You want depressing you should read "On the Beach" another post apocalyptic book. Depressing doesnt even come close. Should be given to Death Row inmates to save on electricity.

For those who played DayZ at its highest settings, how is this compared to it?

Good job Rocket and I'm still holding your word on releasing the alpha on Nov/Dec. Go Team DayZ!

It would be cool but how much cooler if those little details were player-made? I think the work on interiors shouldn't go farther than dirtying up the textures and add some cleverly placed decals (think old magasines, random unidentified trash... etc).

Details is everything, really hope it gets improved from Arma2s unpersonal interiors/designs. Sure player-made details would be cool, but not sure how the engine is going to be capable on doing that, a persistant world where corpses/bloodsplat/empty shells/bulletholes etc would stay forever is probably quite hard to do and optimize :)

Is the designer from Russia? Looks like he knows the russian bungalow interiors pretty good.

Chernarus is based on a real location in the Czech Republic and Bohemia Interactive, the creators of Arma, are from czech origin as well. They are re-creating their home so to say.

It's nice to see you can confirm the authenticity :)

I would prefer such "easter egg" discoveries will come from discovering something that happened to another player. I think that will be far more compelling and less repetitive than something manufactured and backed into the map.

While blood spattered hallways are fun, but I think more evidence of people's lives being frozen in time are far more distressing; at least to me. Children's toys on the floor, half-cooked/burnt meals on the stove, phone off the hook, that sort of thing. When my grandfather passed I wasn't upset till I had to deal with tidying up his house. Cleaning out the fridge, seeing the half eaten sandwich that he was never going to finish, the reminders for doctor's appointments that were moot now, that is what finally made me break down.

As a survivor going through somebody's house I think seeing a post-in on the wall reminding a child to take their school lunch, and that mommy loves them, would have more impact on what has been lost then a bloody hand-print.

my 2 cents

I think it looks excellent, and I'm excited to see the increased focus on indoor settings for DayZ. Hopefully indoor gameplay will also progress nicely as well. I would also like to remind people that traditional Russian/East Slavic architecture tends to be very colorful and ornate, especially in more established towns and villages. Not everything is gray Soviet commieblocks or brown-gray village houses over there. I think things look accurate enough (it doesn't have to be exact) for an ex-Russian province.

I would also like to agree with the idea that houses and other buildings should have "containers" (cabinets, drawers, lockers, etc) in them that contain loot.

Chernarus is based on a real location in the Czech Republic and Bohemia Interactive, the creators of Arma, are from czech origin as well. They are re-creating their home so to say.

Sort of, but not exactly. While the location draws a lot of its geography and features from the Czech Republic, Chernarus is not really supposed to be like the Czech Republic, which is a West Slavic, Central European nation with heavy German influence. Chernarus is a "Rus" nation, like the real states of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine (Rusyns). "Chernarus" means "Black Rus" in Russian, as "Belarus" means "White Rus". Unlike the Czech Republic, Chernarus is supposed to be an East Slavic, Russian speaking, Eastern Orthodox, ex-Soviet state in the past and current Russian sphere of control/influence. The way Chernarus is portrayed in the game, it's a lot like a part of southern Ukraine on the Black Sea, part of the former "Novorossiya" ("New Russia") region which in real life is still entrenched in the Russian language and heritage despite now being part of independent Ukraine.

So my point is; they are supposed to be recreating Russian/Rus/Soviet architecture, not Czech architecture. And from what we have seen so far, they are doing a pretty good job.

I suppose this is a little bit off topic, but one the subject of building interiors it had me thinking about how buildings and rooms will come into play in the future of DayZ. I have a suggestion that I really think would be neat to see and one of those small things that adds to the immersion of the game.

Animations and options when opening doors.

So, if anyone has played the splinter cell games this will sound familiar. Basicly, when you walk up to a closed door (not a gate, this idea only applies to doors in houses and building) it has three options. Open Door, Open Door Quietly, and Kick Door.

Open Door: Relativily quick method of opening the door, it allows you to enter a house or room quickly while making a little bit of noise.

Open Door Quietly: Slow method of opening the door, however this method is silent to zombies, a slight creaking noise can be heard by players.

Kick Door: Loudest, but fastest way of opening a door. Kicking a door will knock a zombie or player standing on the other side of the door over; players recover quickly, zombies recover slowly.

I honestly think its the little things like this, and other great things that rocket has implemented that stand this game out from the competition. Obviously this would need to be tested, require good animations to be made, and probably not be something to add until later in development, but things like this are what I really hope to see in a simulator such as DayZ.

I'm waiting for the standalone version. The mod is not fun anymore. Nobody of my friends plays it anymore and if i find a server with over 20 people in it i get killed in 15mins because of the hackers and bandits with as50 and other high grade gear or hacked weapons.

Amazing work, but i would really like if you lowered the shining effect of the sun, from the ground when your inside a house, but also on the shining object like metal pieces, its realistic, but its overdone. =/

Offtopic from graphics: I hope the movements of your character is changed, there are alot of movements in arma II where you are stuck in place. Would be nice if you could for example roll out of a "stand up" or "creating/repairing" in case you need to get out of there fast.

If you did that you would of course drop what ever you had in your hands on the ground, making it exiting/scary to try and repair something. :)
