First Kill

Recommended Posts

After having a twenty hour character destroyed by over zealous admins on a server I had been frequenting for quite some time, I decided to try a new server for the first time in over a month.

The new server was great. I found a DMR at a heli crash ten minutes into my play through. I died and ran for half an hour back to the location of my body and heard only buzzing flies, so an admin helped me retrieve my gear after checking data logs. The admins seemed to let the game unfold naturally, help when legit bugs were found, and refrained from policing the action. It was going great! Though someone named Robert did type early on as I ran inland from the coast. "It is mostly friendly here, but don't let your guard down. Bandits sometimes play on this server." These words set the tone of my play through and I was edgy the entire night.

I was running around farming the North East air field and trying to cobble a jeep together when I heard shots coming from Krasnostav. I ran to the tree line to scope the runway with my DMR (first time I've had a sniper rifle in game).

I watched a player ride in on an ATV, other players started typing in side chat, they mentioned Balota, I'm new, I got confused and thought I was at Balota. I thought I saw another player. There was a little bird on the runway, two jeeps, tons of ammo, I had the airfield to myself man. Now these guys are gonna kill me or I can run and hide. The admins of the old server I played on killed anyone that got near the north east. I know north west is the most common hot spot but the north east is superior in a lot of ways.

The player I was watching shot a cow in between the runways. I thought, "No way is he going to walk out there and gut it." Well he did. I put my cross hairs on him. He cut and gutted the animal. He was gathering the meat.

I fired. . . He went down but wasn't dead. I fired again and missed. I carefully took aim at his head and fired one last time. DR GONZO HAS KILLED ROBERT. Whoa!! typed a player in side chat. The server was friendly until my actions filled everyone with fear.

A player says, "I guess you're not friendly."

I back peddled.

"Oh shit man that was an accident." I lied. "I thought he was shooting at me."

Horrible guilt filled me. I ran and hid in some trees and logged off. As I drifted off to sleep, the entire scenario ran through my head. It was only then that I realized my confusion about Balota and North East. It was only then that I realized I killed a possible friend. I have never experienced a feeling like this from playing a video game. I am a little freaked out honestly.

I was just curious if anyone else had a "first innocent killed" experience to share.

I'm not a bandit. My skin did not change. But something inside me definitely has.

You've been playing for at least a month and don't know the difference between Balota andd the NEAF? I think you are just a want to be bandit that found out you don't have the stones for it. You killed someone just because you had to try out that brand new DMR.

I had an interesting first kill experience too. Well technically it wasn't my kill but ill explain that later. I had been playing for awhile specifically playing on low player servers to avoid pvp contact. I had already collected a DMR and an M9. One day me friend joined for the first time so I took him to the NE airfield. This way he could get some good loot. In real life I had to go help my dad cut a piece of wood for our entertainment center so I ran into the woods and went AFK. I came back with my friend yelling to me over Skype that people are coming. I switched to my DMR and scoped in at the airfield. I saw an ATV with two people approaching getting out of it to approach the airfield. My friend was trapped in the hanger. This is when he made a Bambi move and took off running to the air control tower. The players immediately saw him and told him friendly as they pointed their AK and MP5 at him. My friend pleading for them to please leave, but the players wanted to loot here. They also started moving towards the Air Control Tower even though my friend told them to keep their space. This is when I decided I should do something. I told my friend to tell them that their is a sniper watching you. Of course they called bullshit and moved closer. I then aimed and took the shot on the first guy. I missed by a mile. I hadn't prepared for bullet drop or travel time. After adjusting my aim I fired a few more times. I hit the second guy in the leg and he dropped down. At this moment his friend combat logged off and left him to die. My friend finished him with the M1014 he found, but I still got most of the kill.

I love reading about first kills.

Ive never felt such a rush of guilt or pleasure when executing another player in a game before. That's why this game has me addicted. The adrenaline rush is unparalleled and IMO there is no equal.

Yeah it sure is addictive, I used to play a little more PVE but since I'm playing on the BALOTA BUDDIES servers I do find the PVP also very interesting.

You will never forget your first honest kill.

Should have had my first kill last night. Only shot the guy because he was clearly unfriendly and coming for me. Wookied-up too.

Unloaded my Bizon SD into him and he just ran out of the buidling we were in. He and came back and destroyed the wall I had my back to. Chased me for a bit before (and I can't remember now how I died, damn memory) I logged out.

That's a moral kill in my book (mens rea and all that) if not an actual kill. Yay or nay?

My first fucking kill, Gee this was in march 14th, 2012. I'll never forget it spawning with a Makarov , nothing like it I tell you! anyways my first day playing I knew I wanted to be an asshole never even bothered trying to be friendly I remember a kid running up to me and saying friendly well we got to Balota together and I didn't know if I wanted to kill him or not but I killed him anyways I felt bad, but at the same time laughed my ass off

I was an asshole and from there on I just shot on sight like any other asshole does. I did at one point make a few friends in -game even though I was an asshole in-game I'm not in real life so my personality would eventually get to me and I'd help out a few people usually run to their area of aid and give them blood bags or give them a gun and we'd raid the airfield. I've got to admit Dayz is a pointless game in the end you get nothing, but in the end it's always satisfying being able to lot the airfield or stary and not dying or taking down a huey with a few people inside.

I know it seems ridiculous and obviously you are partially correct about trying out the gun. It was the first time I've ever been able to view another player from a safe distance, but I really did think I was at Balota for a minute. My mind just slipped. Thanks for the input man.

I have not yet killed a human player and I do not want to unless I really have to. I try to avoid getting involved in situations like this unless I know someone is friendly. Last night a guy gunned me down even though I had no equipment...seemed like a pointless kill but it emphasizes how dangerous and ruthless a world this game is set in.

I play on the BALOTA BUDDIES whitelisted servers. They have a couple of servers, on US46 I'm a hero and don't kill people but just try to help others as much as I can. But on UK46 I play as a stinkin' bandit and try to kill as much as I can, don't matter if you're shouting friendly! You're going down....

I just got my first kill 2 hours ago,

After looting some stuff at cherno, a couple of run around and spotted a car which only needs Gasoline luckily i found a jerry can in the near building. After some time filling the fuel up I noticed my Blood on the red level so i asked on the server who can help me transfer blood, I found a friendly player just East of Cherno so i rushed there with my car. Because of the horde attracted I quickly stopped and waited for the player to get in the car. So we went far from the road and near the coast where he gave me Blood transfusion. Not noticing there was a 2nd guy inside the car and tried making the run for it with my car. So i quickly entered the back seat of the vehicle and waited for him to stop. After 5 - 10 minutes or so He crashed into a building and started making a run for it with my Remington i started shooting but because of my hands shaking like hell because i have never tried killing a person before. So i followed him while shooting after awhile hordes of zombies are now attacking me and him so i have to make a distance to zombie while shooting him. Then he turned around and started shooting me with his M16 and i back fired. I shot his foot and suddenly he fell so i thought his legs were broken and ran away from him and let the zombies take care of the rest.

After some minutes he died. I waited for the zombies to stop and killed them with my crowbar because its effective with a rifle at the same time. I looted him and took it to the car. I laughed when i saw him again running for dear life from the zombies at Elektro

I've been playing for months and still can't bring myself to shoot someone without seeing if they're friendly. Lame I know but oh well.. I'm thinking of turning to banditry just to exorcise myself.

You guys have my respect. I wish I could shoot innocent people and care- but I don't. Basically I always shoot on sight- not because I like banditry (which I absolutely hate) but just because of paranoia... soul-eating paranoia. Every kill I just think "yes, he shouted friendly, but if we teamed up, he would've shot me in the back and took my beans"... but every kill something dies in me. I'm jealous of you guys who can team up with people... I wish I could do that without my heart bursting every step until I pull the trigger because I'm to feared of my companion,

Day 3.

Berezino.

5:30am

The darkness around Chernarus was an extra shade of black that Wednesday morning, the cold chilling winds hit my face as got up from the bush I had slept in that night. My stomach rung out for food and my thirst needed to be quenched, reaching into my ALICE pack I pulled out a slightly older than normal Sardine can and a surprisingly cold can of Pepsi. Taking my hunting knife I pierced the Sardine can and poured the foul tasting vinegar out of the hole I had made, slowly and very carefully I cut the tin to make it easily accessible for my finger to take the salty fish out of the dirty can, opening the can of Pepsi I ate the Sardines and masked their foul taste with the cold fizziness of the Pepsi drink.

Wiping the slumber out of my eyes I began to move north east, not many people are active at this hour so moving to more dangerous areas was a good idea, before I set off I realised I had no chemlights in my back pack to light my way through the dark murky woods of Chernarus however on my tool-belt was my flash light which truthfully wasn't that great but it would have to do if I was to make it to the North East Airfield before sunrise, running through the woods their was nobody to be seen, the silence cut through the air as I ran north west to my destination.

5:55am

Arriving near the airfield I slowed my pace to a crawl, the silence was cut dead as the cruel moans of the infected entered my mind, oblivious to my presence I slowly crawled and made it to my first destination which so happened to be the ATC tower, once a vibrant communication beacon was now as silent as myself as I held my breathe upon entering, exhaling I slowly shut the door behind me and headed up the stairs to see if there was anything useful for my survival.

Looking around I found some blue Chemlights and some G17 magazines, only taking what I needed I lit the chemlight and left for the hangers, undetected I searched through the hanger bays but only some useless Lee Enfield magazines and empty tin cans where there to greet my anticipation, checking my map I decided to be bold and head to the most dangerous and personally unexplored North West Airfield.

Heading south west at this time wasn't so bad of an idea, Krastnostav was peaceful as I headed on my bearing, suddenly my radio buzzed and a voice entered the silent woods 'Hey, anybody out there?', lowering my radio I kept on my way, this guy could be anywhere, he could even be a Bandit after my FN FAL, again my radio buzzed 'Come on man, anybody know where to find a Ghillie suit?' answering to keep the guy quiet I told him I only ever found one in Chernogorsk or Elektrozavodsk he thanked me and the radio went silent with only the blowing wind to keep me company.

6:25am

The trek was long, maybe 8km and my journey would take me past Devils Castle a place I didn't want to be anywhere near, too many bad memories haunted that area, so quickly checking my map and eating a tin of Beans and drinking one of my many cans of Coca Cola. Not wanting to spend much time around this area of Chernarus I kept on the move north west past the castle and towards the Airfield, slowly I approached the barracks in the center of the misty airfield, attracting some unwanted attention I ran inside and found an Uzi on the floor with one magazine, taking aim I shot the grotesque creatures one by one until silence resumed.

On my way out of the barracks the rain started to drip down from the slowly illuminating sky, going prone I crawled for 10 minutes to keep my presence here to a minimum, it's better to be safe than sorry I told myself as I approached the other barracks on the south west area of the airfield, stepping into the barracks I had to maneuver my way over a bench which blocked my way, during my maneuver one of the infected seen me and attacked me. 'Fuck!!' I shouted aloud as I pressed the muzzle of my Uzi against the undead face of my attacker, two shots rang out of my weapon as he hit the floor.

Wanting to get out of this death trap I meticulously searched the four or five barrack dorms in the third room lay an M14 AIM, my eyes lit up and adrenaline running I picked it up and left my FN FAL on the floor for some lucky survivor to pick up. Bandaging I stopped the bleeding however my vision was blurry and I needed blood if I was to survive the day, remembering the guy on the radio from earlier I spoke 'Test, test, hello anybody there, did you find the Ghillie suit?' as I made it out of the airfield and back into the wilderness my radio buzzed.

'No man, no luck, how's it going?' weary of the guy on the other end I told him I was ok but could do with a blood transfusion. He told me he had blood and was near Grishino. I brought my map out and told him I was pretty near and asked whether he was friendly or not. 'Yeah I'm friendly man, you want to meet up so I can help you?', I agreed and made my way north to Grishino.

6:45am

In the distance I could see a blazing fire, 'survivors?' I though as I made my way slowly towards the crash site, to my dismay the only sign of life was that of the flames and that of the dead who patrolled the glowing area, heading into the nearby bushes I took aim and shot the infected. My radio buzzed as I ran towards the crash site 'Hey...is that you shooting? I'm friendly man'. I laughed as I told him I was taking out the dead and to see if he wanted the weapon from the crash site, he agreed and told me his name was Andy we exchanged pleasantries as I found only ammunition from the downed chopper.

'What weapon do you have mate?" I asked in a pleasant yet worried tone, many people appear friendly in this world but will take you out in seconds if they need to. 'An M4A1 CCO SD' he replied with an obvious accomplished smile across his face 'Nice well it's your lucky day my friend I have just found plenty of STANAG SD magazines at this crash site' He thanked me and told me to meet him south of Grishino and to look for a tower with a giant ball on top of it. I agreed and made my way there.

6:55am

'I'm illuminated by a chemlight' he told me as I new we where getting closer, suddenly I see him running across my field of view, in a split second he turned and shot his gun, instinct took over my body and adrenaline done the rest, my M14 AIM rose and put his chest in the cross hair, aiming down the site I shot twice into his torso, he dropped to the floor in an instant, the radio buzzed one last time as Andy spoke his final words 'I...was shooting the ...infected.. I'm friendly.'.

The raw emotion of guilt hit me hard as I checked the guys pack, he had a bit of food which I had to take, on my way back east I couldn't control my guilt, however half of me thought he could have been shooting at me and that it was definitely to be safe than sorry in Chernarus.

Ohhh you said no more?.

Thanks!

Oh man. First kill ever...? Truth is, I've been playing this game since December 2012, and I have yet to kill anyone.

Granted, I've only been shot at and killed when shot at once, too.... I like to play alone and avoid situations which require me to kill/ make decisions in that regard.

Although, If I recall correctly I have been in a situation where I've strongly considered killing someone in a group I was traveling with.

It was a younger kid. By the sound of his voice, he couldn't have been over 13. Before I continue, I treat players of every age with respect, so if you think I was tempted to kill him just because he was young, you've got the wrong idea.

Anyway, his tone of voice sounded uneasy and it had a hint of hesitance, and when he started asking if we could stop and loot at every location we passed in our Ural, we felt a little uneasy ourselves. We eventually arrived at the airfield so I could search for some more rounds for my DMR. While I was in the tower, I saw the kid jump in the back of the ural and stay there for awhile, as if he was looting the truck. I was going to shoot him, but I decided against it, fearing that my team would think I was shooting him for sport, and kill me as well.

After finishing our raid of the Airfield, the kid said he had to go, so we said our goodbyes and he ran into the forest and logged out. A little while later, my friend went to get some food out of the Ural and when he looked in the gear, half of our stuff was missing. This included our AKM, our M24, and a good chunk of ammunition we had stockpiled. My team was absolutely livid, and I was more angry at myself for not taking the opportunity I had had to blow his brains out. I still cringe when I think of it.
