What's a good way to make players not shoot?

I've been thinking of taking the hero path, instead of the bandit one, and was wondering if there was a way to make friends or at least not make it so that the person shoots at you. I know some people, but we've just turned to being bandits in our current servers. So I went to a new server, and am going to try to be a hero.

Don't let them shoot you, command them to drop their weapons from cover. If they comply help them if not leave or shoot them in the leg and leave. Cover is your friend as a Hero, also have at least 3 ways of escape planned. Most the time you will merge them because in DayZ no plans are flawless.

if you have a sniper rifle, no as50 or m107 because that single hit kills. just pop one in the leg, most of the time they will pass out, run up to them, bandage them, give a blood bag if you have an extra and loot. run away before the wake up.

In the meantime, you should be out of view, flanking them. Get behind them, but be slow, patient, and methodical. Sooner or later, they'll let their guard down. This is when you move in.

Pull out your hatchet and charge in behind them. Swing that hatchet like a gang member in a prison riot.

Now you should be bathing in their innocent Bambi blood....I mean...helping them.

In the UK when there is a tragedy or disaster folk tend to forget class or status and "club toghether" to assist each other. (there's always exceptions though) I assume it's the same in the States, so your attitude sounds a little sociopathic :)

Seriously, though, the only way to avoid being shot at is to avoid players, you might try helping new spawns get kitted out, but there's always the risk of a "Long Islander" type shooting you in the back once they have a weapon.

Step 1. Locate target

Step 2. Make sure can see them CLEARLY but they cannot see you at all, if not possible come at the from behind... ;)

Step 3. Tell them you can see them, you don't want to kill them, and to put there gun on the floor and back away, they can pick it up when you've passed, if behind them tell them not to turn around also.

Step 4. ??

Step 5. F**k B**ches.

Oh.. and Step 6. If needed, kill them, or shoot them in the leg/arm to make them unconscious and let them know your leave them be and they can bandage themselves when you've left.

Having some buddies would give you a group thus making it easier to search for food, protect each other, care each other, give emotional relief, distribute chores, etc...

Plus there is the fact you are killing another human being, I can't believe you are so void of emotions you can just straight kill someone just because. They have/had families, friends, works, worries, etc just like you.

Got my hero skin twice to date, the best way is by far the most idiotic tbh, walk up, shout friendly, and immediatly offer med aid.

This method is for isolated areas, airfields, small towns, etc

1. They can see you, they have the upper hand as such

2. They know they can shoot first, they feel safer

3. you are valuable to them because of your offer, they will be less likely to kill you.

Egress and finishing up is by far the part i took longest to perfect.

1.Finish all med aid, offer them ammo, food etc, stuff you know they might not need but want.

2. Start to back off but keep your weapon trained on them, if they turn to face with weapon raised, back away faster

3.Head directly away from them, after 5 mins, weave and hide in a bush, wait 3 mins and continue on your way.

Second method:

this is the stupid one. be warned...works infinitly better with a partner

1. Get to electro/cherno. high pop server.

2.Get weapon, lee enfield is my preference

3.Get into hospital, take all the blood bags, pain killers and bandages you can carry.

4. Go to the church

5.over side chat announce that anyone can get BT's from you at the chruch

6. wait by alter

-ONLY IF WITH PARTNER-

7.Partner waits on roof of church or beside stone coffins at the side, something goes wrong, he should have a clear shot and he should under no circumstances reveal his position without warrant.

Hope this helps prospective hero's out there, remember, as a hero, you are a helper of bambis and a target for bandits.

OP don't listen to the trigger happy "heros."

As a hero you'll come across many, who are willing to shoot anyone they see.

You'll also come across many, who are so scared they'll shoot anyone they think is a threat and they see threats everywhere.

If you follow their advise above, escalating every situation either by threatening people, shooting them in the legs or ordering them around at gun point, then you're not really a hero, you're more like a well dressed bandit. Instead of escalating these tense situations, deescalate them. Break line of sight/line of fire, take cover behind something solid and say Friendly, friendly! while doing so. Tell players armed with axes to keep their distance and players with firearms to avoid pointing at you. Chernarus is a dangerous place and forcing players you meet to disarm and completely place themselves at your mercy is a really bad way of building trust.

1. Take cover to avoid getting killed on sight.

2. Take cover to avoid presenting a direct threat.

3. Establish contact, start with friendly, friendly!

4. Start a conversation from safe cover.

Remember when talking to a stranger to listen for the warning signs, if he comes off as unnatural friendly, mocking you or disrespecting you, don't trust him or give him any opportunity to shoot you in the face. Just ask him what's he's doing, where he's going, if he needs something and take it from there.

lol, no - just speaking in hypothetical terms. if there were no police, no food, no running water....and other people were walking around with weapons likely to shoot me for my gear...I wouldnt be out looking for 'friends' other than the people I already know and trust.
