Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted February 19, 2013 its not my court, nor my ball, but a reasonable answer to the question seems to be this:a simulation of real world peripheral awareness which is restricted by technology..so while not perfect the dots are in arma for a good reason.Problem is, in all honesty, it's not even close to a fair or accurate simulation thereof - on servers where it's still enabled, I can be running at full sprint, only to catch sight of a large grey dot on the right of my screen - I'll turn and look, and after much searching, I'll spot a 'monkey' zombie just loping around about 200m away. It's allowing me to see things I would have otherwise never have seen if they'd been directly in front of me, let alone on the periphery of my vision. However, I appreciate your stepping up and providing at least some kind of justification for the feature - if only OP had done the same rather than just claiming he was 'done' and 'wasting his time'. :)

monkie 30 Posted February 21, 2013 How come games that are made for pvp don't have them? Of course you can increase the fov up to 85° in CoD if i remember right but you can also increase it in ArmA...im not a developer of pvp games so maybe im not the right person to ask that question? :Pi assume you have played other pvp games in the past?most dont claim to be mil-sims, most are played on tiny maps, some have mini-maps that show a lot of information.all i know is that the developers of arma chose this method for a reason as they stated in the manual.please note that i havent personally defended the need for peripheral dots up to now, i can understand/see that sometimes they are too obvious, but i also think that they are there for a reason and taking them out should not be done lightly.
