amlaborde@windstream.net 94 Posted December 21, 2012 If you have played Max Payne 3 this year, then you should remember that in one of the later chapters he finds some duct tape and a plastic water bottle and fashions together a little suppressor for his pistol. It only lasts a handful of shots before blowing off of his gun. What if this were put into the standalone of the game? Since I hear there will be a crafting section added, you would just need a low caliber pistol, duct tape, and an empty plastic bottle. Craft them together to create a suppressor that only lasts 3-5 shots.. It would be ideal to deal with pursuing infected without stirring the whole town, or bandits close by.What do you think?
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 21, 2012 I like it. I played Max Payne 3 and enjoyed that part. I have literally no knowledge about how guns in the real world work though so I'm sure a gun-nut will be along shortly to tell us why it would never work IRL. OrLoK 16185 Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) A bit impractical IMHO as you'd have to be damn close due to sight obstruction and then using a small calibre weapon may not deal the lethality you'd need.A *fun* idea, but i'm not sure about it. Anyone else?RgdsLoKdamn ninja mods... Edited December 21, 2012 by orlok

Or when you are in spitting distance of a bandit.
burritoman259 593 Posted December 22, 2012 there is a chance you could do this and not shoot a bullet and a bottle at the back of a zombies head but who knows.http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-silencer-in-under-5-minutes/http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2012/10/23/diy-maglite-flashlight-suppressor/

We don't want temporary supressors to render SD weapons obsolete so make the use of plastic bottles and pistols limited in use and reduce accuracy and effective range. You can use a bottle for a shot or two if you desperately need but it just doesn't compare to a proper SD weapon.
Charb 298 Posted December 22, 2012 actual works better for rifles than pistols was unable to find the movie clip with steven segal but this is a .45 with a 2 liter... don't think it works as good as u think...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWVwn7hOVnE

enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) An oil filter would work better provided you have the tools to make an adapter ( which has been approved by the atf btw... ) ...the plastic bottle suppressor myth was busted a long time ago, at least it won't work on anything larger than .177. Sutinen 635 Posted December 22, 2012 I think it wouldn't even work on your first shot. It doesn't have baffles, the bottle gets cracked in thousand pieces after you shoot with it, etc.
terminal_boy 860 Posted December 22, 2012 Home made suppressors should only work for a few shots and only on small calibre pistols due to the propellant gas speeds and volumes of larger pistol and rifle calibres.Without a .22 pistol in the game, you don't really have a suitable candidate pistol for a soda bottle suppressor. OrLoK 16185 Posted December 22, 2012 Hello thereSurely with a pistol these would not work more than one shot due to the slide action thus making them even more redundant?Or am i putting too much technical stuff in the way of fun?RgdsLoK
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 22, 2012 :( - Well, it was a nice idea. Maybe it's best off staying in Max Payne
liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted December 22, 2012 Yes. It does work. However I have personally only tried it with a .22Not a bad idea.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 22, 2012 How does the bottle stay on with the slide action going? Or was your test with a rifle?L
liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) How does the bottle stay on with the slide action going? Or was your test with a rifle?LIt was a rifle. However it could easily stay on if attached to a pistol just as any real suppressor stays on. The barrel is usually extended and the extension is threaded. Therefore the slide would in no way interfere with the bottle.I do assume and have heard that plastic bottles can suppress full bore ammunition also. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 22, 2012 I honestly think think this idea still has legs and would fit well with the new weapon customisation and more "home-made" style their going for in the SA. It's better than my swan farming idea.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 22, 2012 Can you suppress a swan with a bottle? On second thoughts, don't answer that.I'm not against the idea, I just don't like tropes. If it's legit in real life then it does sound fun. (the bottle not the swan)L
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Agreed, I'd only like to see it if it's at all feasable IRL.And yes you can supress a swan with a bottle but you need permission from the Queen first. Edited December 22, 2012 by Fraggle
enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) On seconds thought i like the idea in Postal better where they "used" a cat...Doesn't even sound like a weapon anymore... Edited December 22, 2012 by Enforcer

A M9 unsuppressed still cracks out at 160ish Db, a suppressed one with a nice setup will still ring out at roughly 130Db... these things are very quiet in game in relation to how they really sound. With high-end technology these things are still loud - this plastic setup... which I've seen attempted before does lower the noise... but not quiet as much as the movies portray. With that said though, from the games standpoint - I like the idea.Note that the above video is a .22 ... damn near a BB gun with subsonic ammo... videos of the M9 and Glock 17 are posted on that website...
