I would like to see more "signs" of the zombie apocalypse.

Recommended Posts

First off, I did a quick search, did not find a topic matching this description. If I missed it, please merge this topic with the fitting one.

Second, I am from Norway, English is not my native language, so please excuse any weird sentence structure, or grammatical errors.

The way I see it:

I would like to see more signs of the zombie apocalypse, and by that I mean,-

- Police cars abandoned in the streets, shotgun spawn inside.

- Other rescue vehicles left at the scene.

- Hospitals overrun, lots of corpses, extra medical tents and so on.

- More corpses in cars, apartments etc.

- Less clutter in the roads(road blocks), more abandoned vehicles.

- Some areas still have power/limited power.

- Hoards roaming through the map, players will have to fight or flight.

- Some houses should look like someone tried to barricade them.

- Some signs on houses saying "survivors inside" etc. Like in 28 days/weeks later.

I know that a lot of this is not possible in the mod, and the devs have probably thought about some of the things I have said. But I needed to get it out there anyway.

I also understand that a lot of the stuff I mention, the devs want to be "player made". For example a crashed car in a city, with the players corps inside. But I still feel we need a bit more.

What are your thoughts on this matter? Any suggestions? I would also greatly appreciate if one of the devs took the time to respond :)

Kindest regards Hauger.

Whilst I strongly agree with you, I think you have to look at what's possible and what's not.

The level of ambience we desire with a post-zombie-apocalypse map will require, as you've listed, a lot of extra items and objects to be implemented into the map or into the actual game script. I'm no wise-ass when it comes to development, but I can just imagine that such an extensive and immersive ambience would require a very significant amount of work, with optimization to ensure it doesn't effect the performance of the game.

Work has been done to create a more detailed environment though - interiors have been redesigned to include eerie qualities, like discoloration and old blood splatters. The screenshot of the crashed helicopter/plane (can't remember which) in a street also gives me hope that Chernarus will be stepped up massively to fit into the context of DayZ.

I do think some of your points would be more easy to implement into the game code though. The hoardes of zombies walking randomly across the map, and some functioning/unfunctioning street lights, etc.

(also, your English is pretty good man!)

It was a plane crashed into the chernogorsk hotel.

Taviana 3.0 has Introduced zombie apocalyptic devastation across the world in the change log :)

The citizens of Taviana did not throw all their washing machines into the streets.

That said, the military has set up several attempted control points, and some private citizens have made attempts at fortifying their towns against the undead.

Come on Hicks and show us the files :D

I'd like to see that as well. I couldn't agree more. Rocket did mention that there will be diaries left behind to give out more of a story of what happened which is as close as we can get from this.

What I'd like to see is..

  • Evidence of bullet impacts around areas to reveal that 'humans' were once around the area to defend themselves.
  • More car pile-ups to conclude that traffic congestion wasn't good enough to evade the zombie horde.
  • Furniture and items tossed aside in an unorganized manner, giving the vibe that zombies did what they could to get to people for consumption.

Yes, I like your ideas as well. The world as it is, is just to tidy. Less of the civil was barricades, and more realistic stuff. Also hope to see more cars that are abandoned, some wrecks, but not all blown up. The way it is now. it looks like all the vehicles just blew up at first sight of the infection.

I can understand the mod being so bare bones since Cherno before the mod was inhabited and functioning. What Chernarus+ will have will hopefully be a bit more ambiance, but I don't think some of your list will make it on, only due to computing capabilities.

This has bugged me since I've seen this photo, I'm being nit-picky but, where's the rest of the plane?

To be fair, what you see now is an alpha build of Day Z, relying almost entirely on the vanilla Chernarus map. Every object you see in the game has come from the database present in the single player map editor. Obviously the dev team spent time working on the base concepts, as in zombie AI, food/drink/infection systems, and stuff like that before they pretty/ugly up the map. Don't worry, buddy, SA will look more like what you described.

Why would you have signs saying 'survivors inside' wouldn't there be bandits in the zombie apocolypse world also who would have the time to make a sign saying that when there is zombies about. ;)

Sign making is in my blood. Zombies will think they have the upper hand when BAM. Everyone in the vicinity sees my sign.

+1 for adding signs

- Police cars abandoned in the streets, shotgun spawn inside.

Yes!

- Other rescue vehicles left at the scene.

Yes!

- Hospitals overrun, lots of corpses, extra medical tents and so on.

There is evidence of this currently, look better at the Cherno East Hospital, they set up medical tents accross the street next to a factory as well as looks like the military tried to protect the hospital itself with barbwire. Berezino's hospital looks the worse off, I'm guessing it was the last stand for Chenarus' Military.

- More corpses in cars, apartments etc.

Yes

- Less clutter in the roads(road blocks), more abandoned vehicles.

How would this be a sign of the zombie apoc? People were panicking and try to get somewhere 'safe'. People are shitty drivers under the best conditions, now add OMG ZOMBIES FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK! and there's gonna be a lot more accidents. People would try and hunker down and defend against something, maybe set up roadblocks to keep people infected from going into their village or to try and stop the zombies with the blockades.

- Some areas still have power/limited power.

Rocket has pretty much said no to this, any power generation would have broken down or 'tripped' to use his words without people to keep it up and running. Even a hydro electric dam needs to be maintained, power surges happen which need to be dealt with and repaired, not to mention shit just breaking down without routine maintenance and the power infrastructural itself going tits up. When we play we are Months to Years after the infection started and we don't fully know what transpired during the outbreak (might have been EMP blast or something, a power surge caused during the outbreak might have destroyed/knocked out the entire grid, ect.

- Hoards roaming through the map, players will have to fight or flight.

I'm all for this

- Some houses should look like someone tried to barricade them.

Pretty sure it's gonna happen.

- Some signs on houses saying "survivors inside" etc. Like in 28 days/weeks later.'

Помогите! Из водки! is more likely, forgive the joke. Seriously though Выжившие внутри! and other signs in Cyrillic.

Theres little 'scenes' all around that kinda tell the story while still leaving you wonder 'what the fuck happened?'

i don't start another thread so i just throww it in here:

PROPS of any kind!

atmospheric sceneries (which are just reappearing singularities)

- in general more scenes of despair

() hung people in houses or on trees.

() dead bodies strapped to heavy objects

() a dead couple in their car in their garage ;)

() children would be possible to include here, as they "would just serve as props" (wow that sounds actually horrible :()

- random burial sites on clearings or in woods. (signs of humanity)

- several bus stops on the roads. (ppl travel a lot in some of "these" countries by bus)

- scarecrows

- rotting wildlife/bodies spawning and eventually fading out

- partially destroyed power lines.
