Suggestion/Feature/Idea Poll

Recommended Posts

Awesome idea to let the community to decide what got higher priorities in standalone. So many good ideas so the own top 5 was hard to decide.

A "shout" channel

Animations that deal with status effects, vomiting, sneezing etc.

Batteries for all electrical items

Less ammo and less powerful guns

Players can throw items while walking/running

Going into a bit of detail here. This game to me is about survival... Yeah, this would seem to be a no brainer here, but quite a few have gotten this all wrong imho. In a survival situation, you have primary/secondary goals. Unfortunately to many PvP hounds keep turning this game into a deathmatch. I don't give a shit what all of the CoD and BF players think of how they want to play DayZ. Some of the headline selling points of this genre are "to survive" in an apocalyptic situation. Its a sandbox, so those of you that want to play as if you have infinite lives, and zero consequence to dying/restarting rinse and repeat, then by all means. But for those of us that want to role play the shit out of the SA, then certain aspects of real survival are critical. This discussion, in regards to the role playing aspect, is what has made me take certain choices within this poll. Seriously, don't respond to my comment if your interested in deathmatch. Im not telling the PvP players not to play, im simply explaining why the role playing crowd should consider their choices based on the needs of survival.

1) Getting your primary survival goals accomplished asap are, Food, Water and shelter.

2) A way to maintain your permanent survival requires a way to build and maintain stores of supplies.

This seems to upset a specific type of player. I.E. We should get rid of tents, storing gear is bullshit, why should we have locking doors, or a way to bury gear??? Well for the survivalist role players, we need ways to store gear, to keep it safe for future reloads. Because its what your taught in survival situations...thats why "we" need this type of mechanic in game.

My vote was (and I wanted 10 choices, not 5 :( ).

1) Camo netting (Not just for cars bases, but for tents as well)

2) Bury items gear

3) Lockable doors (hopefully this would include vehicles)

4) Tandem bike (Because its bad ass :D )

5) Fishing for food (Simple, its another survival need)

I know their are people that don't agree with my reasoning with this, but I have spent months at a time in the Cascade Mountain range, behind my home in Oregon, and survival is not Bear Grylls, that guy would get your ass killed in hours. Its about basic needs, and with out safe storage, it makes it unrealistic to me. Fingers crossed... reading all the choices made me drool a bit B)

general question:

what i'd like to know, what kind of things would be implemented almost immediately (counting in days, or maybe a week, as mentioned by Horde). There are many bright ideas of all sorts. But some seem to be only implementable under heavy efforts, meaning simply not doable under several weeks or even months of work.

Would be nice if there would be sort of an ever growing summary, of generally speaking things that would not need much time to do and so maybe let ppl like me focus their ideas on "short-term" implementations ;). I imagine it as some sort of open minded suggestion of all kind of ideas.

:D i really don't know if i'm able to convey my idea here haha...

What i mean are things like these already mentioned things like e.g.

- Increased range for sound so gunshots can be heard farther away. (config entry). as mentioned by Horde

- backpacks make a sound.(as mentioned in the poll)

- "ugly" grass textures as minimum option to stay hidden from wide range attacks

- toning up/down night

I just think there a very creative and superb ideas, but some just very difficult to implement and as SA alpha/beta is approaching in a fast pace i just thought it would be better to think, right now, on a "short-term". wel of course this is just my opinion, but maybe there are a few that maybe will think the same way...

edit: well as i read this post..it feels odd to me...odd indeed..

I thought I would stop by and add my $0.02. I am the guy who created both of the recent polls. I decided to limit the number of votes to make the voters really think hard about what they would like in the game over the next 12 months. The ideas in the list are the same ideas from the original poll and were made up of all the different ideas threads on reddit.

We are currently sitting at 2427 responses and it is still going up since Rocket tweeted it.

Personally, I didn't vote for anything that was already confirmed as in development..

Keep your eye out for the results in the near future.

Cheers

I agree completely. When it comes down to a survival standpoint, its also a matter of risk vs reward. My clan typically takes the path of complete avoidance when we come across another player, second is flee to a rendezvous point, final is defend/fight if its 1. near our base and we're defending our stores, or 2. there is no other option out.

However, the PVP only people do make the game more interesting. They are the reason we need camo nets, more forms of storage, and more means to prevent other players from getting to our gear.

Wow... hard choice.

I don't think this is quite fair though, I'd like to see customisable vehicles, but since it's confirmed why would I vote for it? Rocket should bare this in mind.

Good idea though, but next time perhaps a few less options. :)

Damn, this was hard.

I was able to make my five choices, but here is a list of the 5 things on the survey I would least like to see in the standalone.

-Spectator mode (WAY too easy to abuse)

-Trading system (No need for this, it would just be artificial and restrictive, when we can already trade things without one)

-Flippable Vehicles (Unless it is the bike, or MAYBE the ATV)

-Tranquilizer rifle(I'd prefer a different method of knockouts, these would be very dangerous to use against humans in real life)

-Elektro power station (Seems way too unlikely, wouldn't that kind of building rely on a huge infrastructure? Not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong)

and an honourable mention to the scopes/binoculars reflections (unless it's VERY subtle, only at the PERFERCT angle, and only with low-end scopes and binocs that don't have anything to act against glare)

Also, I would only want to see the armbands if you actually had to find a suitable piece of fabric, and the means to customize it.

Everything else, hell yes.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the 'ammo less rare' thing would be cool, but 'guns less powerful'? A makarov already takes 10 shots to kill, there should be quite a few more places that are an instant/quick kill, and many more that are very likely a mortal wound. However, 10 shots to the foot, or something similar, should not kill, unless it is by bleeding out.

My brain imploded from all of the choices available, however taking into account the stuff that the devs have already confirmed for SA (dog companions, crafting, vehicle customization, etc.) I just went for what I have been craving for.

A) Persistent scars. This just sounds amazing, and really brings into light the concept of a "battle scar." Scars could look different depending on the weapon used, and they could also function as a trophy or sign that you have won a battle before.(e.g. I took a revolver to the head and lived, and I've got this big ass hole in my skull to prove it! ;) )

B ) Vomiting, coughing, etc. as physical signs of sickness sounds awesome as well. Maybe you could add in slowly paling skin or popping of veins as well? Something akin to "Amy" (disregarding how bad of a game that was of course :P).

C) Character customization for obvious reasons. I thought this should include clan or group signs as well since that is a part of your clothing and therefore should be included with this.

D) The ability to post notes or bounties for other players. One of the only features in the WarZ that actually sounded cool when I first read about it. Just make it less of a failure, please?

E) The ability to tame and take care of wild horses as a form of transportation. They could also have some kind of bond with the player that means that if some other player finds a horse that's been with someone else for a couple of months, it will be very hard to tame.

Gah! Can you give us the top 5 at least?

I'll post the results tomorrow. I just want to give it one more night to get responses. So far we have had 3888 people take the poll. Rocket tweeted the link and it has been steadily going up.

Interesting, I hope this results in something as you said with Rocket following this. Also... It's really difficult choosing!

Agreed, i wish i had 100 choices

I agree with the need for PvP. I re-read my post and realised I made it sound as if I didnt like PvP at all. Thats not the case, I just didnt want the primary votes to be PvP geared. I think the player vs player aspect is a side mechanic of a survival game. But its main purpose is a "Survival" game.
