Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557
colinm9991 replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
One of these is needed again for the many idiots on here... The developers are adding more content so that by time the beta or release come then all content will be in the game and all will be bug free. This allows the developers to add content and repair or work on previous and present bugs, as opposed to working on bugs, adding content, then working on content bugs. IT'S A FASTER PROCESS, VEHICLES ARE NOT IMPORTANT. Even though everything is pretty much a placeholder still; go eat as much as you can, and now push yourself to eat more, see what happens. -

i don´t really get the " WE NEED VEHICLES QQ" kids... do they think that they will spawn, see a car, hop into it and drive around ??? did they ever play the vanilla mod ? do they have ANY idea how hard it was and will be to find a car AND repair it ?? i remember when we (3ppl) found our first car and tried to repair it. it took us HOURS to get the parts to the car and repair it. when we did repair it we were shot after driving it for 5mins because everybody hears you from miles away. the tears when cars are introduced to the SA will be hilarious. i am so looking forward to the rage / QQ threads :) -

Look, mate, you are essentially an alpha tester. You bought the game to test it, not to play it to its full potential right away. You had warnings in Steam before buying, you have a warning in the game every time you start it. If you think you know how to make a game better than the developers, go ahead and make a bloody game. The developers have already set their priorities and those are based on actual knowledge about how to make a game. They are not making a game for a certain bobotype3434 to enjoy right now. They are making a game that can be enjoyed at its fullest as soon as possible, but without any game breaking bugs. If they follow your posts and add vehicles right now, they might come up with certain issues. And, of course, the alpha testers would be testing something that is not really needed to be tested (the basic cars which are not final, like you said. Why would they add something placeholder if there's no need for it?). The developers are developers for a reason. They know what they're doing, so stop being selfish and look at the bigger picture here. If you think you can make a better game, I encourage you to do so. -
Played Vanilla on US264, on the Mod.. was a Hero with 11k humanity, and a lot of map control via Heli's and Vehicles.. Ran with a squad of Heroes, and while we could be trusted more than the average player, we were still a THREAT, unlike what someone above suggested.. Last group of players you want to jerk over or piss off is a squad of Heroes. Also had -400,000 humanity on a Private Hive server, where I practiced PVP.. Most DayZ survived on my Hero: 21. Most Players killed on my bandit: >20 in 1 life.

I disagree, they are adding throwable objects and vehicles and I am a person that likes helping people out and not getting shot so I help from the skies. Edit: punctuation.
-
Ummmm ... noooooooooooo ... ... lets get it right ... So what exactly is wrong with his suggestion when there are going to be vehicles of some sort and Heroic players might want to help newer players. How about you try to be more constructive next time and not just have a brain fart.
-
This guy is the most unnecessary angry lil' douche bag to have ever posted on these threads ... That is all hahaha (it's late and I'm bored) Still I say NO Pve until private hive control debate is figured out also it won't happen until environmental disasters, base building ,vehicles and zombie hordes are implemented because like ass hat in the quote said, it's pointless to have Pve the way dayz is now .

This Is To Help Companies That Rent Out Servers To Players.
blackberrygoo replied to Robert Millette's topic in Suggestions
This ^^ dayz has an economy just like any other game , overly configurable control panels for server owners will lead to biasing the game in a direction the devs (dean / Bohemia interactive ) didn't plan on . As an example , vehicles come out and lets say someone owns a server and it them put 500 vehicles and 2 times the amount of loot and replaces common loot with military ( dunno if this would ever be possible , but it's just an extreme example ) this would unbalance the game to where it truly is a combat simulator again , Instead of the "zombie simulator " the devs were hoping for . So I get it , video game buyers want their game to be configured any way they like if they also pay extra for a server , but this is an age of new experiences and opportunities , but just because we have a great game like dayz that allows us to rent our own servers , and a fat pocket full of cash , doesn't mean we deserve to change it to a tee. Like Said above video games have economies of sorts and to change what a game is about ( amount of vehicles , amount/ quality and quantity of loot ) is to change the game , Not to mention the admin abuse as stated in quote .Maybe waaaaay down the line like in 2 years they should do this if they need a to renew interest in dayz If people somehow lose interest but as for right now or in the near future we don't need this -
Almost everything you've suggested has been either touched on or is a work in progress. Rocket has mentioned farming, however planting trees would be very unrealistic, unless you take a graph/clone from a currently fruiting tree it will take years for it to grow before it even produces fruit. I believe the K98 has been shown around a couple of times (back when they were doing closed testing and a model of it 'leaked'). I don't think snow can really be done 'right' with the engine currently (IE snow won't pile up on the ground). Vehicles will come when their new form works and is stable.
-
All good ideas , I would love to see them Implemented . Unfortunately this has been suggested before and the devs will most likely add this stuff waaay later :( but in about six months or so I can definitely see these ideas/features start to come into the game , because by then mostly all the architecture / server / loot / zombies problems will be fixed , and apparently dean has slated the updates for barricades and vehicles within the next six months as Long as everything goes as planned . Long run-on sentence finally being said , these features could defly ( in my opinion ) be added after the six months of updates and engine fixes said to come .
-
An interesting idea that likely would not take a huge amount of implementation, really just adding some static assets like tents, vehicles, and roadblock signs to an area. It could turn previously "meh" little towns in central Chernorussia into something worth investigating.

Duplication exploit - need for global wipe?
deepfried replied to frosti's topic in General Discussion
Character wipes aren't really necessary, just fix the dupe bug and the rest will work out in time. its not like people can horde duped loot in tents or vehicles. -

no sir, you get over yourself. exactly where was i stating that vehicles should be priority? please point it out Mr. smart man. and YOU are WRONG, because if you take a look back to famous, well known zombie apocalypse movies, or any authentic apocalypse movie (well, as authentic as it can be, since no one knows what the apocalypse will be like) cars are everywhere. even years after the initial outbreak. and in REALITY, which obviously is a hard thing for you to grasp, cars need operators in order to move. well, with no people around to operate them, exactly where would they magically make off to hmm? answer that one for me smartman. broken down, destroyed, covered in plant life, rusted ect. but they are still very much there. So yes, REALISTICALLY there would be an abundance of vehicles, just not WORKING vehicles. Obviously you lack the ability to think logically. and the fact that you took the post out of context, without really knowing what the hell your talking about, shows that you were simply here only to troll. well, if your going to troll, go read a book or something, gain some knowledge, that way you actually know what your talking about rather than spitting out senseless BS. -
You want to see plans? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ I certainly don't see DayZ the way you've explained. My goal is not to arm myself and go kill players. My goal is simply to survive. Sometimes I approach people, sometimes I observe them, sometimes I run from them. I've yet to shoot at anyone, but some day I might have to do that too. I didn't want to start listing off things that I do in-game because everyone's tastes are different, and I don't really feel like defending things I feel are fun(Which is what those lists always amount to). Maybe the only thing you can find fun is killing other players. That's fine, but if that gets boring and you can't find anything else to entertain yourself, I don't think the game should constantly reward your survival, in order to keep you interested in playing.(Which is what this thread implies) I think people are expecting too much from "more". I fear a lot of people expect that new features will give direction to this game. But, from what I've read and heard on the subject, the additions will only enhance what is already here. It will increase difficulty and increase the amount of work we have to do, but the game is always going to be basic, there's always going to be nothing to do except what you decide to do. Hunting, cooking, vehicles, those things are not going to add in anything major, they just extending the scavenging & movement gameplay we already have. Increased medical difficulties, if anything, will make suicide even more attractive. More items to loot will just keep us looting over and over. To answer your question, yes, this is how I like DayZ to be. Basic, but open ended. A real sandbox without direction, without instruction, without mercy or reward. But, I'm not your average gamer. I've never liked things like achievements, or skill trees. Never been a fan of friendly fire protection, aim assist, or an intrusive HUD. I played games like minecraft for hours and hours, without mods, without other players, just screwing around doing my own thing, do whatever struck me as fun. I would rather tinker around with a mob spawner for hours than to run through some 'on rails' single player campaign. I'm an extreme team player in most games, but when it comes to DayZ I don't even use teamspeak, I don't even play this game with my friends. I've taken to the role of survivor, embraced the environment and all its limitations. I make real dayz friends as an individual, in the game, not because they're a key to my fun, but because they're sharing my virtual world, they're in this same meat grinder, trying to keep the red in.

What do we really want as far as Character Progression?
zhrike replied to crimsonbzd's topic in Suggestions
The only kind of persistence I'd like to see are traits that 1) are in line with a character surviving (like BEARDS!), and 2) that have no effect aside from aesthetics. Once your character dies, you should start from scratch, otherwise: permadeath loses its luster. I have mixed feelings about tents and bases, too, though I've used them (and vehicles) in the mod. -
DayZ is a great game. I love it. In this game I am more emotionally involved than in any other game I have ever played. But there is one aspect I have to disagree with... Now it may sound ridiculous, but DayZ is no survival game and it never has been. What?! DayZ no survival game? But there is hunger, you can die of thirst and all that kind of stuff! It is super realistic! Now hear me out, I will explain why DayZ is no survival game very soon, be patient. Examples You are Herberd, a guy who is running through the woods far, far in the north. You are hungry, you are thirsty. You survived for 200 hours, because you are a careful person. You don't have any ammunition for your weapon and your gear is mostly ruined. A friend is calling you "What's up man? I am at the coast, let's meet up!". Your friend at the coast? You would have to run hours to reach him. So you think: "What am I going to do?". Well, there is a simple solution, isn't there? You go climb up a tower and jump off the roof... YOU ARE DEAD. You respawn. You are Janine, a woman who survived for 500 hours. You are a very skilled person. You know how to survive any combat situation. You use an M4 and really common gear. When you run up the stairs of a building you fall and break your right leg. The next hospital is far away, it would take you hours to limp over there. Instead of crying for help, you go on the roof and jump down... YOU ARE DEAD. You respawn. You are Mohammad, a guy who is always friendly to everyone. You survived for 1000 hours, your friendlyness is impressiv. But one thing you hate is other people telling you what to do. You walk along the coast. A group of 4 people is running straight at you. You never carry a weapon, so nobody shoots you on sight. Your are so funny that you managed everyone that engaged you to just leave you alone. They tell you to stop. You make some jokes, but it seems they don't care about you. They tell you to drop your pants. Dropping your pants? You won't do this, you are a proud Mohammad and you would never do such a dishonorable thing. So you tell them "Go f*ck yourself", you are not kind anymore. One of the guys shoots you in the leg "DROP YOUR F*CKING PANTS AS*HOLE!", you have nothing to lose. No weapons, no gear, nothing. You simple tell them "Go on, kill me.". YOU ARE DEAD. You respawn. You are Jack, you heard DayZ is a survival game. You start playing it. You find some gear, food and everything you need to survive. You run around in unpopulated areas so you don't get killed. You do that for 5 hours. Boring. Why are you doing it? There is no point is surviving. You decide to go to the coast and expirience something exciting. YOU ARE DEAD. You respawn. I think you get the point. DayZ is no survival game because there is no point in surviving. If a player tries to survive at all costs, he will realise that the game is just boring. A life is simply worth nothing, the only thing there is are weapons, vehicles and houses. And as soon as you can store them, people will go maniac because they cannot lose anything if they die. A veteran character does not differ from a fresh spawn character. But let us assume that there was a point in surviving. What would happen? If survival was more important than obtaining gear etc., people wouldn't run around the coast or hotspots. They would populate the whole map just to not encounter so many people. But as they do it, encounters will get more rare but also more unexpected. You are more likely to encounter a player at Shakhovka, because he will think the same as you think "I will go there because nobody is there". He wants to survive just like you, but you may encounter unwillingly. Secondly people will act way more authentic. If I have a broken leg, I won't simply kill myself, I will do whatever I have to to survive. And if I have a 100 hours character, I may even kill my friend just to survive. These things happen in real life, but no way it would happen in DayZ. If you look at a character you spent weeks on, it may change the perspective of some players. But how do we add the urge to survival, no matter what? The only way to do that, in my opinion, is adding a value to a characters life (obviously). And how to we do that? The only way is progression, meaning that the more you play a character, the more valuable he is. If I have a 100 hours character he is more valuable than a 10 hours character. The most important question now is, how do we manage that? How do we add a value to a character? What would a player really care about? Solutions? Statistics: It could show your friends how long your survived. But I don't think that would solve anything. How many people actually care about statistics, especially in a game like DayZ? Appearance: Your character could change his look the longer he survives. Not a good option in my opinion. Who cares about looking like a survivor? And more importantly, how do you want to differ a 100 hours character from a 1000 hours character? Skills: This is the only way to go in my opinion. The more you do something, the better you get in it. The more you craft things, the more chance you have to craft prestine things. The more you treat wounds, the less likely it is that you make a mistake while doing it. The more you repair engines, the more likely you are to repair a helicopter. etc. Problem with this is, you have to balance it. We don't want immortal super soldiers, but the additions have to be good enough to add a real value to the character. It has to be more valuable than a really rare weapon. Doing something faster is not enough, because people don't really need that. They will still risk their lifes and do stupid things, I mean who cares if something is taking you 10 seconds or 9? And the other thing is, if someone survived for 500 hours, hasn't he deserved a really good boost? I would give such a person the ability to shoot like a robot. Problem I am talking about is that the more your survive the better has to be the reward. If you survived 100 hours or 500 hours you want to feel the difference, otherwise it gets pointless and boring to survive longer. ???: ??? If you have ideas for solving this problem, for adding value to a character, go on and present it right here. I think this is the most important part for the game to change. We have to find a solution, or we will never have a survival game as Dean Hall intended it to be from the beginning. (I know there have been similar threads like that, and I made one about character value myself, but in this one I wanted to point out what is wrong about DayZ in its current state)

What will make you play the alpha again?

this would get really annoying when vehicles/bases get added. killed after restart = unable to play for 4 hours

hypergolem replied to Igglas Cage's topic in General Discussion
I give you all my beans! I so agree with you. It is sad reading the forums and see that most of the people don't care about the zombies at all. Everybody is talking about guns, more guns, vehicles, tents, clothing... At this point they could take away the zombies completely and nobody would even notice... -
Vehicles Base Building More weapons I'm sure by the time that happens I wont be playing much though.

1) Some sort of permanent storage, like the mod's tents. 2) lots more zombies and all loot locations spawning (the amount of loot is fine, I just want it spread out over all the possible locations). 3) Vehicles. -

DAYZ Standalone VS. ARMA 2 MOD version
scaramoosh replied to nickaepi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yet it's worse in most ways... - Melee is worse, people claim it is better, but it fucking sucks, they've just made it feel unresponsive and hard to hit anything - The controls are the same.. I don't get why people claim they're different, they have that quick jump thing now, however it's hit or miss if it does the quick one or the slow one. - The health system sucks, the mod is way better - I'm indifferent to the inventory, to me they've just replaced one poor system with another - Whitelisted servers sorted hackers, besides I rarely saw them in the mod any ways. - Better guns? No... there is only like 3 and tbh they feel better in the mod. The new server system is worse, there is never any loot around, the zombies are worse... in fact where are the zombies? There are no vehicles, far fewer items and performance is worse in SA than the mod, especially using Haswell's iGPU which most laptops use now. Weird how the Mod I get 20-30fps and the SA I get 8fps on it, I since bought 670 to tide me over as I didn't want to spend loads with Maxwell around the corner, I get such poor FPS on the SA. All this server bullshit they've done has been a waste, no one cares, the mod worked just fine, all it has done is made the game worse. I don't get why there hasn't been any major patches since release, what is taking them so long? All the content is there, just put it back in! We need vehicles, just put flick the switch and put them there, I don't want them to be overhauled, so far all that has done is made things worse. People say oh it's an alpha, well they already had a base game to build upon, SO WTF WENT WRONG? I bet Dean is just laughing his way to the bank. -

Vehicles. I put my foot down and will not play the SA what so ever until Vehicles are added.
