicity at this point could do a lot of damage to the mod.

I really love DayZ, and I love the direction the devs are taking it. A game that doesn't even pretend that you're special, and doesn't pull a single punch... it's really kind of refreshing when every single game out their leads you by the hand while telling you how much you're the uber special chosen one. I very, very much want this game to succeed. Hell, I think it could change the tone of gaming development for the better.

Anyway, TL;DR, I think by changing the transmittable disease symptom to vomiting, you could save a lot of potential trouble without limiting the scope of the game.

I don't think anyone would play for very long if they didn't like the gameplay, DayZ is a bit of a 'Marmite game'. It would just mean a lot more money for the devs and maybe a minor passing inconvenience.

As for what the 'gaming community' would think... Why should we care?

Don't make this into a regional thing and send negative vibes towards us Americans. Why do you have to make it a demographic thing? I don't take FOX news seriously, and many don't. I'm just stating a fact. They manipulate everything they report, and it'll attract attention. Not saying it would necessarily be bad attention.

I personally am not a fan of the pooping idea and wish they would focus on other aspects of the game before they really try to get this right. I did like the idea that maybe you only take a shit when an infection has set in on character.

An example with some questions as well. So lets say I approach a lake to get some water. Do I just fill up my bottle and boil it or is that lake tainted for a certain amount of time? If so couldn't I just log until server restart. Or do I need to find some gloves and a stick and actually pick up others shit piles? Either way it's not exactly what I want to do in the SA.

We shouldn't have to care. I don't.

Truthfully honest, I'd rather have the game be seen as the amazing SA version of the Mod that got nearly universally positive reviews, than have it looked down upon as a failure. That is up to the devs though, but I love this game as much as anyone, and enjoy the hell out of playing it.

So if it's going to be just harmless, simple animation of how people shit, let me take it to another level altogether. I want fucking realism 24/7 all that comes with it.

#1 If I injure somebody or find somebody sick / harmless I want the option to do them from behind. That's right, IIRL humans have adult needs just and I want it in game.

#2 lmfao at some dudes here almost insisting that shitting should made it in - anyways, I want dentist simulation in game. I mean we all get some occasional teeth trouble don't we.

#3 I want car tire wear, knife / hatchet sharpening tool, and I want the game make me more knowledgeable by reading books aka, how to be a doctor in 20 minutes

It isn't.

It's going to be part of an infection mechanic that'll be an important aspect of gameplay.

It isn't 'shitting for shitting's sake', or 'realism for realism's sake'.

It's not about shit, it's about infection and how to deal with it.

Thanks for the tl;dr, and imo its just as bad, if people want to pick on the game they're still gonna do it, its just going to be for vomiting, not pooping.

I agree WIcked, and in a serious way as well. you do have a point.

There are a million and one things that could be added before pooping, that would make the game much cooler and more realistic. Honestly, how much joy can one get by letting loose a deuce in a game?

EDIT: Now that I tihnk about it, there are some weird ass people out there. lol

I see pooping more as a diagnostic mechanic, like vomiting.

I really don't need a option to shit in my action menu every 15 minutes.

It'd have less potential for abuse. You wouldn't be able to do it on command, and it only happens while you're sick for a legitimate reason. If you're going to not force people to poop normally, why not make it vomiting instead? it makes more sense than getting sick and suddenly having to poop. With vomiting, the player would have less leeway for abuse.

Unless you add bulimia to the game, I guess.
