HERBERT-THETREE 44 Posted February 18, 2013 I'm genuinely not trolling or looking for a reaction - I really am honestly interested in what your reasoning behind re-adding peripheral dots is (beyond making it easier to see things you would normally miss), as I can't think of one myself. That's all I want from you. :)This^Also, any one who disagrees with you or argues with you is a "tard"good to know

Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted February 18, 2013 No, I'm afraid your original post isn't clear enough to answer the specific question I asked you. However, I don't mind asking it one more time, as I'm sure you have an answer for me that will clear this up:What specific reason (other than to make the game easier) did you have for wanting peripheral dots re-enabled?That's all I'm asking you - I don't think it's an unreasonable question, and seeing that you have masses of experience in DayZ, I'm sure that your reasons are well-thought-out and perfectly valid. I'm simply interested in knowing what they are so that I might consider them myself and make an informed decision based on all available evidence. :)
-Gews- 7443 Posted February 18, 2013 Adding to my previous post...Removing the dots may make players harder to spot, but that works both ways. It's not a disadvantage to anyone if it is a disadvantage to everyone, right? Also, removing it could make things like ATVs or tents easier to hide from other players who wouldn't have spotted them without a dot. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted February 18, 2013 I thought you couldn't see players with dots before they removed them? Unless they were in a vehicle.

Heiduk 265 Posted February 18, 2013 I only play merc servers too, so I'll repeat it as well.Either you see something or you don't.
colekern 1364 Posted February 18, 2013 Ahh, so you play merc mode, no 3rd person no tags no map markers ? BSListen buddy. Stop pretending you're better than us. Honestly, I've looked through this whole thread, and you've done nothing but talk down to us, pretending we're moronic idiots who don't have a clue about what we're talking about. Get off your high horse and have a real debate with us. You haven't made a single valid point. Every time someone disagrees with you, all he gets is an insult. You called the people who disagreed with you retards. Stop acting like a kid, and present some real, hard evidence. If my original post is not clear enough then sorry, but I'm already tired of this.Guess what, buddy? I'm tired of your bullcrap attitude. IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted February 18, 2013 Well if thats the case then I'm definitely all for having dots permenatly removed now. I thought it was just a pain in the ass when it was just vehicles that you could see, seeing a player's dot while going 200mph in a huey is just totally unfair. enforcer1975 1111 Posted February 18, 2013 Peripheral dots take away from the realism, if someone is hiding in a bush your not likely to see them especially just at a passing glance. Peripheral dots make it so that you can see them, Basicly the game engine is telling you theres someone or something over there regarless of whether YOU can see it.-They are trying to make it as real as possible, some people like it some dont. The engine only shows objects the that would be in the users natural fov but you shouldn't be helped because you are too blind to see or just plain lazy to look around and scan your area carefully. A lot of players ran past me and i didn't even have camo on, i even stalked a player who might have detected my presence due to said dot but i hid faster than he could turn so in the end if you just look around arcade style the dots won't help you at all. maui.arupa@gmail.com 16 Posted February 18, 2013 To OP: I don't blame you willing to get what you want, but I believe you mistaken the direction DayZ is taking, here's a quote to remind you of it:"DayZ was designed to be impossibly cruel, dark, and brutal. It was not designed as a game it was more of an experiment, I prefer the term "anti-game" -Rocket

Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted February 18, 2013 Its quite obvious i'm waisting my time here, nothing more to say.No.You are not squirming out of answering my question under the pretence that you're some kind of enlightened being who's trying to pass on his infinite knowledge and wisdom to a bunch of troglodytes who simply can't grasp the mere concept of what he's trying to say.I have been MORE than polite with you throughout this thread, and I have given you every chance to explain your reasoning without once being rude or aggressive, but I've had enough of your wriggling. Answer my damn question, man:Apart from to make the game easier, what is your reasoning behind wanting to re-add peripheral dots?If you're having trouble understanding the question, I can probably find another way of re-phrasing it, but in all honesty, I'm pretty sure that you simply realise that you've been backed into a corner and that you don't actually have an answer. The way I see it, you have a few options here. You can either:1) Answer my question with a sensible, logical response (which is all I've wanted from you), and we can discuss this like mature, adult human beings.2) Put your e-peen away and admit that you didn't really think the suggestion through and that maybe you were wrong.3) Ignore this post/continue to try and give the impression that you're somehow above answering questions from us mere mortals and that we couldn't possibly comprehend what you're thinking anyway. Two of these options are perfectly fine responses, and you'll have my (and presumably most of the folks reading this) respect, and assuming a satisfactory conclusion is reached, we can just let this whole thing pass under the bridge and get on with other stuff. The other option will show you up as a blowhard who likes to talk the talk, but when push comes to shove can't actually back up any of his arguments.Ball's in your court, buddy.
willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk 506 Posted February 18, 2013 Its quite obvious i'm waisting my time here, nothing more to say. You're being incredibly rude. It's a simple question that you have failed to answer apart from saying that 'it makez the geam funner, hurr durr'.If you don't like your current FoV, you can change it. I'm not ashamed to say mine is at 90, it improves vision a lot.

Peavey90 0 Posted February 19, 2013 For me peripheral dots are just a rapresentation of the earing of the player...Very often i am not able to understand from speakers or headsets where a noise is coming from (eg. a zed snorking)...instead in real world if a sound is eard we immediately are able to say where it comes from...it s not so easy if the sound comes from the speakers...It just give us infos about the source (direction and distance aproximatively) of the noises that zeds or animals make...in my opinion... enforcer1975 1111 Posted February 19, 2013 And how could you possible hear something that isn't even moving like a tent or vehicle beeing hidden next to a tree? The dots are kind of an excuse from BIS because they don't know that you can increase your fov manually.
Gooober 34 Posted February 19, 2013 Dots are gone..... YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH :D :D :D :D :D :D ;)
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted February 19, 2013 It's not that it's realistic.. it's that it's authentic... a Milsim like Arma needs it because we don't have the FOV of IRL... even with the FOV cranks up we are still on a downward slope.I agree removing them is silly, but keeping them as they are is just as silly. They need to be more inaccuract and harder to see... Plus they should all be white/clear and not red or green.
monkie 30 Posted February 19, 2013 Answer my damn question, man:Ball's in your court, buddy.its not my court, nor my ball, but a reasonable answer to the question seems to be this:From the manual:"The Peripheral Vision Indicators...are a simulation of real world peripheral awareness, which is restricted by the constraints of a computer monitor..."a simulation of real world peripheral awareness which is restricted by technology..so while not perfect the dots are in arma for a good reason.
shadowjack 254 Posted February 19, 2013 Wow ... so yall are telling me those somewhat annoying dots are a feature? Does the size of the dots indicate proximity? Wait ...dont answer that, i don't need another "feature" to get addicted to. Its been tough enough staying away from 3rd person.
