  2. hmm. well, we still have to deal with the massive amount of hopping that will take place amongst the public hive the second vehicles are implemented private servers will be an easy mode mess where you spawn with a heli i don't think i'll ever find one/get one working with these two things established
  3. Happened in the mod but ... (this is also the only time I've ever not killed someone who used the word 'friendly' at me) One of the people my 10+ year group have met and been playing bunch of games with for over a year now we met one time when we were all riding bicycles down the road like a bike gang and we saw some random noob so we start circling him ringing the bells telling him we're going to kill him. He was crying like "No please don't I'ma friendly blah blah". It was at this time, when we're about to kill him, that we heard the biggest non-nuclear explosion in DayZ history just over a little hill from us (I think we were in east side of Cherno and it was on other side of the dead body pit little hill) so we can't actually see wtf just happened just the top of what looks like a nuclear explosion so we all, including this random guy, run over the hill and see fire everywhere like I don't even know how to describe how much it was like the entire map was made of fire. This was on a 100000 vehicle server and some hacker had teleported every vehicle that didn't have people in it to himself. About 99,997 of those vehicles exploded when he did it and killed him so he rage quit. So we run up and there's just exploded helicopters and cars and trucks and boats and ATV's everywhere. The only thing left is bikes. So we start talking about it with the random guy and how it was the craziest thing ever and the new guy gets on a bike and joins our bike gang so we invited him into our Skype call and have been playing with him ever since.

    customizable cars!

No M2s - PKMs in exposed positions (In pickup beds, hole in car roof) Technicals are far from OP or unrealistic. Think about it - Survivors can't carry around a 18pnd PKM all day. So mount it on a truck! You can mow down hoards of zeds, suppress players, ect. Also, they were everywhere in Arma's campaign So about them being OP - the PKM is a 7.62x54 GPMG that was the CDFs standard support weapon. It would be on either a limited traverse (Cheap) ontop the cab or a 360° (Expensive) in the bed. Either way, your standing ontop of a pickup bed and EXTREMELY exposed to enemy fire. It would give vehicles some kind of defense against Helicopters or ambushes, and allow them to attack other vehicles, but would be virtaully worthless against players.

Set in a future time on Chernarus, humanity is slowly returning to the wasteland and industrious survivors have begun to join together in small groups to rebuild society. Small camps of merchants have started to pop up to do business with survivors who collect goods from the wasted remnants of civilization. Wholesalers have landed on the shores offering imported goods to aid the rebuilding effort. Survive, explore, build wealth, make your way through the harsh environment and assist in the effort to rebuild, or burn it all down its your choice, live in the Epoch. Will be hosting a server event soon, Who ever makes the most amazing base will be given £20/15$

Is the DayZ Mod better than Standalone?

Mod has more stuff in it, thats why I have been playing it more than SA still. Vehicles, base building on example Epoch. Its just awesome ;)

    customizable cars!

I'd say a post apocalyptic setting doesn't differ much from a war setting. I'd really like to change the car from the chassis up. All the mechanical parts can be cookie cutter but imo there should be the option for a player designed coach. This will increase the vehicles efficiency and functionality based on player skill. Basically base building for vehicles.
  9. So, on the DayZ mod official servers and in the current build of the DayZ SA Alpha there is not really any incentive to begin a new character on a full server, or really to play on a populated server at all before you have a "full kit". I'm not really a fan of this situation and I have to assume that it'll be resolved at some point. From what I can gather from the dev blogs, the plan by the devs is to leverage the "global item economy" in such a way that gearing up on a populated server will be the path that most people choose because loot will be more readily available on servers with solid population. I hope this system will work, but I have some doubts. Unless they make loot almost non existent on empty servers, it doesn't seem like less loot would dissuade people from choosing to loot in peace on their own private paradise. The other idea I have seen thrown around is a CS:GO/TF2 style matchmaking system. Where you wouldn't pick a server from a list, you'd be automatically sorted into a server with a decent population with the best possible ping. I personally like this idea, as I don't see a need to even allow people the option of playing on a server by themselves that is also connected to the public hive. There are people who prefer to play alone, fight zombies and eat beans. That is totally fine, but I personally think this style of play honestly runs completely contrary to what the "Official" DayZ experience should be. As such, I think its place should be on Private hives. Other complaints about this system I have seen have been that when Tents/Cars/Bases are put in place people are going to want to pick a specific server when they play so they can get back to their sweet ass pile of loot. Totally a valid point, though I think there could definitely be a system that allows rejoining the server where you've "Planted your flag" so to speak, while maintaining the integrity of the match making system. The other criticism I've heard of this idea is something along the line of "This sounds like consoles, so therefore I hate it." which is somewhat less valid and is just plain silly. However, as a long time PC gamer I can't help but expect this sort of reaction. Irrational hatred of consoles and anything perceived as "simple" is part of the culture, and until consoles eventually fade away it probably always will be. The other idea that I've been thinking about lately (and this is where I'm expecting a lot of flames on my ass) is an MMO style server structure. Clearly labeled official servers selectable from some sort of slick graphic interface that are added only as needed, these would be run by BI instead of random enthusiasts. This arrangement would go a long way toward establishing both a level playing field for all players and a more standardized "Official DayZ experience", it would completely curb admin abuse, these servers would have undoubtedly have better support from the DayZ team, adding servers only as needed would ensure population remains somewhat stable across all servers and that in and of itself would add a sense of value currently missing from items in DayZ. On a personal note and this is entirely opinion, I really would prefer this type of system when it comes to exposing friends to the game. The current server browser is a total mess, seems entirely outdated and to new players it can be a bit confusing. "Click on DayZ #6 on the U.S. hive and we'll get started." is a lot easier than "Filter for "RapeDungeon" then join the 24/7 Daytime, hardcore, extra vehicles, custom spawn points server. I know there are like six "RapeDungeon" servers, the one we want is the second one down from the top if you filter by server pop. You're in? Okay, I don't see you on the player list, exit out and filter for Rape Dungeon and we'll try again." Yes, I know this is an exageration and there is a friends tab (that works sometimes), but really it would be really nice to have a clear list of servers than didn't have a bunch of clan tags, server styles, hosting companies and rape dungeons. The other solution to this problem, is exactly what solved the problem on the mod: Private servers. I agree that Private servers would easily fix a lot of problems in DayZ and I honestly see this being the solution that actually works. However, the devs seem fairly set on public hive servers being the main way to play DayZ even after they finish Alpha and head toward full release. So for the purposes of this discussion, I'm going to disregard private servers as a solution and focus on what can be done to incentivize players to play on full public servers even while gearing up. What do you like about each of these ideas? What do you dislike? Do you have a different idea not listed here or do you see nothing wrong with the current way the public hive functions? TL;DR. Players gear up on empty servers and then jump to full ones. It is lame, each paragraph outlines an idea to stop this practice. Low loot spawns on empty servers, better loot on higher pop servers. (The option the devs are currently in favor of.) CS:GO/TF2 style match making to automatically filter players into high population servers with a low pings. MMO style servers run by BI that would be added as needed in order to maintain a stable population on every server. Private Hive servers, which although I think is the best option it is not what the devs seem to want as the main way to play DayZ. So for the purposes of this discussion we'll be focusing on options within the public hive. Thanks, Hefe
  10. Very good point. You won't have ANY vanilla private servers if endgame cannot be achieved without having to server hop, and private cannot hop to public and vice-versa. They will all be running custom scripts to raise spawn rate of the 'rare' heli parts... and that is a slippery slope into '1,000 vehicles and custom loadout on spawn'. Also, if private can hop to public, but those private servers are passworded, are any of the 'rare' heli parts lost to the public hive?
  11. Hello Boys!! I had a dream very young, that I wanted to be a server admin for whatever game, it didnt matter. Maybe it was the take charge woman that I am, or maybe it was because I had loved gaming all my life. When my father was stationed in Japan I played Battlefield. I was ranked in the top 20 in the country, and decided there was just no challenge. Its tough when you master a game with no competition. My little brother, by little I mean 21,said I should look into playing this game called Arma 2. Like the cockey gamer I was, I thought great! another game I could master that is suppose to be so hard that few people play. I was up for the challenge! Well its been eight months, six to eight hours a day, and I can honestly say "I think im an ok player" LOL! However, with the Dayz mod, and discovering Epoch a while back, this extreme gamer has found a home for life! So I thought with no experience in coding, scripting, or anything I would put together an ever evolving, different server, that would challenge even the most hardcore gamers. So I rolled up my pink sleeves, took off my high heels, and read everything I could on creating a great experience. My goal is to change constantly, yet keep the true hardcore aspect of the game. I have received so much support and help, and have learned so much. My server is now up! I have quite a lot more to do, but the basics are there, with some cool tweaks. So without further blabbing(God that was therapeutic). I bring you: Zombiegirl's Epoch Napf Server Napf Map: This requires no download, and is huge! I mean Huge! I got tired of Chernarus, so tired in fact I can barely look at it! Plus I wanted to be different. Antihack: So I can spy on you guys!! And kick the crap out of would be hackers. Battleye is on, what a pain to navigate that monster during scripting. Debug monitior: I am looking for a new one but still cool. Self Blood Bag: Because really, who ever wrote in the original programming you cant do it yourself, is a moron. Blood regen: It was the first script I learned, so its my baby! NO OTHER REASON!!! LOL! AI Missions: I worked pretty hard getting the right mix of spawn points, so I hope you enjoy! Safe Traders & Anti thieft: This was a toss up, I decided to add it because who likes getting shot in the back of the friggin head, and robbed during a simple pork and beans transaction? Auto Refuel, Repair, and Rearm: Its a bitch if you dont have it! Nuff said. Snap Building: Because I cant line the edges of one wall to another, and since I'm a little OCD you can imagine the frustration! (Lost one laptop that way.) 200 plus Vehicles???? I really didnt know how many to add. I mean its Napf for Gods sake. Will add more or less depending on what players say. Custom starting loadout: Now by custom I mean not the norm. However to the first 5 players, and within reason, I will give you a loadout of your choice. (No AS50's!!) Since I am an Architect, I love the idea of custom bases built especially for you guys. However that will be later on when I get a donor program setup. Active Admins? You will never find on any server, a more active admin that me. I seem to be always there!!!! WATCHING! LOL! Actually, I want this server to be one of the best so I will be helping, taking advice, and probably busy scripting most of the time. I am also a night owl, so you will have a friend on those late night power gaming escapades! If you cant reach me Snowcat my brother will be there as well. Its ok to be rude to him, he's clueless! LOL! IP: 198.154.117.2:6302
  12. The group that trashed your base was getting even for your groups wall/door glitchin their base for 4 straight days..... then you guys complain when they finally find your base and trash your base legitly.... And when the bans appeared in red lettering... I actually received messages of "Why that take so long?", "FINALLY", and "I told you 4 days ago they were wall and door glitching with vehicles" .... Thanks for your input.... I also believe it was you two nights ago talking about how your group loves to get banned from servers..... So, I wish you guys the best on your next server...................... Other Server Admin...... See a Duane, Trader, Crackas and Kevin.... Don't be surprised you receive complaints.................................
  13. If I'm to be perfectly honest, this server does have some admin issues tied up in it. There is one group who seems to get constant VIP treatment (spawned things by admins) and they try to reign over other players. It's a group of about 5 people who are forgiven of anything they do (glitching, etc) and have an admin spawned base. I'm not sure about the legitimacy of their items, but their base is definitely admin spawned. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJkkMDdLGv8) <-- This is the base that was spawned. It appeared suddenly in Cherno today, following a successful raid of the groups past base. This is all while the server's population is slowly thinning out, likely due to this group. Seeing a new player even attempt to build a new base is rare, as they are constantly hunted by this group and their thermal vision vehicles. As far as admin treatment goes, they are very ignorant to their players. This is another reason the population appears to be dying. Anyone who is not a part of this group is usually considered not important, and therefore ignored 95% of the time. After about 3 months of playing on the server, I am at my end for tolerating the admins and this holier than thou group. The spawning of this base, after watching countless groups work hard to build their bases, is just too unfair to be tolerated. If you are considering playing on this server... don't. -Duane. 14. To be honest it sounds like Warz/Infestation all over again. Very very bad game changing meta. Ppl with private could easily pvp or loot on public than go to private without problems when things get hot. Thats not good it will hurt the whole survival feel of the game. Also ENCOURAGING ppl to hop for chopper parts is god awful. Hes literally encouraging ppl with a carrot on a stick. It will lead to a few strong clans with overpowered weapons and vehicles with weapons i can see it now.

    customizable cars!

So in the road map, Dean said he wanted to give the player the option to customize their vehicles, he started talking about batteries and shit, but what popped up in my head was this and Now obviously, acheiving exactly that is not likely at all, but I hope we have quite a few options besides literally just finding parts to make the car run. and this is a suggestion, if anyone is questioning the place this thread should be
  16. Hi all, this is a relatively new server and we are looking for folks to join us. We are friendly to PvP and role playing and we have AI for folks who want to just PvE. The map is chernarus and is set to a 24 hour time cycle based off GMT +10. Resets are every 3 hours, no admin abuse or hackers. Although the server is pretty much new I've worked really hard to make sure there is a lot of new content,scripts and a custom map with more then 200+ buildings added in. I will continue to work hard to maintain the server and keep it interesting for all who would come drop by. Here is some of the server info and features.     Pistols should spawn w/Magazines {POLL ADDED}

Also once vehicles come into play, mags will be easyier to get as far as run time. Not sure if that fact will change the way I voted but it will get easyier.

whats your rule of engagement on DayZ

This thread makes me sad. The majority of this community is so cowardly and overly competitive that they almost always shoot armed players without even attempting to communicate. "He's armed and he's on the coast; must be a bandit... BAM!" Where is the fun in that? Play arma 3 wasteland. You won't have to deal with all of these bugs and I completed features. More guns. More vehicles. All of the things you beg for on these forums. "I KOS because there aren't enough features in this game to do anything else yet." This game was made for people willing to risk losing everything to engage in heart pounding interactions with potentially violent strangers. This is the only game where potential friend or foe can honestly only be distinguished by their ACTIONS; not by the color of the arrow floating over their head. "I tried being friendly. I got tired of getting killed so I don't even try anymore." This excuse is the worst. So many of you think the only two options are a.) kill or you will undoubtedly be killed. Or, B.) place your life into the hands of a complete stranger and hope that they are like-minded. The truly skilled survivors asses the stranger, place themselves in a superior position should a firefight erupt, and then you attempt to communicate. If you can learn to do this, not only will you increase your chances of survival (should you choose to interact with others), but when you ARE forced to kill someone in self-defense, it will be so much more rewarding KNOWING (not speculating) that they would have gladly done the same to you. Alas, this kind of tactical thinking (it's a fucking survival game for god's sake) is too much to ask for the majority of dayz's current community. And this post will be ignored and more excuses will be made to defend lazy play styles. If you are another man or woman who plays this game as I do, know that you are not alone. Know that if you continue to play honorably and not sink down to the level of the majority around you, you will be experiencing dayz how it is intended to play. Stay strong, true survivors of chernarus.

  20. Solution for spawning players outside/inside of bases. Topic brought up here in relation to Rocket's talk today, and as promised here's a possible solution with workable prototype. Basic idea: When a player spawns, they "drift" 1-2km away from their login point. This "drift" would only happen on joining a new server and when the timer would be applied. The drift is influenced by nearby players, if there are any. A nearby player will push the player's spawn position away, meaning players will not spawn on top of other players. If there are no players nearby, drift is in a random direction. This does not happen if the influencing player is on the spawning player's friends list.Zombies apply a smaller push than players."Attractors" can be added (like camping parts, bases, vehicles, etc) that pull the player to spawn there.Attractors only apply if a player has interacted with that item (vehicles) or the player is on the friends list of the player that "owns" that item.Unaffiliated Attractors would severely push players away (someone else's base).Attached is a zip with a simple mockup in Unity. Extract it to your desktop or wherever and open the .html file and everything should work. Click to place a repeller (player, zombie, etc)Shift Click to place an attractor (a base you're a part of)Click an attractor/repeller to remove itEscape clears both itemsPlayer would spawn in the green wedge. Also included is the source, which can be opened as a project in Unity. If a mod wants to sticky this or promote these kinds of suggestions (with code or prototypes) I'd be more than OK with that. Hint hint. Welp, I've got a game jam to run off to, ciao. Your server has admin base... Really? Do not play on that server, major admin abuse. Admins can move vehicles as they wish and I got banned from it for commenting on the fact that you spawn with a ton of gear.

One Thing Needs To Be Addressed [ROADMAP]

I'd like to wait and see how their loot re-spawn system works before I think up alternative suggestions to killing off server-hopping (perhaps 'killing off' is too strong of a term. Let's say... Encourage players to remain on their home server.) And that sort of implies my response to your question - I like to think people will naturally, organically, favour one server or another and stick to it. Doesn't really need intervention. Sure there will be bugs [loot re-spawn] and it won't be flawless upon initial release, but knowing that loot could re-appear nearby will give the impetus to go and find it, rather than log of... Wait 5 minutes... Log on and hope. If fails, rinse & repeat. And the great thing? Once X amount has been looted in a designated area, it will re-appear. Meaning on a busier server, it will re-appear sooner (more people collecting more stuff etc. etc.) It could also dictate how people move about the map, adding new tactical aspects to the game. Similarly, I'm sure the barricading issue you touched upon will be at the front of their minds. It's a blindingly obvious potential 'break' which should be at the front of their minds. Though it would not surprise me if it was dealt with in stages; I.E. Release barricading feature, wait a few weeks, release patch addressing known issues. There's still a lot of work to be done across the board, both gameplay wise to server issues, gear/items/VEHICLES etc. and they will all need to be carefully balanced to fine-tune this game into fulfilling what potential we can see it has. We will have to wait and see...

What has the standalone become ?

Let me be "that guy" here by saying this... It's alpha. You're calling the game glitchy, then saying that adding content will fix it. People don't seem to realize that the base game needs a massive improvement, and I see way too many people wanting more and more features; New guns, vehicles, crafting, hunting, etc. There is no point in concentrating on adding more and more into a game where people are still running through walls (on others' screen), where zombies are defying physics, and the servers are crowded with hackers.[1] Before worrying about new content, the base glitches need to be worked out. Why? "It's alpha." [1]People claim, "I have ___ hours on DayZ and have never seen a hacker, hackers aren't a problem, its alpha, lag or desync, deal with it." Well, I have only 200 hours but have experienced enough hackers to see the problem, as well as many other players have.
