Just how far out into the Debug Plains can you go?

Even in the mod you could do that. Tents and vehicles outside the map dissapeared on reset, not inmediately on crossing the border.
  3. Karmaterror

Just how far out into the Debug Plains can you go?

In the mod ya could build out there, and store cars ect. Our server had to have some custom cleanup thing done that respawned any vehicles left there on restart. We had a cheeky group flying the heli off map to store it lol. Id bet the SA will have something built in to combat that :)
  4. Shopping carts! Love it!! From memory of the conversation, the "persistant storage containers" refer to what in the mod are known in the form of tents, vehicles or safes (Dayz Epoch). In standalone, it was mentioned these will be backpacks. It may (MAY) take the 1st form as backpacks dropped on the floor with loot inside them. I would imagine empty backpacks are wiped and backpacks with loot in will stay. Obviously performance wise these may need a timer where any backpacks that are untouched for a certain amount of time are deleted otherwise everyone will be running on a floor of backpacks after a month!

    DayZ SA Trains?

No. I really hate people like this. The survival rate for players is too low due to all the KOS for anybody at all to enjoy a working train if it requires literally, minimum by the statement "weeks", FOURTEEN DAYS of gameplay at the least to even get working when you can expect to be able to repair a car to basic functionality in a day. Nobody would even use the fucking train at that rate because it's on-rails and yet takes supposedly the same fuel cost as a car. Even if player life expectancy was longer, WEEKS of repair is an unrealistic and unfair expectation. Nobody took the train to pieces and ripped its engine apart, it didn't have a collision with a fixed object as smashed cars presumably would have. It just came off the rails and landed on its side. With enough vehicles to tow it, you could align it back on the rails. Then you get the motor running. No problem. That would take time to collect the vehicle parts and rebuild them [three cars needed?] haul the train [30 minutes IRL getting it back on rails if you have something to brace it on], fuel the train and chug up and down the coast. Fixing a train should take no longer than a 2 day effort on your own, and even shorter with assistance.

    The kneecapping pandemic

Being crippled out in the middle of nowhere without the means to heal yourself is a very frustrating thing to happen - and should be addressed in some way by the devs, because it is a gameplay problem. You cannot just say to people, "Tough luck, go crawl somewhere and find some morphine you big girl's blouse." The number of players who will be willing to spend an hour or two of pure tedium and frustration actually doing this is very small, I'd imagine - most sensible people would rather just give up with the game altogether (or, worse, come onto this forum to rant about it and in turn be slagged off for being 'weak' by the macho dickheads who live here.), which would be a shame. I don't like the idea of a respawn button that can be used at any time, though. Suicide is an option, and crawling towards a tall building or waiting to starve yourself unconscious is not the only way of doing it currently: off the top of my head, you can eat rotten fruit to become sick or drink disinfectant, both of which are quicker as long as you have the necessary materials - but the problem remains if some evil bastard has robbed you down to your underwear and left you restrained and crippled in the back of beyond. Perhaps there does need to be more methods for taking your own life, so the more impatient among us can give up on the situation if they choose to. Drowning? Eating poisonous plants? Attracting the attention of zombies and/or predatory animals like wolves or feral dogs? The best solution, I feel, would be to introduce more ways to solve the problem in game, using the mechanics and the environment around you. For this to work, there needs to be more useable items more commonly spread around - so you can, for example, find wood for splints or crutches in patches of woodland, or perhaps make some kind of painkilling medication out of plants and berries? I'd also like the ability for another player to carry or drag injured people towards a safer location (or even build a stretcher?). Vehicles should help with this as well - maybe use a bicycle or an old pram as a sort-of zimmer-frame? I don;t know what they could do in the immediate term, but those are the sorts of things I'd like to see eventually.
  7. Well to be honest, after being someone who only recently found and started browsing the DayZ Forums from using Reddit, so far its like going from one server where everyone just KoS's, to a new server where players are friendly and give you gear! Thanks for the compliment But yea, if I think of anything more which we discussed (apart from him cooking his Chicken) I'll bring it up, but to be honest the important stuff has already been covered. I kind still feel vehicles will be roughly 6months before coming into the game, even though Rocket said this was a very conservatve guess.
  8. I don't give a good god ---- how anyone plays their game, but people like this make me sad for the human race. "Ooh, I drink your tears." Whatever, you friggin' dork. You certainly don't scare me, and don't build any more tension in my game than any other player, but if telling yourself this stuff makes you feel cool and special, have at it. People that break into houses certainly help sales at gun stores, but you wouldn't see the burglar trying to convince the owner that it's helpful as he's robbing him. Well, maybe if you were the burglar... As to the OP: Obviously, deranged abuse victims aside, as they add more content to the game, the rate of KoS will drop as players will be spending more time building bases, making friends and alliances, and otherwise exploring the world of Chernarus. Boredom and overreaction are the leading causes of death in Chernarus, not try hards like this guy. Most people I've talked to outside of the airfields have been totally friendly. I certainly wouldn't trust any of them, but you don't have to trust someone to not murder them or be murdered by them. Granted, I don't take any crap and have been known to waste a person for only replying with a middle-finger, but I would say it's more like a third of players will attempt some kind of betrayal, given the opportunity, and usually it's not a very skilled attempt. I never want to say "I'm not having this problem ergo it must not exist," but it's kind of instinctive for me to assume that people claiming ridiculous statistics like 90% OF EVERYONE KoS ROKET PLZ are simply doing something, or more likely several things, horribly wrong. Balota, on the other hand, is a sucker's bet and will remain so until vehicles and server-side storage become reliable, which should move most of the better equipped PvP seekers and clans out into the rest of the map. If you don't like being shot, GO NORTH. If that gets boring, and it almost certainly will eventually, go and RISK GETTING SHOT. At this stage of development, that really is all there is to it. TL;DR quoted person is a tool. To the OP: 1.0 build will not have this problem to the point that (non-idiotic) bandits really will build tension. ALPHA! :p

Which vehicles would you want to see in DayZ?

I just hope they are slow rubbish heavy cars what used really poor parts and need to be repaired a lot, communist aren't known for making good cars apart from their big military vehicles.
  10. Vehicles and base building alone could accomplish some of the same effect. However that's the carrot. Psychological health system is the stick. Bear in mind that even the 'stick' won't actually STOP someone from wandering around killing everyone they encounter, nor is it meant to. I don't want to regulate behaviour in a game which is about choice. But if you're going to have freedom to choose what you do, you should also have the freedom to suffer the consequences of your choices. Given that this is embodied in the game in every other sense, hunger, thirst, injury etc, the lack of a psychological health system leaves it unbalanced. So no, this won't stop the cities being a deathtrap, it won't stop bands of bandits roaming around. Nor will it stop some people from killing everything they see. But it will ensure that this takes place in a more plausible manner.
  11. Ok, then. We'll get that without the need for mental health mechanics. Vehicles and base building will almost certainly require teamwork. Increased zombie counts may encourage it too, depending on how they are implemented (hint: making every zed on the map converge on a gunshot encourages stealth, and lone wolves are stealthier). I'd be very surprised if any of that ended the Elektro deathmatch, but that's just one place in the map.

    Confused Rant #1

I recommend watching streams and checking reddit. These forums are odd and difficult to track down specific information. The 'game' is currently in VERY early Alpha. Many features are not working yet. Its a shorter list of whats mostly working. Eating, can opening, broken legs, splints, some medical supply's, guns, melee weapons, most in-game items that dont involve 'crafting/cooking'. Loot currently only respawns on server restart. There are many bugs. Up next is more stable servers, higher FPS, weather, some kind of hunting and cooking. After that I believe it will be re-spawning zombies and loot. Than vehicles and item storage. But none of this is directly confirmed.
  13. Our group of 3-5 want to add more. We play on 3480, 3533 and 434 servers. We play several hours a day at varies times and you can usually find at least 1 of us on at any time of the day. We want to add more people for few reason: -More fun with more people! -Help keep our helis and camps safe -Keep the war going with our rivals and find their camps or vehicles We can gear you up instantly and even give you a vehicle. Helis are owned by whoever puts in the time to find and repair them, but we all share using them (as long as you're good pilot). Our rival groups have expanded and we're being out-manned and out-gunned! We use teamspeak to talk. Can reply here or add me on steam "inic" or "iNick" (red hair girl pic)
  14. I would like to see bicycles implemented. One of the most, if not THE most, efficient vehicles ever invented. It can carry you for a long ways at good speed with only a relatively small energy expenditure. Also, you can strap a ton of shit to it (Ex: Ho Chi Mingh trail in Vietnam).

Which vehicles would you want to see in DayZ?

i think they should stick solely with civilian cars/trucks. but add some extremely rare military transport vehicles.
  16. * Horse's to ride on. Must poo every 30 minutes, occasionally throw you off and get scared at gunfire and bolt off even with you on top. Only gets used to gunfire once it has experienced it on many occasions, be it from you being shot at whilst on horse back, or from the player firing weapons near the horse, chasing and taming the horse each time it runs away. The horse will get more "used" to gun fire with each training session. Eventually the horse will become battle hardened, will start wearing eye-patches, smoking cigars, give his opinion on economical matters and even gallop upside down while spouting one liners. (see below picture) * In extreme cases the horse will become so battlehardened (a mixture of painkillers, morphine and cleaver use of burlap sacks and gas canisters will speed up this state of mind, though your horse may choose to run for extended periods of time aimlessly for no apparent reason) and may try to ambush players and even vehicles with his free loving comrades. (see below picture) * If your character happens to be called Clint, and is wearing a poncho and sombrero, your horse is now invincible and has a gatling gun attached to either side of it. Horse now only smokes cigarillo's, and spits slightly more often, usually into a empty metal bucket conveniently placed. Keeps a .44 Magnum in case a bambi is "feeling lucky". * Perhaps this game should now go in the direction of a horse simulator * Man made traps ie bear traps, or rope trap that catches a persons ankle and hangs them upside down from tree, building, lamppost etc * Underground sewer system * box of matches + gas canister + garden hose = man made flame thrower (you heard me) * Customization of cars, ie be able to reinforce it, add heavy V-shaped metal bumper guard for mowing down zeds and players mad max style, attached guns behind front lights, swords or metal drills that come out of alloys, shoots flames out of back, drops oil slicks and bananas, turbo jump, parachute system because james bond, batman hook shoot drive up buildings, barrel roll * Towels and plastic bags for clothes * Supply drops * NPC airlift from a random location for a very limited time for a player lucky enough to spot the craft land, and reach it before its take off. Craft will fly to a small medical facility with restricted airspace, to find rare medical related loot. * The ability to put your friend with broken legs into a wheelbarrow, and push him around that shopping mall while he rides shotgun quite literally, blasting zeds and foes alike while you push and steer. Teamwork! (see video below showing real zombies from 1970 before they was all killed irl. Start at time 1.28.48 if you please) * Wheelbarrows! * Through gnomish engineering, turn that wheelbarrow into a wheelchair hybrid you can push your self around in! * Wheelchairs * harley davidson with tripod attachment for 2 people in total * Ability to attack zombies with cream pies then spray them with water to add further insult to cream pie related injury's (see video below showing real zombies from 1970 before they was all killed irl. Start at time 2.11.20 if you please) * Swords * A mace on a chain, cus we like to get medieval sometimes. * Mexican sombreros * Hawaiian shirts * One player drives the car, the other sits in the open boot/trunk, shoots and fire DIY explosives! (see video below showing real zombies from 1970 before they was all killed irl. Start at time 1.33.00 if you please. Watch for 2-3 minutes) * Cheap 1970's music * Beards * Duck tape + twigs and branches = pretty awful camouflage that makes a lot of sound when you move, might entangle your legs and feet occasionally and generally hinders your movement. But hey its camouflage without the camouflage! Warning the below documentary capture's real life as it was in late 1970's urban America. Many rebels died to bring us this information.

Because I have eyes, and I noticed a distinct lack of items, vehicles, and light.

I'd love to see zeppelins and hot-air balloons when it comes to 'flying' vehicles.

Which vehicles would you want to see in DayZ?

I would REALLY like to see any of the customizable scrap vehicles that were made for Origins. I think it adds to the salvage and repair feel of the game.

    DayZ SA Trains?

Well you can't be too excited about vehicles then? i think the attractive part of this idea is that it just adds another dimension to the game. it would make it even more open-worldly and boundary-less than it already is
  21. Was this a print only article? This is stellar to read. I approve on all points. It's like Dean's reading all my posts! When he says vehicles next priority, one must realize he always means item permanence across server restarts. Your car trunk might be your first tent site.

1: Vehicles are not implemented yet. 2:Fireplaces are not implemented fully yet. 3:It needs a battery, attached to the pistol, turn on via right click, turn on. 4:Berries are half implemented. Certain bushes that you can interact with, you will not get any scroll option, but keep your hands empty and press F. You'll preform an animation. 5:Hunting is not implemented yet. 6:Not implemented yet. 7: Walkie talkie range is 2KM. 8:Healing happens via blood bag or saline transfusion. To attain healthy status you need to have a certain amount of energy. Eat eat eat eat. Never let food stay in your inv, always eat it whenever found until you get healthy *There are guides* 9:It's a glitch, it will split and fill up any half stacks. 10: Tents don't spawn anything right now, glitched. Move north. Go to Zelengorsk or Polana base. 11: I'm not sure, but I think so. 12: http://www.reddit.co...s_that_violate/ 13:Morphine is a cure all for broken limbs. However sticks and rags will make a splint.
  23. Well since my post got taken down because it was taken from PC Gamer I thought I would make a post to summarize what is in the article, and since someone on Reddit already beat me to it, I will just pass this along. Credit to PyroDragn on Reddit Picked out some of the most pertinent points for people looking for NEW features. Quotes are from the text, attempted to maintain as much context as I can without too much copy/pasting: Bows, arrows, and thrown items/weapons ...bows and arrows, knives and spears are all on the list – along with a physics-based throwing system that can be used inoffensively (throwing a can of beans to a friend in need) or offensively (throwing a can of beans at someone’s head). Reduce spawn of military gear and other important items We get away from running to a particular building to find the military item. You might find one there, but nine times out of ten it won’t be. It’ll only be when they get destroyed or disappear that they respawn again.” The result will be a more mobile player population, making more use of parts of Chernarus away from the major cities and military bases. Limited item respawn on server; items respawn when another is destroyed "Then we’ll be able to dramatically reduce the spawn rate of important stuff – like military weapons. As some of these difficulties increase, players will start to see the benefit of grouping up.” More zombies, but some isolated areas of the map too “We do still want the sense that there’s no zombies in particular places, out in the wilderness,” Hall says. “It brings this sense that I’m safe, but I have to take an active risk to go in where there’s more danger. I find that quite interesting.” Player to player contagious disease? “Say your group is getting along really great and you’re doing well and someone starts coughing,” Hall says. “What do you do? You suddenly have to face all of these issues. Hunting (already known) Hunting for game is a priority feature to be added, Night having an effect on hunting Hunting is also a way for Hall to start solving a much broader problem with the game – nighttime. “Nighttime is my favorite time in DayZ as a concept, but in terms of gameplay it’s... not so much,” he concedes. “You don’t really get much out of the game then, and that’s why – as designers – we need to fix it.” Tameable animals Not every animal you encounter in the woods will be wild. Tamable stray dogs are something that Hall is keen to include... Horses possibly “Horses are looking a lot more likely than they were before,” he says. “Part of the problem is animating them. It’s not something we can promise, but it’s right up there in terms of things we’re looking at in the moderate term.” Vehicles next priority, Starting with bicycles Vehicles are the next priority feature, requiring the cooperation of groups of players to assemble and maintain. The vehicle you and your friends build will, in a sense, be a second character – and it’ll need just as much caring for as a human being. We’re going to start simple, with bicycles – they’re slow, and there’s not much to them – then from there we’ll head out.” More 'appropriate* difficulty for running vehicles, including helicopters “We won’t be able to do everything, but the idea is to provide a much more DayZ-appropriate vehicle experience. For example, I would love to see helicopters – but it’s going to be so difficult to keep your helicopter running, because there’s going to be an incredible number of items attached to it that all have to be looked after. The helicopter becomes this amazing thing to see – not just something you find and get in and turn on.” Underground bases Something else he’s thinking about long-term is living space. “I want to go with underground bases because it solves the problem of space on the surface. Even though DayZ has a huge map, it’s still not big enough for what we’re talking about. Player run laboratory for virus research I’d like there to be – dare I say it – in-game content where you create a lab and try to keep that running. Suddenly resource gathering becomes very difficult, and very important. Being mobile becomes critical, because your base is static. One of your goals would be researching the zombie virus and how it mutates, as well as researching and even manufacturing new viruses. Extended moddability I’ve been looking for ways to add user-created content without them having to make a mod and distribute a data file. It’d be great if we could have it so that players could make stuff and create events that happen based on the existing database.” Engineering, science, medicine, animal husbandry – these are all signs of civilization, not post apocalyptic chaos. Player customization There’s things we’ll do to support that [Gangs/Groups], like tattoos and being able to write markings on your weapon.

    DayZ SA Trains?

[i understand this is optimistic but I think this would be a VERY useful/interesting feature] Ok, I recently went along the highway in the very north of the map, and eventually got to the train station north-west of Gvozdno. The whole time I just couldn't stop thinking of how epic/practical it would be if they could bring in a train with all the other vehicles when those are introduced eventually. The railway basically runs a perimeter of the map (it terminates in the north-west and starts in the south-west). Just think - could have your crew all aboard a post-apocalypse express, gunning down zombies/bambis as they travel around the edges of the map to epic locations (near NW airfield, cherno, elektro, (port near) berezino, svetlo). If you've played BF4 and seen the train on Golmud Railway I can kind of imagine something like that. I think it would just really open up the map and also just be bloody awesome. Would be very scary and apocalypse feeling to see a rusty old refurbished train wreck chugging along towards you from the distance. Anybody else think this would be pretty cool/useful? Haven't thought about how they would be kept though. Maybe each server would have 2 trains, both starting off maybe in cherno and svetlo. Require the player to find fuel in the nearby train stations and fill up before they can get going. Then just let them go on till server reset and start all over again? Also a train collision could be pretty badass and scary too. Do you try slam on the brakes or do you jump off and risk broken limbs/death to avoid a head on collision with another survivors train? I reckon this is a feasible idea, what do you guys think?

Most of the stuff you mentioned, including vehicles, fires, woodchopping, hunting, cooking, walkie talkie etc have not been implemented or have been switched off currently. As for the flashlight - silly question but have you put a battery in it? Number 13: Yes, well known bug. Just report it. I died going down a ladder yesterday. Not sure about the rest.
