Stealth Pyro 3 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) They are/will be completely separate things. The mod will continue to be developed by community devs, the SA will/is being developed by Rocket/BIS.It's great that the community developers don't want to just abandon all of those supporters that bought Arma 2 just to play DayZ, but it also sort of sucks that we have to "choose" between the standalone version and the mod and split the community. I'm sure the population on both will be pleasant but I can't help but think that the mod won't live up to what the standalone version will offer. The standalone version seems that it will be very fairly and well priced (BIS and Rocket know that a LOT of people bought Arma 2 just to play DayZ), so I'd hope that DayZ players do decide to fork out cash again to get the benefits of the standalone version. zombie123 (DayZ) 18 Posted January 3, 2013 On the SA, what's going to happen to Chernarus? Are they adding more cities? More big buildings? Are they going to expand the 225 km²? Any new loot or vehicle on the map?
Cdrive 60 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) On the SA, what's going to happen to Chernarus? Are they adding more cities? More big buildings? Are they going to expand the 225 km²? Any new loot or vehicle on the map?We don't have much information on new loot or vehicles but if they decide that the additions to the mod are sufficiently balanced they may take some of the already implemented weapons from there to the SA, but apart from that all we've heard is Rocket's goal of wanting to add more low-tier and melee weapons into the game. As for more cities Rocket has said that they had a guy working on new areas since November. (?) There may not be more big buildings but what there will be are more enterable buildings, which means that previous 'big buildings' that were not enterable before may be now.We haven't heard anything about expanding the area, although it's quite possible due the addition of new areas on the map, and the goal to up the player count. zombie123 (DayZ) 18 Posted January 3, 2013 Some people here are saying that this silence is because BIS want some cash on Arma 2 sales!
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) On the SA, what's going to happen to Chernarus? Are they adding more cities? More big buildings? Are they going to expand the 225 km²? Any new loot or vehicle on the map? It's probably easier for you to read this: http://dayzdev.tumbl...umblr.com/ and then have a look at the information section of the forum than it is to answer loads of specific questions about it. In the info section there's loads of interviews with Rocket you should have a look at, it'll give you a good idea of what to expect, or at least what the plans are :) Edited January 3, 2013 by Fraggle

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) There is no confirmed date. They were aiming to release it in time for Xmas, they've missed that target and people are waiting for news. Anything else you hear will be pure speculation. Edited January 3, 2013 by Fraggle
Mini Maracas 37 Posted January 3, 2013 This isn't confirmed or anything, but I'm seeing the 15th of January a believable release date. The Russians "Hope" for this, and I know that doesn't confirm anything, but also January 15th is when the next batch of "Steam Greenlight" games will be released. Coincidence? Hopefully DayZ will be one of these games ^-^
ZerudaXei 4 Posted January 3, 2013 Christ, you know what I want in Standalone? FOR A DOOR NOT TO CLOSE AND BREAK MY LEG FOR CHRISTS SAKE ;~;

OrLoK 16186 Posted January 3, 2013 One *has* to watch those doors. Also, I don't trust that Russian date.L
ZerudaXei 4 Posted January 3, 2013 Nor do I trust it.But really. I got an AK, and was so excited. Left the house it was in, the door was closed, so I opened it, and it went BACKWARDS INTO THE HOUSE, HIT ME, AND BROKE MY LEGS.

Vincenzo (DayZ) 97 Posted January 3, 2013 I once opened a door, I went airborne for about 20 seconds then I hit the ground. WELCOME BUDDY
Nihilum 209 Posted January 3, 2013 I've been slammed against an opening door and the wall many a time... lmaoDoors may rank higher on the threat scale than zombies in my book
OrLoK 16186 Posted January 3, 2013 Welcome to DayZ. Rule #1: don't get attached to your gear. It's not the loss of gear I mind, it's the loss of time. After running around for ages to grab gear to then get popped in the noggin from 500m away is a little frustrating. I do hope the SA comes up with a mechanic that will lessen that kind of event to actually make it special rather than a regular happening.L

How are you getting around?*edit: I seriously doubt they're going to add some restricting mechanic into the game. Rocket wants the game as organic as possible, and making you feel artificially safer is going against that in a multitude of ways.
