Absolutely agree about this changing when vehicles are implimented. But perhaps they need to start placing spawns a little more inland....?
-
It has come to my attention that many new Dayz players do not feel motivated to leave spawn. I feel the same way, as there are typically no other players anywhere other than the coast, and human interaction is what makes the game so fun. Leaving the spawn means being alone for a long period of time which is BORING. So, I want to know what you guys think would help to get players to leave the spawn town, and explore the vast reaches of Cherno. Personally I think the Addition of vehicles will aid in exploration the most, but I'm interested to know what you think.

Please note: This is just my opinion of the game at its current stage, yes I know it’s in alpha and I eagerly wait for all the changes and improvements to come to this game. I noticed people take others criticism of the game personally like someone just insulted their mother, share your own opinion but don’t get personal just because you don’t like other’s opinion. I’m just trying to contribute and give something back hence why I took the time to write it all down. Below I have separated and discussed about the various elements of the game. Best factor of DayZ – The tension, hands down. Getting into a situation where you just don’t want to die. The nerve wreck. That is the one thing that DayZ offers that I don’t see in any other game. Fun factor – Killing other opponents/geared players/bandits doesn’t bring enough joy to counteract the pain of death, in the end everyone soon or later dies, everyone is in a way, a loser. Player Vs Environment – Lacklustre, boring, dehydration and hunger are just annoyances that you need to consider in this big PVP world, they don’t offer any valuable gameplay it doesn’t contribute to the fun. Besides the players and zombies the environment is just big static meshes that have been recycled over and over. Zombies – Pointless at the moment, they are just annoying, so many bugs with them I won’t even bother mentioning. The fact that people just walk around them and ignore them shows how pointless they are. They have messed me up on a few occasions totally underserved. For example I was on a sniper hill eyeing an enemy, this zombie all the way in elektro far, far into the distance aggro’s for no reason (didn’t even shoot) and came chasing after me, 5mins later I got flanked, thanks to the zombie giving my position away (yes I did move positions, but was probably being watched by this time). Loot – Predictable. Need guns? Police station, fire stations, schools, those red buildings, airstrips, military bases. I no longer try to gear myself up, it’s not worth the time, now I just Find melee weapon > try to knock out geared guy > steal his loot. Works pretty well and it’s more fun. Hacks – hacks and glitches happen quite often, often running into players with hacked amount of ammunition and non-reloading guns (proof when you loot their shit), some people have insane sight skills but a part of me says ESP hacks, who knows, unfortunately this one doesn’t leave evidence behind. A defenceless hacked game is a pointless game, I’m wondering how this happens with both VAC and BE running? Spawns – uninspired, boring, East coast all the time, Berinzo is the new elektro, takes forever to get to other locations besides the east, takes forever to run back and group up with friends. I know a lot of DayZ community for some reason love running over and over in this virtual world, then again some people are into foot fetishes and food p0rn, my point is you are catering to a small amount of the potential player base. I am really looking forward to the controlled spawn point’s rocket had talked about. Spawn near Berinzo > run to Berinzo > PVP > die > Spawn near Berinzo, works more well than any other alternative right now. Priority Development – I’m going to get hated for this but I for one think your development priorities are just plain out wrong. I don’t know why anyone would focus on fixing the interiors of a car when the car has missing wheels or an engine. Looking at the update list I can see one great update, the 100 man servers (hopefully) and I applaud you for that. The rest like campfires, bow and arrow, and wild life are not game changers. After a brief amount of time with those items people are still going to go around PVP in major cities. It would make much more sense to fix your glitches, bugs, desyncs, zombie AI, add vehicles, controlled spawn points, bring in group identification (armbands, icons) etc. I don’t know maybe just focus on the core of the game rather than add more crap into the mix that’s already barely working. Map – Way too big for its own good, even on a 100 man or 200 man server, a lot of places will be ghost towns with a few dedicated PvP zones. Vehicles might fix this problem depending on how many vehicles per server. The most irritating thing in this game is spending hours running around without a single sight of a person, even worse is to getting KOSed from the back without even seeing a single person, how people can spend 1-2 hours camped to shoot down 1 person is beyond me. I think that is too much time invested for a short lived gratification. PVP – This is a Player Vs Player game, I don’t why people deny this, let’s take out multiplayer for second and make this a single player game, would you play this game now because it offers so many things to do in terms of survival and fighting off zombies etc. No it doesn’t, its utterly weak without the threat of other players. There are much better games out there for surviving and hunting, Far cry 3 was awesome with the camps, bows, and the wild life. There are also better hunting simulators out there. DayZ will never be at that level of single player gameplay, it shouldn’t aim to either. It needs to focus more on PVP and make it work better. Business Role - Let’s face it guys, I am pretty sure this game has already made (and is still making) a lot of money through sales. All that matters at this point is: will developing this game more bring more cash that is worth it? If the answer is no then it’s time to wrap up and call it a day. Believe it or not games are more of a business than passion these days, unfortunately this game can get halted at any time before even making beta because it may be not worth it. Alternative game – At the moment I feel that Arma III battle Royal is the closes thing to being what DayZ is, sure it does have its own set of problems but it seems to take all the best elements of DayZ and get rid of the all bad ones. For example there is actually a winner in BR, the map narrows down, allowing guaranteed action. The fights are still tense as death means getting kicked out and having to join a new game but at the same time is a lot quicker to jump into action as opposed to DayZ. The game (usually) is more bug/glitch free than DayZ, and no stupid zombies ruining the pvp either. DayZ needs to use the big open world to its advantage and make gameplay work better, it needs to define what it is more clearly. Conclusion – I have probably generated a lot of disagreement in my opinion and hate with all the criticism towards the game, but even Dean Hall “Rocket” said “I don’t think it’s even a good game yet” in the Roadmap video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es42HrtPB3I time: 4:08) I totally agree with him, it’s a weak game, the only thing it has going for it at the moment like how I said before is the tension, gun shootings have never been as important as they are in DayZ, you just really don’t want to die in this game. Playing DayZ is like being in a bad relationship, you just want to love it but it screws you over and over again till you no longer want to be with it, and there are no future changes to the game to change that. As a last note, Dayz has been selling very well for many months on steam usually always leading spot number one, but it doesn’t fair the same in hours spent playing the game, definitely a lot of people are putting this game down, I’ve made many friends in DayZ who all happen to quit after a few days, and it’s the same pattern with everyone I meet in game, people don’t tolerate it for too long, such a shame.

This isn't being done in the real DayZ. It's done on a private hive that ports in stuff from A2. It's probably the same server that has " Working vehicles ", Yet they're just A2 vehicles. ;)

Anything new in Day Z standalone to pull me away from the mod?
Etherious replied to Putts_UK's topic in General Discussion
With it's 1k vehicles, starting loadouts, and tanks? LOL -
The team working on shirts are just designers creating 3D models and textures. Adding vehicles to the game includes a whole code work a designer doesn't know shit about. And those who do are busy with problems much more important than vehicles, and in fact, probably also required before vehicles are added, since vehicles code would be supported on the engine tweakings and fixings they're doing now. Too much people knowing to little about videogame development. Before content, comes the engine, you can't ask for content if the engine isn't finished. When the engine for vehicles is finished, then you would be able to ask those shirt makers to create 3D models and textures for vehicles.
-
WTF? Vehicles? Read the topic please? No one here wants vehicles. I would rather have cows implemented again before having vehicles.
-
They have multiple teams working on different things. The thing is, the community wants cars, or for now, at least a bike to settle us down. How about they get the dev team working on shirts to work on vehicles? WE DON'T NEED MORE CLOTHING OR FOOD. Not right now, I think vehicles should be number 1 on the priority list. Then you can focus on adding a purple shirt in. What also pisses me off is that when people create these suggestions, the forum moderators lock the thread. I thought we were supposed to suggest things to help the game development? They never listen to anyone's suggestions on the forums.

I started playing on this server about 4 weeks back. One of the admins was a player named Rasse. during a chat with this admin, I expressed an interest in purchasing a donation pack for €10 but i gave a little extra to help the server. I was given a bunch of stuff for building a base, including an armoured vodnik, safes etc. About two days later I expressed an interest in purchasing a tank and some extra weapons including an AS50, and was told by the admin Rasse that It would cost 40€ for the tank that I wanted. the admin built an extra base to house the tank in. Next day when I was online doing some building, one of the other admins "suspiciously" TP'd to me, and asked where I got the tank. I told him I donated €40 and had gave the money to Rasse. He said oh why didn't you just say. then off he went. about 5/10 mins later he appeared again, and said the tank wasn't allowed as it was to OP, and he took the tank away and replaced with a BTR. He also took away the AS50 as that wasn't allowed on the server apparentely. I said to him, but I've just payed €40 last night for this, to which he replied well you gave it to the wrong person. and off he went. Later about 1hour, the admin that took my money TP'd to me, and admitted he was going to take my money and run, but had a sudden change of heart, and gave half of the money to the server admin. and said he had sorted out the issue with the tank, and swapped it back for the one that I payed for. then off he went again. After this I find out Rasse is no longer an admin, and they say he banned himself from the server, but he sent me a message offline, to say that he was perma banned by the server admin. Then just today I spawn into the game, to find all the stuff I had payed for had been deleted. the whole base, including the vehicles. I've not even had an explanation or nothing. Just took my money and the server admins expect me to just take it on the chin. should they not hold themselves accountable for their own admins actions.

I'm happy to hear that. I was just going to make a whining thread that would go something along the lines of "Why on Earth would you make 100 player servers without first implementing loot respawn??? It was fun and all for a while, but there is no point in playing experimental right now when you can hardly make it inland without starving to death. I'm very happy with the state of the game and the progress the dev team is making but...something just feels off about your logic when deciding what gets patched into the game first. I already know you guys realize what the players really want, which of course is vehicles. I know that is impossible at the moment. But you should seriously consider spending (far) less time on things like crossbows and akms (sorry ak lovers, including me) and much, much, more time ironing out an implementation for at LEAST a bicycle. Once again I am not at all unhappy with the game, even in super alpha it is amazing. I just wish your priorities were more in line with the wants of the player base. My 2 cents, <3 ya.

I'd like to see more damaged/ruined buildings in towns. The military has, presumably, been fighting off the infection to no avail, yet most buildings are pristine. There's burnt-out cars everywhere as though there was an arsonist who only targeted vehicles. Chernarus feels like everyone just up and left without fighting for their homes. I think a little bit of battle damage could go a long way. Would be pretty cool to see a ring of barricades in the center of one of the big towns, as though it was the location of some futile last stand.

No one cares any more, when I look at all my friends in real life and on Steam, none of them are playing Dayz. They did once care about the mod, but lots of them (including myself) just waited it out for the SA and then just felt burnt by how you ended up spending a year making a game that is worse than what we had. There is stuff like Epoch in the mod, which is far better than what Dayz SA will be in a year and in a years time whatever mod Dayz Mod has, that'll be far better than what the SA is. I just think in a year, no one will give a shit, no one gives a shit now.... Far too little has come too late and tbh why spend so much time on the network? No one cares, the mod works just fine, we had white listed servers which fixed the problem of hackers, but personally I only ever come across one hacker in my whole time playing the mod. Fucking disappointing, everything that we wanted from the SA, just wasn't delivered, instead you done a load of shit no one cares about. In so many ways it is worse, the zombies are worse, even though they were meant to be the main fix, the loot just isn't there, there is no mod support which means no one can make it better, you lot seem so incompetent which means the modder loss is even worse............... seriously, how do modders do your job, but 100 times better? There are no vehicles, no weapons.. FUCK ALL! Dayz SA would be the biggest disappointment of the year if it wasn't for Titanfall being complete garbage.. that game feels like an extra mode added onto COD like the zombie shit they've done. I'm done with Dayz and the funny thing is all the hype has gone on to H1Z1 and given SOEs poor track record, that'll be another zombie flop. Maybe I'm just old but haven't people learnt from EQ and SWG? Also the failure that was the original PS and then EQ2... but then PS2 as well was a massive failure.... why are people exited for H1Z1 again?

Base buildings needs to come.. Fast.
monolith1985 replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
maybe the main thing for you, but alot of people would say the main thing is vehicles, another would say performance and stability. Everybody has different wants and expectations of this game, but the devs will realise what is best, when they think it is right. -
I got KoS'd a LOT more in the mod, where I would say over 85% of encounters were violent. So no, I don't think tents, bases, or vehicles will reduce KoS.
-
Add Arma 2 vehicles while waiting for the final version ? They have the files.
-
Will tents and bases reduce KoS mentality
ThatBritshGuy replied to Jolunn's topic in General Discussion
At the moment there is nothing to do after you get all the gear you want, that's why there are so many bandits and people KoS. When more stuff gets added like tents, vehicles and player bases there will be less because there is a purpose and later on in the games development survival will be a lot harder because right now when you have a few hours under your belt and you know not to really trust anyone and where to go for loot it is really to easy to be running around with full military gear on. -
Hi guys I just made a new server and its amazing please join it! the ip is 216.244.74.187:2302 The server includes AutoRefuel, Jets, Extra loot, A ton of vehicles and Many more!
-
More zombies, Vehicles and thermal sights would definitely help with the problem of people just sitting in a bush in NWAF or NEAF. What we need are zombies that walk without player interaction. Let's call them walkers since i cant think of a more original name. These zombies roam the entire map and keep the player on his toes. There i just made the game 2x more difficult.

An insight - What is the 'IT' that made DayZ, DayZ and where do we go from here.
Intactus replied to Intactus's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the input, and sure, The current uncertain character mechanics need a ton of polish, but i think they still should stick to their roots with this one, not replace then with generic FPS mechanics as they did with current exp. As for the weapon complexity: You might be right, maybe i'm too hung up on weapons and people certainly have more knowledge of themselves than any guns. Can't argue here. Nevertheless i feel that the main gameplay mechanism for causing player injury, should pretty much match the mechanism of recovering from that injury. Surely everyone can shoot a gun if it works but there should be a similar depth to them than there is to our character is all i'm saying. (Also i get the feel that most players are way more hung up on how their mosin is kitted than how their char is doing.) :D Not to be a dick but that's kinda ignorant thing to say... What i got out from that stream is: - H1Z1's got some serious Graphical mechanics working nicely that are sorely missed in dayz completely. H1Z1 right now can/could be ten times better looking than Dayz. - They got some pretty rigid vehicle/charachter physics, ragdolling, terrain and environtment collisions going on even affecting vehicles center of gravity and acceleration and so forth. That one bush/fence does not hinder the fact that otherwise the car was behaving in consistent, predictable and realistic way thanks to decent physics. - Regarding the map: It's reasonable to assume that what they have as a "testing ground" is some barebones, early snapshot of the map in development with all functioning shit just slapped into it for internal playtesting. That's safe way to test shit in a functioning world that mapmakers etc. are not modifying constantly and complicating the task of figuring out other issues... The thing that you Should be looking is the potential. The mechanics of how they generate those nice/bad graphics, physics and mechanics. Overall i'd say that they have a good solid base right there, but the overall design was something between Rust and Farcry (Or Warz?... Never tried that one). -
Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
Wilberfoss replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Well first vehicles are anounced for the third quarter of the year. A working mod is a more realistic guess than a car in current patch. -
Remember in the mod when you logged in, some text popped up in the bottom right of your screen? It told you the map, your location, and how many days you've survived in the apocalypse. This was one of my favorite things when the mod came out. It was very immersive, and made me proud when it popped up saying "Day 37". I feel this should be put back into standalone. When people start moving up north due to tents, vehicles, and more guns (I shouldn't even need to explain the importance of certain items/weapons that can ONLY be found at airfields/military bases, but that's a whole different point.) Anyways, when people actually start surviving in this survival game, I think it's important that they know how long they've been alive to attach them to that character a bit more. I think most would prefer the text that pops up in the corner of the screen on login, and no, I'm not talking about the annoying BEC chat that tells you every time someone connects/disconnects, I mean some bigger text that pops up in the corner of your screen. Obviously, it wouldn't tell you your location, maybe Chernarus, but it would tell you "Day 1, Day 19" etc... Another idea would be the journal system that was put into the mod recently, your character always has this journal on him that tells you how many days you've been alive. Anyways, I hope everyone sees my argument on how immersive this feature is, and I hope it gets added to the game. It might even already be planned. If you happen to think up any reason why this could be a bad idea, please post it below. Thanks for reading and have a nice day. -Jigsaw

Tents and what is in them, and what is on you is all I would like to see hold persitant items not backpacks laying around full of stuff as I describe in my above post. Later vehicles could become persitant and what they contain, but either way a Camp is needed for something to do which needs to Tent to happen IMHO
