Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
SmashT replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
So excited! The interiors look amazing! Also, the character in the last screenshot's got swag. Full-Size screenshots: Q: Do we actually spawn in our underwear? A: No, but you can drop your clothes, or I guess someone might order you to drop them. Q: How do we get to be one of the testers? A: Those who are testing will get the game for free, and never have to pay for future versions. Their job will be tough. We're starting by rewarding the forum moderators, reddit moderators, dayz mod development and community support team, etc... Rocket also did a quick Q&A on liriks livestream, these are the (paraphrased) answers: - Some twitch streamers will be in the test - There will be an NDA in the closed test, but streaming will be allowed. - Release (test) could be any day now - Clothing is unisex - Weapons will have durability and there will be weapon cleaning. - They want to allow modding later on, once the game is stable/secure. - Cars/vehicles will be phase two priority, Rocket wants to redo them completely so you can change parts, engines, build, mix and match Mad Max style. - Rocket hopes to be able to "Mad Max style" build cars, interchanging parts and engines etc. - More blood gore, not cheesy though - Individual bone fractures will exist in a few months, it's not complete but the engine architecture is done. - DayZ will likely be ported to xbox if sales are over 1 million. - The game is heavily optmized, our three programmers are the people who made the engine, there WILL be some problems, at least for the first three months but most of that will be server oriented, most fps improvements at client end will probably be soaked up by graphic improvements. - Night and lighting? The artist and programmer who revised the lighting for ArmA3 will be helping with DayZ, closer to release. - The new skin shader is from the ARMA III engine - Adding children to the game has been considered. Also a Q&A we did with Matt can be found here: http://dayzmod.com/f...thew-lightfoot/ Some more questions answered by Rocket on Reddit can be found here: http://dayzmod.com/f...20#entry1106882- 1588 replies

Yes. I'm tired of seeing people run trough zombie hordes to pick some shit up and then run back into their vehicles. Some goes for fresh spawns, they run recklessly trough a zombie horde without getting killed.

Free DayZ StandAlone TeamSpeak @ 37.187.195.75 - ZombieWorld.eu -- SA Server is up !!!
[email protected] replied to U.G.N - Jedi Panda's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Cracking night's gaming last night, got us a rag tag squad of 6, got multiple vehicles, an apache - btw, I'd love to know who we were shooting at outside elektro with the copter, he/she ran and dodged and weave for so long from the copter's gun fire, we let him/her live (they earned it!!!), got revenge on Cat and Gerry in a fantastic set up and even had time to shoot weasel when he was trying to use the toilet. (Sorry mate, was guarding something). May have killed a few more players than I usually do, but it's back to being Nice Mr B now, the one who gives out guns to bambis! -
Agreed. Some servers now are going way overboard with the amount of vehicles and start equipment. Its good fun for a little while if you're looking for pure PvP but it wears off.

What's the best way to keep a sever populated?
facoptere replied to aundre_'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I agree with rboos. I would say, from most to least important: 1/ Uptime, fast logon & regular restarts. Players want consistency. If they know that a server is always functional, they will join this one first. 2/ Low ping, well populated, good rank. It is quite stupid, but players sort servers by ping and take a server that is already well populated 3/ Daylight. Setting time to summer and night to full moon help to get players stay longer on the server. 4/ Difficulty to Regular (with crosshair and 3rd person view), high ping welcomed 5/ Strong anticheat & Admins (watching with Gcam) 6/ Vehicles. Players want to know they can find the 43 vehicles on the map 7/ Community, Teamspeak: these may help. I use public hive, so I can't perform any rollback, but I tweaked the server to stick with all the points above. -
We've now added a couple more REPAIRED vehicles around the coast and a few more helicopters as we don't want to many of you walking :)

Anyone else having issues with vehicles not repairing on Pantera? I've removed all the vehicles and respawned them all.... It seems that is a vehicle spawns, mainly choppers, they can't be repaired. This has been going on since the servers have been hacked, or is it an update glitch? -
We run a Taviana map, it's bigger than Cherno and each city has more things to loot in them and more custom and enterable buildings that aren't in Cherno. There's more hospitals, pubs, apartment blocks, loads of barracks around (including new enterable ones), we have a max vehicles limit of 500 enabled including hummers, land rovers (pinkies), different choppers, cargo planes, VW Golfs, SUVs etc. We also have custom weapons available (Makarov SD, G36). Check out our server, details can be found on our website's server page: http://www.bsbnetwork.com/servers

Looking for a special server
burritoman259 replied to tereith2050's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ok first off your not going to find a decent server with 250-350 vehicles or 50-100 aircraft because of framerate lag, Second, I'm pretty sure that was an rmod server frankie was on, map and vehicle wise. last but not least if you want base building all that jazz, try dayz plus its got a bit of base construction implemented. -

Thanks guys, was looking for a good server... Been playing here for about a week now. Lot of vehicles, good spawnrate in buildings!!!! Could use some more people th0' So join peeps!!! -
There is no "guaranteed" safe base. Best bet is picking a low occupied server (for main Hive) in an obscure location for gear. I rarely, if ever, leave my vehicles close to my tents either, its too tempting for a player to find your vehicle, take all your good stuff and drive over your tent(s) then you lose everything. I tend to dot cams and vehicles around the map in random places that arent likely to see people on foot pass through, then you only ever lose small quantities of items at a time. Mind you I tend to play more on our Taviana server and it's a bit better (as it's bigger and has better terrain) for having camps.
-
Mwhahahaha, I was doing pickups in Cherno in a bus when a Bandit with a DMR shot me and rode off in the bus, Annoyed I wanted revenge and a friend had watched the bus driving up to Pobreda Dam, so I picked up a Pickup truck from our camp and drove up, when I got there I decided to look around to see if I could find anything and I found some trample bushes on the other side so I figured I would go in the angle from the damn to the bushes through the forest and I found a Camp!, It was in a Clearing and it had a Heli, I called up my friend and we took all the gear needed and stole their Urul, there was still a lot of gear but we didnt need it and we didn't want the Heli as we don't really like that much attention so I flew it up about 100m in the air, turned auto hover on and turned off the engine, I then ejected and let the heli blow up in their base and destroy their tents and vehicles :D
-
In the standalone fuel will be rare, and vehicles will be much less rare, you know all those destroyed vehicles? all of them will be normal and driveable, and you will be able to remove parts from, but the biggest problem will be fuel itself, almost none will have it.

Everytime I find a chopper, first thing I do is fly across the north and west ends of the map. Tents are vehicles can be spotted real easy this way and I dont think anywhere on the map is 'safe'. Its the reason I dont make bases anymore, which is a pitty because that's the only thing which gives purpose to the game. The big plus in Panthera is the fact that a lot of structures and compounds can be closed down with tanktraps and wirekits in a way that its hard to get in. I had a lot of tents there which were never discovered/stolen in a period of 2 months.
-
Hey Guys, i play on a private server and want to build a base with tents to store my vehicles and Gear, but i have an issue. I have been currently storing stuff on the edges off the map, this current one in Kamenka area. on the FAR edges off the map and the issue is its just not practical, its Too far away to be able to reach without having to spend an hour running to it if i need to.. so my question is. Where do you guys like to build bases, where i can guarantee it will be secure, or give tips on places i should be confident i could hide stuff. -Doug

Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Bat (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I kinda agree on a skill based evolution system as soon as it's not a levelup system. Something like wurm online is doing, the more you do a certain thing the more experimented you become at it. But it should be capped. Let's say your character starts with a value of 1 at any given skill, and can raise it up to 10. Bandaging at lvl 1 will take like 8 seconds, while at lvl 10 you could do it in 4 seconds. Also there could be a chance to fail at bandaging, like at a value of 1 bandaging has 80% chances of success, and 100% success only comes at a value of 5. Some ideas of skills you could grind that way : - Bandaging - Crafting - Repairing/maintaining weapon - Wood cutting - Engineering (repairing vehicles) - Body Strength (would slightly improve both wood cutting, melee attacks, maximum weight) - Running (slightly improve your stamina) - Something related to diseases (when you catch one disease you should be more resistant against this particular disease) So it's not original but if done right I can see that system add some nice depth/authenticity/sense of progress to the game. Oh and I think there should not be any "stat menu" implemented, I think of it more like a hidden feature. -
Hello everyone, I have a different look on the opinion that making guns, food, and vehicles rarer will make the game hard. I find this more unrealistic on the parts of the developers and may make the game more boring. While this is contrary to most other forum posts, please hear me out. In reality if you ran out of food and water on your person, regardless of the situation and environment, you could always get more. However, what if you could make the game darker with more diseases? Most of the posts are asking more more diseases, what I am trying to point out is that if you give each one a special property it will make the game a lot darker, for example, I had my appendix removed in real life because it no likez me, but what if that happened in DayZ? What if you character starts to collapse and die and there is nothing you can do to stop it? Imagine how that would make the player feel? But saying this, I know someone MUST say on behalf of their dynasty that it will make the game suck if you bend over and die all the time, but- A.This mod and soon to be game needs more realism, face it XD B.That is the cruel reality of most near-lethal diseases/illnesses, with or without medical care If this were to be real life, and you drank water from a lake, you would probably get some nasty infection. This is quite real in the sense that if you are near some foundry in Cherno, imagine how much mercury or biomass would be in the water? Imagine in loot tables if you pick up a bandage, and some dude used it without the player knowing, and you get a blood disease. If realism is what the game is aiming for, I personally believe more of this type of feature should be added, rather than more stupid military guns or vehicle monstrosities. Anyway, I thank you for bothering to read my humble post, Majestic

I've come back to Dayz after a several month hiatus (one thing that drew me off was Arma 2 Acemod/Insurgency, which people who just bought this for the one mod should try sometime) and had a very interesting night. For one, I'm finding more and more that sidechat is reenabled, which I feel really does a lot to dissuade shooting on sight and encourages survival coop, making it easier to connect even across map. Now for two, I hadn't experience much in the way of hacker griefing in my previous experience. I guess I was just lucky. The server I spent the night on (a public hive) was just chock full of them. An old buddy I played with before had gotten some vehicles and some gear together, so I felt good to go. We started out with an offroad pickup, ended up wrecking it a bit (I thought I was playing GTA for a second and went straight into a telephone pole because I thought it was made of aluminum foil), but were graciously rescued by a couple of nice folks in Littlebird. I'm fairly sure one of them was hacking; however he was helping people all over the server so we played nice with them. Now hero hacker is attacked, by another hacker, who rages when hero hacker doesn't die. I believe the phrasing he used in his defense was: "You survived the hack and then you teleported!" or something to that effect. Just... really convincing while trying to plead innocence,,,, I continued on with my pal and we found a military offroad at Green Mt. although badly damaged. While I kept destroying wheels on the pickup we never did end up with enough for the military offroad. As we drove on in our arduous search, dmr shots rang out; I skipped out of the truck, and my friend drove it off out of the way, intact (mostly). As I attempted to ascertain the shooter's position, I heard a biplane approaching.. right the f**k over me. The pilot had parachuted and the plane hit the shack I was using as cover. Obviously I was dead. While I re-geared to go north to my body, my friend had acquired his own littlebird (apparently two on the server). He picked me up and took me north, somehow managing in the mere seconds after dropping me off to crash almost directly into me, and to top it off it was genuinely accidental. He felt terrible and helped me regear, a short time later giving me a car ride in the repaired pickup back north to my two corpses. He gives me some of my loot and has to log off. I continue on, stashing my truck and grabbing a little bird, and resume regearing myself. Afterwards I ended giving some folks rides, one who had managed to get lost in the western debug plains. I help the same guy out a bit later, even end up finding him a bicycle to call his own, as a bunch of new people log into the server. My last task for this bambi is to drop him at NW airfield. I begin to fly south to some nice guy who wants to give me his car. I didn't exactly want the car, as I had two vehicles already, but I want to check it out. Before I even get within 2 klicks I'm fairly sure I'm being fired on. Yep. AS50 shots. And littlebirds dont gain altitude very well. Now I'm pretty sure I've encountered hackers before, but this was just too much. I flew dead north to the edge of the map from Green Mt to the debug zone, then all the way east, averaging about 130 kph, and took fire the whole way. I think he hit me once, and my MR went red, thought I was going down, then just kept going. So he must have teleported underneath me repeatedly, right? There were three clan members, who claimed to be friendly, but I dont think they (even if they had spread out beforehand) could have pulled this thing off. No one appeared when I landed, but again, I may have been in a debug zone. So I'm not sure how I got away. Hackers are TERRIBLE shots. But it is hard to miss with a Biplane, at least, right?

What's the best way to keep a sever populated?
Pegz replied to aundre_'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We used the basic DayZ naming ruling for the most part so our server was easy to find and remember. Plenty of vehicles on the coast, a public teamspeak has also been suggested. What has really worked well for us lately is holding scheduled events, bandit convoy(3 suvs loaded with gear via database) drives along the cost for people to assault. Another thing we do is, clans or groups can create a base with buildings that don't spawn loot and I import it into our server so they don't have to just rely on tents and trees to protect their gear. Database back-ups are a MUST with popularity comes script kiddies. I stick to half hour back ups, so in the event of a heavy scripter attack we can just restore the server to its previous state. Make it known who the admins are and make sure one is at the least accessible at reasonable times. The only other thing is advertise on reddit.com/r/dayzservers and other places and if you admin your server fairly and people like your spot they will come over time. -
Regarding the DayZ Taviana SlackerGaming Server
NightViper posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is merely a server review/warning to fellow DayZ players looking for a legit, non-poorly run server to play on. My friends and I have been playing on and off this server for quite some time. The server used to be hosting the map Celle but has recently switched to Taviana. During our experience there, we have encountered quite a few very rude and unfair admins. If they find out that their stuff, often poorly hidden in the woods, has been found and raided, and/or destroyed, they will procede to do a server rollback inorder to get their stuff back. If they do not go forward with the rollback they will immediately spawn back every vehicle they lost. If you were to engage in a firefight with the admins, they will use every aspect of their abilities to find where you are hiding and staged and kill you. If you succeed in killing them, they will do nothing but talk trash and eventually kick you from the server; this has happened many times. If you ask any questions about the rules, an admin will comment in admin chat with some rude comment and tell you to shut up, or in their way of typing "shuddup". I wouldn't normally care however a recent firefight resulting in a kick has made me want to come on here and just give a warning to all those looking for a place to play. They made their way to one of the airports on Taviana and first attempted to ram us with a white plane. Having failed at that, they traveled via the VTOL (MV22) in an attempt to "flush us out". We finally succeeded in killing them after a long battle and they proceeded to spout out rude comments and kick us, but not before saying they never want us in their server again. Use your own judgement on whether or not to play here, this was merely a warning. Standalone/Mod suggestion list to spice things up a bit...
chris_heyward posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hey guys. I have a few suggestions for the standalone and/or mod if the Devs have time to do it. There are alot of issues right now that I see as unrealistic which need to be rectified. To my understanding, I believe the devs wanted this game to be as realistic as possible yet there are alot of unrealistic things. I know some of these things such as ammo and weapons lying about must be allowed or it would break the game but there are others that can be safely removed/changed and it wouldn't change anything on a big-scale. Below is a list of things that I think would benefit the game and make it a little more realistic: Changes: 1: GPS apparently runs without batteries. Same as NVG's and NV/Thermal scopes. Do you see power outlets? These items should have either a limited life or you should have the ability to solar charge its power source. (Solar charger available as rare loot) or find spare parts such as batteries. 2: People should spawn anywhere. Including houses, woods and cities as far north as you can go. This would of course make Cherno and Elektro a little quieter but it would make the other towns/cities more usable unsafe and populated. You should also spawn lying down as if you just awoke from being passed out but that's just my personal opinion. 3: All these broken vehicles but none have electrical issues. All the car batteries and wiring seem to be in immaculate condition even though the rest of the vehicle looks like it has been hit by a train. You should have the vehicle damage include electrical systems and also add a vehicle battery as loot. Maybe also have gunfire and crashes mess with the electrical systems and set off the horn/alarm. 4: Backpack sizes need to be updated to match their visual size. 5: You shouldn't spawn with a backpack or at least make it random. 6: Weapons need to take up less room in the backpack. You can stick an M24 in your pack and it takes up alot but in reality, it wouldn't fit in there. You would have to have it sticking out and therefor it would take up as much backpack room as a 2 Litre bottle of coke. 7: Updated in SA This is my biggie. If nothing else gets added but this, I would still be happy. As you have probably heard before, Zombie movement needs updating. You should be running from slow-ish, brain-dead beings instead of intelligent Olympic Kenyan marathon runners that have only one single memory from their living days and that was the Matrix Bullet-dodge move. Make zeds slower with an increased number. Maybe have the movements like these zeds in this video: . As you can see, they move quite fast still but not OTT like they are now. Right now you can flat out run into these things and rarely need to dodge them as they run at you doing their Matrix moves. If they moved slower then you would have to zig-zag and move around them making them more of a hassle. Maybe add a feature where they can grab you and you have to spam say the fire button button to get loose. Right now zeds are nothing but a hindrance and this needs to be updated.----------------------------------- Additions: 1: Use other vehicles as spares or repairs and removing parts especially the wheels including the trashed ones just lying about. (There is a vehicle near the Stary tents that looks like it would be up and running with a little TLC. I have had dreams at night about driving her with that sexy red interior.) 2: Make the dressers/wardrobes in standalone lootable and that's the main place where you get your clothing from. 3: Namalsk, Panthera etc. etc. map import. 4: Map Editor. 5: Updated in SA TrackIR support for standalone. 6: Realistic firearm effects. Jamming, rifle cleaning. (Did hear it was a confirmed feature but couldn't find the official proof). 7: A movable fuel truck needs to be added. (Primarily once DayZ gets the bases option) Have is so that you have to find a "Big Rig" and travel to its location to hook it up and move it to another location. Also, while it is static, others can syphon fuel from it like it was a standard tank. Anyways, sorry for the wall of text. Could go on all day with features but that would just make this post more of a troll/hater magnet :) -
Chernarus Evolved is a new server, hosted by ChernarusEvolved Team
ChernarusEvolved replied to ChernarusEvolved's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Another update. Added more Heli spawns to the map. There can be anywhere between 1 to 15 helis active at once. There are also some rare Russian attack choppers and US army Apache spawns! Even more vehicles added to the coast for new players!
