Ah so you recomend the use of server ghosting or ghosting like behaviour (server hopping)oh god(slaps forhead) i prefer to log out in a bush way out in the woods but at times because of real life i end up logging out in a building and well instead of ghosting and server hopping i load in on the same server as always and if that means i get killed well guess what i get killed such is life in dayz....

Could be Desync? Or people ghosting? I would report the server anyways :) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/125-servers/ -
Combat Logger / Ghoster Exposed - DUCK YOU IF YOU DO THIS
Combine (DayZ) replied to rippertm's topic in Gallery
Well, of course this guy is sorry after he got caught. At least that could be the case. Most are only sorry if they get caught and called out on it, perhaps in a manner like this. Keep doing that stuff. Combat logging is one thing. It's still annoying and going against gameplay. But if we were to compare, I think ghosting is worse. At least slightly. But hey, it'll be somewhat fixed as soon as private hives are possible. At least, that would be one of a few possible solutions for a server. -
It's called "ghosting" and along with server hopping and combat logging, it will be addressed eventually. Rocket has talked in the past about a logout timer/cooldown/damage penalty to address these issues.

The thing you like the most and the thing you hate the most about the standalone ?
codeX* replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
Like the most: - Zero hackers (that I've noticed). This was my biggest complaint about the mod. - Weapon customization. - Item damage. (Although more items should be found from fresh loot spawns in pristine or worn condition. Most 'badly damaged' items are simply thrown away in real life.) - Huge potential for improvement. Hate the most (I realize most of these will be addressed in the future): - Running 2-3 kilometers only to be reset back to near where I started, but having all controls locked up so I have to Alt-F4 and restart. This happens frequently even on the latest build and is incredibly frustrating. I think it *may* be some sort of anti-cheat detection thinking I've run too far too fast than legally allowed, but I'm simply running long distance without stopping for any reasons. - No respawns. This either means long runs to find any loot, or server hopping. - Almost no weapon variety. - Firearms are "all-or-none" - either you have a very good CQ rifle or high-end sniper (with Long Range scope), or you have a freaking shovel. Definitely need more civilian weapon spawns, especially of the 'starter' firearm variety: Ruger 10/22 and double barrel shotgun are a good start. - No vehicles. Once you're used to making your priority in the mod to find a toolbox, tire, and jerry can to get an ATV moving, running everywhere all the time is incredibly painful. - No tents. This limits reasons to continue finding loot once you've got a good loadout, plus makes respawning more of a pain. - Users ghosting and server hopping, as this seems to be much more frequent than in the mod. - Health/Blood/Hunger/Thirst UI. I prefer the numbers system of the mod.. it makes more sense for what % of a value do you currently feel than waiting for a text message to tell me something vague. As for DayZ in general: What I like: - While the vast majority of the time could be called a running simulator, the 1% of the ultra-high intensity gameplay makes it all worth it. - It's the closest thing we currently have to an open world military simulator. I worked as a software engineer for 7 years on a US Army military simulations system for ground vehicle and RWA (helicopter) training systems. We had thousands of small arms very accurately modeled in both appearance and functionality, and the simulator played very much like DayZ without the looting and zombies. However, PvP was very similar, except the variety in weapons made it extremely fun. - It's not an unrealistic arcade-style shooter like CoD/BF. What I hate: - Melee sucks. Don't force a gimped system when it's clear the engine was designed around firearms. Users should be able to find starter firearms and ammo within 5-10 minutes of playing, and that's simply not the case right now. Here's to hoping the Ruger 10/22 and double barrel shotgun and ammo for both will be found almost as frequently as rotten fruit and burlap sacks. - The public hive. While the idea of the public hive is noble, in reality it has huge disadvantages. It causes significant lag when items are dropped as your current gear 'snapshot' needs to be saved to the hive and the hive has to populate dropped gear to the server. Also, and more importantly, it enables server hopping to re-loot high value areas, along with making ghosting a huge exploit in sneaking up on an enemy's location. I'm looking forward to private hives that play with the default server configuration, but don't have/allow the massive downsides that the public hive system enables. - The animations, while done reasonably well, are too slow for realistic situations. If I'm in a hurry, I'm climbing ladders and vaulting fences MUCH faster than the game's animations. Same for the kneel, prone, stand transitions, or the shift to sprint from standing or jogging, or raising/lowering a weapon. Work needs to be done to speed up these things so they don't feel so clunky in a firefight. - In the mod, some ballistics differences between weapons still needed a lot of work. Also, there is a huge difference in a shooter's ability to fire accurately at medium/long range if they can rest the fore-end of the stock on a fixed object. This doesn't necessarily have to be a bipod. -

Best: Clothing, new enter-able buildings and the expanded map Worst: Ghosting, Server Hopping, and both New Military Bases placement -
If you plan on having a base that you've built from the ground up, you'd have to do that on a private hive, or a private server linked to the main hive. That way ghosting is almost impossible.
-
No.. he wasnt, ghosting... few easy steps, its exploiting not hacking. 1. Disconnect server 1 2. Join server 2 3. Move another location 4. Disconnect server 2 5. Join back to server 1 If it really happened in few seconds could have been glitching or lagging.

Haven't even considered it considering what will change, but I hope that we can place storage units (like tents) in buildings this time. I'd post up in a building...assuming they fix ghosting.

Has anyone else encountered the 'amazing' bandits that camp Balota airstrip?
ninjacalypse replied to ItzNasha's topic in New Player Discussion
I've had people combat log on me when all I had was a baseball bat and running around like an idiot in my underwear...and they actually had guns...go figure. Combat logging/hopping/ghosting are all things slated to be addressed during the development. For now we have to deal with. It basically. -
Then there will be ghosting. Ghosting needs to be stopped too.

Did you ever see a squad of combat loggers?
Slyguy65 replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Let me tell you a story. Kamyshovo is now designated as Combat Log City. So anyway last night at CLC we were getting shot at by 3 different people...all missed....with m4 and mosin mix....it was sad cause we were on a hill that caused us to slow every now and again. Anyway for the next 3 hours we came across MANY other groups just sitting on the two hills sniping/combat logging/ghosting. It was ridiculous, they would sit, wait for noobs and any possibly geared people, then shoot, and combat log INSTANTLY if spotted or shot at, or sometimes after even shooting. Its the most pathatic type of dayz player. And the current system encourages this behavior. But ya in total about 13 people or so were ghosting/combat logging in kamyshovo....in the span of 3 hours on the same server.... I mean I can understand if you are simply travelling to meet someone and combat log so you don't waste time I get that...I do, I don't condone it but I get that. If you are fired upon WITH your group and you just don't feel like fighting I get that don't condone but i get that. BUT, IF you are like the people last night, and sit in wait FOR NOOBS ON THE COAST and shoot at all you see then combat log at the slightest sign of distress....GTFO and get a lit stake and shove it where the sun don't shine cause you are playing the game ALL wrong and I can't wait for the type of people who do that to rage quit when server hopping/combat logging is fixed. -
Basebuilding, combat logging, servers
[email protected] replied to Gdaddy22's topic in General Discussion
i liked your differentiation of cading existing buildings & constructing a new building . im only for cading existing , everything else should be packable like tents , campers or trailers . agree with a logout timer of 30 sec & log in wait of 5 min on "3rd server" , should deter ghosting along with hopping . all imo of course . -

Funny you mentioned Ghosting xD To be honest, as soon as they logged I ran the heck away from where they log. Just hightailed it out of there light Road Runner lol :] -
Should you only have one character per server?
Roshi (DayZ) replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah sure that's an issue. I acknowledge that this isn't a perfect system but it could be better than the current server hopping, ghosting, loot-farming shinanigans. I'm totally open to other ideas to solve these issues but I think this is an option worth exploring. -
This is why I play on private hives only in the mod, no combat logging and no ghosting. The problem is, as long as Rocket keep to his idea of being able to take your character to any server and continue playing on there, this ghosting will continue to occur. Combat logging is easy to fix, just implement the same logout system MMO has been using for ages or Epoch have implemented, a 10 to 30 seconds timer. Your character have to be out of combat and wait 10 to 30 seconds before logging out. If you ALT+F4 then your character will remain in the game for the next 30 seconds and can be killed. Possible solution for ghosting can be to restrict your in game position to servers, so if you go to a new server your character will spawn on the coast or the last position you were at before logging out on that server. But this will force game servers to have an additional database for all the players position, even if players are no longer active. But solving combat logging will at least solve half the ghosting problem, it will still be possible but much much harder to pull off, at least in my opinion.

Why is it so hard to implement a logout timer?
anglo (DayZ) replied to apme123's topic in General Discussion
2 mins is cool, 1 min imo and can only log out in certain areas outside of towns and certainly not inside buildings to stop ghosting and server hopping. -
So there's issues with server hopping for loot and ghosting...but I don't think that's all the exploits that some players get from having multiple servers to pick and choose from. In my opinion, playing on empty servers and so having free run of the map is an exploit, pretty much ghosting but maybe not with combat intentions. It's quite mad to see the number of servers with 1-10 players active on them and only 3-4 full 40/40 servers. So, I'd propose a regional queue. Basically you choose where you want to play (and so get a decent ping) and then the server drops you in the most suitable (explained below) server for that region. If you want to join with friends, you join a lobby together and then sign up. Stops loot hopping: If there's multiple candidates, then it drops you in the server with the least loot in your vicinity (probably the one you just picked dry) Stops combat ghosting: No way of ensuring you go straight back onto the same server, or avoid respawning in the one you just left. Stops the safety of empty servers: You'll be put into a full(ish) server, 20+ players. Additionally (but maybe not possible) if a server drops to under 20 players, it checks the player positions and then gets merged with another half-empty server after ensuring a minimal clash of players between the two so that no-one's gonna drop on another person's head or in their gunsights. Now, this all needs working loot spawns to be implemented first (otherwise everyone ends up in the same place with no loot anywhere) but with the devs working on the server code atm I think it needs considering now.
-
We can expect SKS, Shotgun and .22lr, bug fixes after bug fixes and a server queuing system that should prevent ghosting and server hopping.

here is my 7 sin for standalone IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER ;) #1 combat logging #2 server hopping #3 gamma exploiter #4 ghosting #5 script/hack cheater #6 gear duping #7 admin loot cycle restart player kick abuse all this is unacceptable for me and if you doing any of this i hope you feel maximum shame  so what you think about when you seeing this list? is possible for devs to make fix every one? :) is some we need to accept is here for ever never stop? :| do i miss some? what is worse thing for you guys?

Yesterday, my two friends and me met a group of 3 people that just spawned, we pointed guns at each other, but since they screamed "don't shoot don't shoot", we let them pass. Then after a while they teamed up and attacked us, but since they failed, they cowardly combbatlogged and ghosted to our flank. 2 minutes and 20 mosinshots later, we had 5 m4s and some injuries more. So, no we do not combatlog. We had a lot of fun..what would it have been when logging out..what feeling of success..? NONE I can not understand the point of it.. nore of the ghosting. I never did it in the mod and never will do it in the sa. Because the feeling of being proud of you and your crew that we survived a hopeless fight, plus that rush of adrenalin, is unbeatable. If i'll die, i either deserved it or the player is a glitchusing scum.

A Shift In The Development Philosophy During Alpha
Serious Stan replied to jovlon's topic in Suggestions
I agree. To much items already ingame not working or not working as intended. as it is now its just junk loot. "ghost running" though as you call it is not exactly a glitch. Ghosting is when someoen flanks you using another server then joins back on yours. -
Right, I know what "server hopping" is, but what about...
