The fact that we r out in the woods with so many trivials but no sleeping bag or even a blanket is by itself wrong though. A mechanic that accounts for stamina is going to be introduced eventually, probably when vehicles appear. Sleeping could very well be tied up there. NexVentor I know your snoring bothers my character :p

This was the best video I have seen, Good for him and beans to you. I agree with what was said above; clunky, but definitely better than the mod. I've only played for a couple hours and have gotten my moneys worth, I want to play MORE! The reason they've made the SA is to have a better platform to build off of, along with the newer engine. The mod was very limited in that it was based off the main game, while SA is to a point, but they can do what they please with it. The game costs money for a reason, in that they NEED the money to keep producing it. If you watched Dean at Rezzed, he stated they've hired a whole team dedicated to DayZ, along with more people on their own. They can't develop things with no income, they would go bankrupt and the idea would go to complete shit like WarZ. Ever hear of KickStarter? I'm sure you have. People throw thousands of their money at ideas they like on the website, they might not even receive ANYTHING in return, for their money besides a thanks and the good feeling they get if the idea happens. Without any funding, please tell me where DayZ would be now? Progressing at a slower pace than it is perhaps? Maybe it would be discontinued and you can keep playing the same old, clunky, buggy mod. Would you like that? No offense to the mod, but the first time I started SA, I looked at it and already knew it was 1000 times better, or at least it had the potential to. I can only imagine when vehicles come out: if they're anything like ARMA III's, then they will be awesome. You have to think of the future instead of the present in this game, and in life in general. Yeah, you have to think when a bandit's taking potshots at you, but if you thought clearly ahead, you wouldn't be in that situation, would you? Good luck quitting SA forever since you feel you've been cheated, unlike I'm sure most of the 1.9 million people that have bought it I believe.

EXACTLY! Thats what happen they saw their famous Mod (which was free) can rake in the $$$. Heres a story, Valve Bought Counter strike from modders long ago, they didnt make a paid SA for it, they kept it free, Then came Half-life 2 and Counter:Strike Source, again the mod was free, CS: GO is the first one to come out as a SA and I think it's because CS: source is outdated and there is no Half-Life 3. CS:Go was always cheap $15, Conclusion: fair, not a cash grab. Cash Grab = Trying to make money with little effort, such as poor sequels to great games/movies in an attempt to cash in on the actual title as opposed to the quality of the work. Like those games that come out at the same time a movie, for example The amazing spiderman 2 currently. The game is poor, but it will still sell due the the combination of the Movie in theatres now. Kids will want it, parents will buy it, etc. (hence why it's all kiddie games) Why I am leaning on the cash grab idea: They basically took the Arma III engine, which they already had. They took the Arma II elements which they already had. They took the DayZ mod elements which they already had. They mashed it all like this and sprinkled some updates since Dec 2013. I've seen Rockets road map to the end of 2014 at which point they hoping this game will be live. The road map is not very impressive, I won't outline all the things that were mentioned but there is no big game changer in there, what you see now is what you're going to basically get with some extra items thrown in such as vehicles, loot and animals for cooking, few other things go check it out yourself. FACT: people are still going to PVP, I mean seriously you think they going to all hold hands together and go kill zombies in an engine that cannot support a lot of AI characters? Forever dedicated PVP zones. That is DayZ. They could already make this game a 10 times more fun if they just removed dedicated Weapon spawns (airfields, military bases, tents), Why not just give every house a very low % of spawning a weapon so that every house... every location... is worth checking, and looting and exploring?

First, in regards to 'having so many supporters it should go faster' thoughts, no, it really shouldn't; not outright anyway. They hired a new studio, which has sped up development; this much has been mentioned in dev videos (the one just now posted above me.) - but money oddly isn't a miracle speed potion when it comes to games, it helps tremendously, but even throwing five hundred million at DayZ wouldn't make it come out in six months in any reasonable state, it's just not in the cards. The other studio as I recall is the one's that coded in physics and the crossbow and the like, I imagine the main team is working on the engine code more than anything regarding the servers and x64 structure / netcoding / optimization and server resource handling (which depending, will resolve some hacking issues in itself, if they take away more of the local processing and set that on the server instead). Those are far more important than outright hunting hackers in this stage of the game, fixing the security flaws/anti-hack protection is more a late alpha, and beta stage issue save game-breaking bugs/security flaws (eg. capability to cause a server crash via in game exploiting or altering packets; that level of a issue generally takes priority). Going to post a lazy wiki reference to clarify remarks about fixing bugs in alpha.. Naturally it's not a all encompassing fact of the stages (specially in DayZ which pretty much has the spotlight on them forcing at least to some extent 'more' of a priority in bug fixing and making the game 'more fun' for alpha testers than they likely otherwise would be), each game is developed differently, but it is a general guideline. Most of your complaints, including referencing hackers (generally exploiters, not hackers.. but true hacking is easier during alpha and even beta stage, eg. putting more of the game to be run server side than client side will help deter hackers, as well when things are more stable being able to monitor oddities and detect hackers; all that comes later, we're lucky battle-eye is in at all) are all 'issues' to be attacked AFTER major content is in. Alpha Alpha is the stage when key gameplay functionality is implemented, and assets are partially finished. (Naturally what comes with key gameplay functionality is a ton of bugs - and plenty of loopholes to exploit - wherein no or little testing was put in to work out the quirks quite yet making it vulnerable to every kind of issue; from breaking down entirely, causing crashes to exploiting flaws for your benefit.) Beta Beta is feature and asset complete version of the game, when only bugs are being fixed. This version contains no bugs that prevent the game from being shippable. No changes are (generally) made to the game features, assets, or code. (Also the phase most people are expecting DayZ to be in, or at least late into the alpha just before beta, which it's not.) In the end, there is a reason it had bold print not to buy the game yet. Games that are still in alpha stage are always (if truly in alpha stage and not just claiming to be) barebones lacking any real entertaining content, FULL of bugs (a lot of which in alpha are game breaking.) and it's not until all the major features are implemented (we're a long way off from that) that issues most people talk about become a priority. In DayZ's case, they'd get cooking, hunting, stealth, zombie AI (slight improvements getting the code to register stealth and other factors but not truly 'working' in the sense it feels right, just that it functions on a coding level or at least not bug free), sicknesses, vehicles, physics, range of weapons, controlled zones, netcode optimization, server optimization, so on' (but with plenty of bugs, game breaking including no doubt) in DayZ - work toward getting those features polished (but still buggy at times) until all the features were done and could be called functional before they developers would normally start churning out any substantial fixes and balancing for any of it (late alpha). It's just not a priority at this point in a normal alpha aside from major server corrupting, game crashing issues that prevent testing of the rest of the content. But then again.. each patch is going to prove this wrong, since the community is so up in arms about fixes and hackers they'll end up compelled to shift priority away from major content toward appealing to those that expected a gaming experience, not a testing one; tis' why they have their own team with an internal server away from everyone else to tackle bug hunting, that gets shifted onto experimental servers for 'semi' public testing : so the rest of the community avoids the major brunt of the issues. Every problem can't all be ironed out right away and end up on the 'stable' servers.

If you have access to Mysql you could check the world spaces of all your vehicles, If by chance they are all around the same area, it could be debug, or near it. try moving your character there. Easiest way to see if a hacker moved them there is boats having the same/similar world space as say a tractor or SUV.. If you move your character there and they're all moved/teleported by a hacker, you can either drive them, move them with mysql/admin tools or, Give yourself a satchel charge and well.. You know the rest.

another suggestions: - I went to the end of the map months ago and the abrupt cut, from a living area to a "nothing" area is...ugly. The last ~1000m of the map should be a fallout area - dead trees, bones, fog, crashed/destroyed cars, maybe some houses far away and everything is burned down. But it should only be a visible thing. So there is not protection agains the radioactivity - no clothes or later vehicles. If you enter this part of the map you should die in seconds. Before you can get to the wasteland everywhere is barbwire (with broken parts) or walls and signs which caution you against entering this area.

This story is invented by you. The map was taken from the game Arma II. There are NATO vehicles in Russian military bases.

There are US vehicles. Humvee wrecks are pretty common.
-
If that were the case I wouldnt care as much about finding US weaponry. I think they should represent that a bit more visually though, perhaps like CDF and US flags together at bases to show the alliance or going on the theory that there are US bases it would be nice to see some US vehicles lying around. I suppose for me it's just a case of having a little back story.

I find all kind of shouting annoying. Everyone knows it is alpha and everyone knows it has serious problems in current state but stating those facts in every other thread only wastes internet space and gets on everyones nerves. I am all over calm discussions as they are much more productive. Well, for me at least. I doubt any dev cares about my discussions. But that isn't even important for me. Positive interaction gives much more and get to know and talk new people. I agree. There shouldn't be strictly limiting any playstyle in favor of balance but creating similar options for all. Most important thing I see in this game is that it would follow the freedom of choice path. I can do whatever I want with my life, or even others if it becomes mine to decide in situation. But making the atmosphere authentic for all kinds of people. Scarace of weaponry, ammunition, shelter, vehicles like you would expect from a place that turned to wasteland. The need of maintenance for parts of equipment in order to keep it working and so on. I would see helicrashes as an option if they spawned the gear other than weaponry but high value for survival. Specific medical supplies that would be pain to find otherwise, character customization equipment that would be exclusive to crashsites, maybe food rations that are more efficient than can of beans and milk powder that you usually find. Radios, GPS, maps, protection gear and so on, so forth. Not sure how that would look like.

We don't need professions. You'll have plenty to occupy yourself when Base building and vehicles come in play.

At this time, the game is a huge KoS fest due to lack of content like vehicles and tents. But since there are so many visual and gunplay improvements, I have to say it still is quite entertaining, despite of how bland it is compared to the mod. Mind you, even though SA is fun, the mod is still miles ahead.

DayZ Mod: Getting Back Into The Saddle! Please read the description!
drjuanitor posted a topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I finally played DayZ Mod again with a good friend from past videos, and we killed shit and wrecked vehicles. Unfortunately, my obs crapped on me and only got some of the footage without any of my audio. So i placed some music in there and uploaded what i was able to get! So please enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szh8heA23JQ -
Came back because friend from Steam is pushing me to play this with him tonight and wanted to see if there were other responses, glad to see there are. I won't judge the game itself too harshly during this extent, at least not until months later (or next year) when vehicles are hopefully added and the population in game is similar to what it was in DayZ Mod's prime age. Interesting to hear about "persistent objects" being added towards the end of May. Hopefully tents are added to that. Checked out the change log, really cool to see that they're getting more blueprints and crafting going, as well as fixing (and at least acknowledging) a good portion of bugs that arise. EDIT: Also, what's happening in 5 months?
-
What an awesome person. I wish the rest of this community would share your outlook. :) It'll probably be some time before vehicles, but you *may* want to return sometime after the end of May as there should be persistent objects (tents), hunting, campfires, and a few other cool features. There's already a bullet based physics system that allows you to throw objects which lead to the crossbow and craft-able bow, though the bow needs some finishing touches. Oh and loot will soon respawn (already did on the last exp update).

Yeah that billboard has been in since Chernarus came out in 2009. Sahrani was the main map in the Original Arma game or Operation Flashpoint if you're an old-timer. Sahrani was an amazing map probably better than Cherno IMO, too bad it never caught on for the mod, the map was so fun for the week that it was popular. I'd love to see Sahrani adapted to standalone, but let's get tents and vehicles first hehe.

I decided the way I made MY OWN server was going to implement all the good things I saw on other servers. I wanted to create it in the vision that you can have lots of scripts and mods, useful ones. Create a higher need for the currency in the game. Make it more like an RPG. Have something to do all the time. With new weapons, added vehicles, and balance in mind I created it. It doesn't feel like I'm in an apocalypse?
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) replied to oanj's topic in General Discussion
Roadblock for what? Zombies driving cars? Whats not to get? Poor = poor = not enough or little to no resources. A lot of the towns have no fire protection, grocery stores, hardware stores, etc etc etc. Hardly any buses, old wooden boxcar trains, not a single school, no municipal vehicles and who knows how far away an industrialized region is. Furthermore, why would a broke country spend what little money they have on an even more broke down farming region? They wouldn't and that's why there isn't any. Chernarus is a fictitious region based on locations in Czech Republic so there is no way to cross-reference real economical data anyway. Therefore, we can only deduce an economy based on its components which as stated above...are lacking. Also, Chernarus could have gotten over-run in no time flat which could easily explain why there was no attempt at NATO/UN send relief. When a region is unprepared for a natural disaster or etc, relief takes time...a few days at the least for relief to be on site. This happens in the US all the time. Maybe the infection hit too fast for anyone to take on such measures. Some of these towns look like they have a population of a couple dozen to a couple hundred with the bigger cities having a population of a few thousand at best. Not enough resources, not enough hands, not enough time. Shit could hit the fan and turn any one of those regions upside down in 24-48 hours. Folks would be too busy scrambling for their lives. You see the televisions and radio's in the houses? Those radio's look like their from the 70's. I can easily see the infection hitting and a farmer grabbing some essentials before literally running for the hills. Also, whats cutting down a tree going to do? -

Is the DayZ mod still heavily populated? Steam has a great sale on Arma 2 so i was wondering.
wmike20052 replied to wmike20052's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Update, im having tons more fun with the mod then i did with Standalone. Sure it sucks that most building arent open and you cant really customize your character, but the fun is there. You can hop in a server with vehicles everywhere and start with a gun, or vice versa. The different maps add variety too. I wouldnt completely say it kills the SA, but its def a breath of fresh air. Recommend it if you can get the Arma 2 and CO for cheap. -
Hey Finally about to download DayZ SA but i have some questions. 1)Is there a way to save gear like before, as in tents or bases? 2)Any vehicles playable yet? 3)Lots of cheaters/hackers? 4)More or less zombies than the previous mod, or the same amount? 5)Is FPS a bit better in this standalone version? Thanks in advance !!! Really looking forward to replies 2B
