bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) Whenever the topic of first person comes up, people always throw out the "well just go play on a first person only server! ugh your so dumb" and think the discussion is settled. Well guess what? First person only servers are very few and very unpopulated. So my question, is if ALL servers decided to switch to expert settings (no crosshair, no name, no kill messages, no third person, and probably something else I've forgotten) would you still play the game? Or is the server settings such a huge part of your DayZ expereince that you couldn't enjoy it anymore?I'm curious how the community would react if Rocket did what I want him to do in standalone. xenomta 128 Posted November 14, 2012 Yeah, first person makes it so much better and adds tension in firefights.
Leadon77 94 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) I'd need a steady supply of motion sickness pills or to quit playing...as no matter what I do with the settings I get motion sick in first person all the time, short stints no problem, long runs I need a bucket.Would I quit playing probably not, would it limit my playing time to nearly pointless, Yes definetely.(btw this is the only game that gives me that feeling in First person, so maybe has to do with a graphical quality) Edited November 14, 2012 by Leadon77

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted November 14, 2012 I wouldn't stop playing it, but most have come to recognise DayZ as a 3rd person experience, with FPS gameplay. Which is how I've gotten used to it. 1st person all the time gets boring IMO, so I just use it for shooting. You have to keep in mind, if Rocket did what you want him to do with standalone, it wouldn't be true to DayZ. We need him to do what he wants to do.

Also you could try double tapping the - to get a wider FOV.

We need him to do what he wants to do.Well, I'm not pushing him to make them all expert settings for my sake. I'm just saying if he does it like that, it would be the same as what I would have done. I want Rocket to make the game he wants.I don't want to get into the pro & cons of first person, there are lots of threads for that discussion. I was just using it as an example of how people want to keep these settings that make the game easier, or as rocket would say... more accessible. I'm curious if those options were taken from their game, how would people react.

klesh 2423 Posted November 14, 2012 Well guess what? First person only servers are very few and very unpopulated. So you want rocket to switch to a game mode for standalone which has already proven itself to be unpopular?

bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted November 14, 2012 So you want rocket to switch to a game mode for standalone which has already proven itself to be unpopular?Yes. As long as it follows Rockets vision for DayZ. I don't think popular opinion should play any part in the development of DayZ.In my opinion, DayZ has gotten this popular because it didn't conform to popular opinion. Going back on that philosophy now would really just screw things up. If people can't accept the game DayZ was always going to be, they shouldn't have gotten on board in Alpha.I see a lot of people pushing hard to make this game more easy. Not just with server settings, but now private hive mods are further making it easier and easier. It's clear that if you give people the ability to dumb down the DayZ experience, they will run with it and push it as far as it'll go. The thing is tho, this game is evolving and those people are going to be left behind if Rocket locks things down in the future.I guess I'm just asking these questions to see what those people think, are they going to stick with their private 'easy mode' hive if the official servers were forced to run expert settings. Also, if the standalone does it, will they simply stick with the mod?
klesh 2423 Posted November 14, 2012 I wouldn't be happy, but I wouldn't quit. I play mostly in 3rd person and go into 1st when shooting.
Inception. 9443 Posted November 14, 2012 Would I quit? No, I would fap.Your mentality is most pleasing. And no, I would not quit...in fact, I would be more motivated to play. No kill message? Yes please.
ZomboWTF 527 Posted November 14, 2012 i dont think giving people choices is bad, keeping some settings up to the server owner is just normal and the best way to goyou can argue in both ways anyway, it is true you have a feeling for where your bodyparts are in real life so seeing your whole body in third person is realistically and gives you a deeper immersion as to who you are and what you dofirst person however is the only way to stop people looking around corners without actually showing themselfes, and makes the immersion even more than in third person, and aiming is easier, but at the same time is a pain when walking long or wanting to be sure you are hidden, and the only viable option to start trading or talking with people without being in utmost danger, also you cant see the whole spectrum of the capability of a human eye without frog vision or three monitorsi hope the choice will still be with the server owners wether third or first person, makes the most sense and will keep both sides happy, though i guess third person will have more players all the time, since it is allready a hardcore game without first person only
terrvik 2409 Posted November 14, 2012 I would smile for a week. I started on a veteran (with first-person only) servers with everything off back in the days where you had to hammer the enter key to even get in a server. Was really baffled when I learned that stuff like waypoints and such were used. :)And I am not "hardcore" either, I suck at the game. I just like the emotions the harsh environment conveys. bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted November 14, 2012 I would obviously love if expert settings were standard. Originally I played only on first person servers, but due to lack of a population I've now switched to 3rd person servers and I'll admit I use 3rd person about 90% of the time. I use 3rd person view because it's better, but I feel the game itself would improve without it. To me, it's similar to auto-aim in console games, if it's there, you HAVE to use it because everyone else does.
Parasprite 35 Posted November 14, 2012 I would play a lot more. The only reason I use 3rd person is because if I don't I'm putting myself at a major disadvantage.
OrLoK 16185 Posted November 14, 2012 Hello thereI prefer it hard, and the game settings on expert. 1st person too. But, there is a fanbase who don't like it that way and why should they be alienated?I think it should be a server setting, but more servers should man up and be all butch and macho and have all assistance/3rd person off.Did I mention I like it hard?rgdsLoK
