  3. Someone said about the army just leaving guns behind.. No you are correct, those surviving soldiers would have grabbed as much gear as humanly possible and got out of there.. But what about all the not so lucky soldiers, those who killed by the infected and left behind or became infected themselves.. I can't see the army rushing around grabbing their bodies or gear when a horde of infected are rushing up.. So yes, a lot of stuff would have been left behind, its the simple fact that not everything would have been cleaned out in time.. The majority of the military areas on the map show signs of a struggle and destroyed vehicles, so whose to say those soldiers there didn't just hop on the first heli out of there and only grabbed what they could! Why would there not be full auto guns in those areas or at the subsequent heli crashes? In my opinion, for there NOT to be military grade weaponry in what was basically a warzone would be far less immersion breaking and unrealistic. If you don't particularly like full auto guns then don't use them and avoid them, I'm not a massive fan either and I tend to stick with the SKS or my trusty bow... But that is no reason to want to have them taken out of the game entirely. In fact, I would be shockingly disappointed if that was the case as the realism argument gets pushed out again and again for most things, but then some people want everyone fighting on the same level.. And to whoever said about the real world situation, no I have never been in that situation, but real armies and groups have been when they have had to get out of an area quickly, and you can be damn certain that while they would have grabbed what they could, a decent amount of stuff would end up being left behind in a rushed evacuation.

    Live AI helicopter crashes

    I know (been modding and scripting for Arma sind 2007). I just wanted to state that such kind of helicopters would be easily to implement within 15 minutes of scripting (if there's AI left for operating air vehicles and non-destroyed 3D models - but most likely it could be copied from Arma or ToH). Of course this is not all code necessary. Just examples. Further explosions and smoke can be added within the air. And of course the devs' knowledge and skills with this stuff is a million times higher than mine. More than the loot, it's more about ambience and the unpredictable live-situations that develop if multiple groups see the plane and rush towards it and fight for it. But why not make it filled with precious loot. When I first heard about the heli-crash-sites a long time ago, I thought, it would be something like this.

    How about tarps for vehicles? They could have different camo-types for different environments and it would disguise the car from a distance.

    Remove books and other ideas

    Ok, Im old school, been playing over 200 hours on standalone and also more than that on arma2 mod. Please remove books, change it into food or useful items. places that are looted are a pain when all you find is books. Should I have to eat a can of food every village? I think not, the human body can go without food for days, survival, water, no you need water to survive. Items that take up ridiculous space, like keys and lockpicks and fishing lures, really? one slot. The mod had a selection of normal tools you need that took up no space in backpack, just items you added to person as essentials. a box of matches takes up same amount as a tin of baked beans... Just back from drinking an entire container of gasoline. I got full, unsure if it was filled with water and left sitting in a shed but I assume it was petrol. Could I sniff it to check?, no but every time I went to open a door it tried to get me to drink it. Until I drank the entire container of gasoline while trying to open a car boot with it in my hands. more vehicles please after a few years of a running simulator im beginning to lose my patience.

I have put about 300 hours into DayZ mod and feel I'm a pretty decent lone wolf, but I'd much prefer to play with a group. I enjoy helping other players, searching for heli crash sites, repairing vehicles, and killing bandits!
  8. So I got some suggestions and I got some suggestions by a youtuber named Creditred which i like to post here Ill start with my own: 1. The ability to add backpacks to vehicles with some ducktape and a backpack you can tape backpacks on your v3s, you can tape it at specific slots (only ducktaped bags can be placed in those slots, then you can do view contents to view your items) one shot with all rifles except sporter and trumpet will drop the bags from the car (so someone could shoot the bags of the car and walk to the road and loot the bags) 2 shots with any pistol except p1 and makarov 4 shots with p1 and makarov 2. the ability to store the upcoming barrels in your v3s's back (only if they have a back) 3. be able to sneak up to a player and do this: (but gun to persons head) just like walking with your hands up both you and the player will walk when you press WASD just like handcuffs the person taken hostage can release itself by pressing a button (it will then do a small animation) and the player with the pistol can kill him if he does so with E and Q the person with the pistol can hide his head behind the hostage (if you take someone hostage and a group aims their gun at you) 4. Horde disquise So with the new zombie AI we need a plan to get past zombies Zombie guts is the answer! Yes just like cow guts you can cut up a zombie and put zombie guts on different type of clothes if you wear it to long you will get sick and if you still wear it you will get to red type sick really fast! now why would you put guts on your clothes? if you put guts on your clothes and you walk instead of run you can walk past zombies or zombie hordes IF you do this: your clothes cant be washed so you need to find new clothes the more clothes zombie gutted the less chance of being spotted by a zombie 5. put stick in the ground this way you can put allot of sticks next to eachother to make a short fence (sharp sticks will do damage unless jump over, or break legs) Now some of Credidreds ideas Makeshift Tents: Pretty much can only be made with multiple players carying multiple objects (maybe a small one for lone wolfs) You start with a sheet of blue tarp: with fills up a big part of your inventory you can find these at ''uncommon'' at the construction sites ONLY You can right click the tarp and place it on the ground then, you need 3 sticks either metal poles (stronger tents who can sustain bullets) wooden ductaped sticks (if shot at the tent the tent may collapse, everytime it rains there is a 10% chance of collapsing) than you need to attach another tarp and put it around the tipi you can color it with either: 3 green spraypaint 3 blackspraypaint 2 green and one black for camo you can also camouflage it by adding ghillie wraps to it Megaphone works just like the walkitalkie if equiped you get an extra voice channel which will extend (in one direction not in a circel like normal direct chat) with some megaphone effects added to it.

    Some ideas i came up with.

    These are some ideas i came up with at the spot that i think should be in the game. Food & Water: Lifestraw - hard to find, can be used at ANY water source, works pretty much as a well. MRE - Military grade "Meal Ready to Eat", rare, pack itself works as a medkit with default items used for making the meal, MRE only consists of the base items needed, water required. Coffee & Tea - bags of Coffee & Tea can be found around the map, coffee is common and tea is uncommon(remember this is Russia), [Tea]: pour some water into a cooking pot, cook the water, pour it into a canteen or PET bottle, add tea, [Coffee]: pour water & add coffee into a cooking pot, heat the water, pour into a canteen/PET bottle. Both heats you up pretty effectively. Clothing: Fingerless Gloves(i know that they are in the game files). A hoodie down & up option on the torso clothing with hoods. suit - makes you look like a badass ;) Weapons & Attachments: A series of handguns from the Glock series, like the Glock 17, Glock 18 and Glock 25. M134 Minigun - an Extremely rare weapon which takes just as rare ammunition, 10000 round ammo belt, it's the rarest weapon in the game and can only be mounted to vehicles. MG3 - German machine gun that can be held in hands or mounted to vehicles for improved accuracy and stability. .44 Desert Eagle - Powerful handgun produced in Israel, it is chambered in .44 ammunition. PKM - Soviet machine gun that can be mounted to cars or carried in hands, can be found in military areas or pre-mounted to cars. M249 - American machine gun that can be mounted to cars or carried in hands, can only be found at UH-1Y-Venom helicopter crash sites. This is a WIP post, feel free to comment any ideas you think should be on this list. As noted on the official DayZ forums – a percentage of the active user base are experiencing abnormal behaviour with this update. That said, work progresses internally on a hotfix for 0.54 aimed at addressing: Crash to DesktopLow-Poly TexturesLow FPS in gameConstant “Receiving” loading screens during gameplayWhile the programming and QA team members assigned to this hotfix push their work to experimental branch for testing, the rest of the team continues on with work on 0.55. The 0.55 update should be a fantastic one for the users of stable branch – with work focusing on things ranging from: Animal A.I. iterationHorticulture expansionsCooking expansionsOperational Fluids for vehiclesTraps/Snare expansionsTesting of Central Economy controlsAnd so much more..Work continues on larger engine based tasks such as replacing the renderer, work on the new player controller, new audio engine module, and related tasks. On an exciting note, as we look forward to what will be required to support Steam Workshop modding for DayZ teams have begun analysis work on both requirements for new content to be created, and legacy DayZ Mod content to be supported. Brian Hicks / Lead Producer Back in the days when I was trying to survive and figure out how everything worked in the DayZ mod and apart from many other things I was also amazed with this simple one - during the idleness, infected were choosing their destinations on the fly. At first seemingly irrelevant mechanic makes out for me the dynamic stealth game which is authentic in any case. I cannot count how many times it makes my heart race when infected suddenly changed their direction while I was trying to sneak around them or how I was waiting for ages hidden nearby just to pick point the moment when to move to my desired location just to realize that more infected were coming to that area. This unpredictable behavior made me fear them, trying to minimize my appearance to become successful - to survive in a hostile environment and luckily find and get what I needed. Fast forward to the present, from the DayZ release infected was one of our main issue and we were very aware of it. Many of you have been disappointed how they work and lack of the visible progress. Hopefully we will revive your faith for proper working infected soon. With the most of the new AI, sensors and animation systems now being in their place we can finally begin to transform infected to the real menace as they always meant to be. Of course initial implementation based on the new systems will resemble the current state at first as we need to settle things down, catch and solve the most annoying issues and make proper foundation. So please don't expect instant switch to infectsomenauts. I can see you are getting afraid again, but hey we are still deep in the development and you can experience these changes hands on which is part of fun being involved in the early access to the game. I want to assure you that more advanced things will be rolled out continuously later as we progress with their implementation alongside with further development of AI, sensors, pathfinding and animation system. So what to expect from the new infected in general? At first which is very important is clearly the performance which allows us to add more of them in the environment. Very first test showed us that server performance is pretty solid even with 1500 infected on the map which is 5x more then it's usual on the stable these days. The infected are designed to be a threat for the survivors as their senses are more sensitive, they are moving fast on short distances and can be lethal in the close combat. You can encounter them mostly in the residential areas, the larger the area - the more infected are present. Areas can be purged which encourages to barricade structures and establish bases. After some time infected will be approaching the area again. As we want to promote stealth approach to encounters you can minimize chance of being seen or heard by wearing darker or camo clothes and light shoes, slowing down your movement, lowering your profile in crouch or prone, avoiding usage of lights and making noise and so on. Fortunately you can also distract them when they are wandering to unwanted destination with throwing the items witch makes noise, light or are somewhat attractive to them. You must be aware in such situation as they are quite interested what's going on around them. When you are focused they will try to hunt you down with no mercy while easily forming packs down the road. Even the doors or barricades cannot be trusted once they want to feed on you. They have fast acceleration but can slow down overtime or lost interest if you get too far after they eventually stumbled. In combat they are using different types of attack, based on distance and force, which makes the combat with them more interesting. To wrap up brand new infected they will also have new visual and audio appearance which will be released gradually and will replace old models, textures and sound effects. We get together 50 different types of males and females infected, and they will be dressed in clothes you can find around so they will no longer look inconsistent with survivors. Some of them will be generic citizens, villagers but you can also look forward to different workers, clerks, policemans, soldiers, firefighters, paramedics, prisoners, patients, journalist, survivors.. and plenty of others. Soon we will be doing rehearsal with adepts for infected voiceactors and I'm quite happy where sfx direction is heading as it will delivers some shivers and goosebumps.     Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

    We definitely need airplanes , helicopters I can see being overpowered but still we should have personal helicopters (with hardly any weight capacity , and they would be large gas consumers, also it would have NO weapons) and we definitely need to have airplanes(sorry for spamming that but people don't realize how well airplanes fit into standalone !!!). Both regular airplanes and those airplanes that land on water , they should be Loud as fuck and need a lot of room to land (and most likely be only 2-3 person seater) , this would balance out the "invincibility" aspect everyone assumes someone in an aircraft would have; they would have to be so stealthy whenever they wanted to land somewhere , and would more than often have to land on fields outside of airstrips because airstrips would be too dangerous based on zombies and pvp ... And since there is truly no "safe place" in chernarus , the ones flying the airplane or helicopter wouldn't ever be able to just fly away from the apocalypse to an island and be sAfe, as there are Zeds (or will be) everywhere . No gun ships please that's what makes people say no to the aircraft idea , and make sure that the aircraft are so old (1970's Cessnas everywhere !) that there is usually one mechanical issue every couple of times you go flying (I only say this so that upkeeping the aircraft will take up most of your time so you're not a flying pvp master). But we need aircraft , first of all think of how fun the mod was with aircraft , now take away the guns from the aircraft , then think of the movie day of the dead , or dawn of the dead , those heads had a plane and a helicopter but had to be very careful with them because as mentioned in dawn of the dead the chopper takes a certain skill to fly , takes up a ton of gas , and is easily spotted and heard by bandits... So ya dawn of the dead pretty much set up the balance that standalone needs to interpret for it's aerial vehicle balance lol ! Tl;Dr: Standalone needs aerial vehicles (mostly planes) but there needs to be a huge disadvantage to driving them that it almost makes it an impossibility unless you want to upkeep its constant problems and gas issues , not to mention the issues of stealth when landing.

    True, but the flip side is that the public hives was a good anti-carebear tool. Most (not quite all), but most of the public hive servers played by the public hive rules and kept server settings at the DayZ mod defaults. You hardly ever saw shit like DMRs spawning in the super market in Elektro, Ospreys fully repaired on the coast, bicycles littered in every coastal town, fully repaired vehicles on restart, 24/7 daytime, etc etc etc. I gladly took the server hopping and combat logging as it was far less frustrating than trying to find a private hive that actually ran real settings. The private hives were largely just a popularity contest, and the server that added the more shit got more clients.

    I fail to see how 5-10 unarmed aerial vehicles would have any kind of battle over anything... What are you gonna mount a .50 cal on a crop duster? Get real. Btw, let me quote myself rq for ya. "make the choppers able to be customized and make the gun mounts really rare" So much for that comprehension you were talking about, eh? I even made it big for you this time.

    This may seem stupid

    While I see some negative feedback, I think once modding support is ready one of the smartest things a modder could do is create an armory mission for steam workshop. This would allow new players like yourself or ones who simply want to test ranges/ballistics/vehicles etc to go in and run a muck for a bit testing everything. While I don't like it as a game feature, modding support for this specifically would be a fantastic idear.

    Any Good Namalsk servers?

    I really like FinalDayZ, only problem is that it's a hardcore server with ~1-4 players on at any given moment. Maybe not your cuppa, but I'd try it out. The admins/mods are active, but won't give gear/special assistance (they will help you out, though; just not with free stuff). It has features like: MakeSmoke Ignite documents in empty soda cans for smoke grenades. NEW Immersive Journal No debug menu. Press INSERT. UPDATED Warm Clothes To prevent hypothermia find specialist clothing or craft lesser clothes from canvas. UPDATED BottleUp Rinse empty jack bottles for refillable water bottles. NEW Weapon Craft Amend weapons with scopes, suppressors, camo and launchers. UPDATED Air Drop Hack Satellite Phones to call vital air drops. UPDATED Stash Craft using a toolbox from a fuel tank, scrap, combo lock and canvas. NEWCustom Ai Missions Spawning at intervals with valuable resources to secure. UPDATED6 Hour Restarts Maintains performance whilst granting persistence. 24 hour cycle. UPDATED Poles Repel Zeds If you can find gold, you can free your plot of the un-dead.     I read (and comprehend what I've read) better than most and I write even better on the same scale, thanks. Even 10 flying vehicles per server is ridiculous. With just 5 of those operational on a single server, you'll have battles for air superiority over every map.

    I do believe I read a tweet from one of the developers somewhere that he is planning on there "only being 10-20 vehicles on an entire server". The PLETHORA of vehicles available right now is due to testing, or something like that. Point being: don't expect there to be a shit-ton of vehicles. Everyone will have "access" to them, in the sense that if they find one, AND all the parts, WHILE defending it from others, they can drive it. Not everyone will have a vehicle. There is a pretty significant difference. EDIT: I DO agree with your points. I re-read my post and it sounded like I didn't. Just to clarify.

    Having read a number of your posts, I do not believe you understand the direction DayZ has taken from the beginning. DayZ is never supposed to be about instant gratification. Nearly every aspect of DayZ is process driven. That is why there is no "reload" hotkey in DayZ.... I had a couple of opportunities to steal choppers in the mod but never did so because I knew I would likely just kill myself crashing it. Keeping vehicles near sim level to operate forces the person to either learn the right way to pilot them or suffer the consequences.

    the Huey (with exposed door guns) was present in the 'official' mod. of course there, vehicles can't be locked or secured in any way other then having it manually guarded of friends/clan members 24/7 - or stash it somewhere out-of -the-way and hope no one stumble upon it before your guys log in tomorrow. imho this is fine. you want a massive force-multiplier to have to not only go through hundreds of man-hours and hundreds of foraging trips for parts but also physically defend it 24/7 or loose it to any random who comes along an spots it. Massive diversion for group/clan resources for a massive capability reward.

    This. There should potentially be all kinds but the effort to get/operate/keep them should be extreme - something to focus group and long term efforts on. in general aerial vehicles should have more impact as possibilities and goal than as actual means of transportation or combat. Only a tiny portion of the characters should actually be directly affected by them. Private servers should have the option to enable/disable them as the much smaller economy makes their impact more binary.

    The problem with helicopters is back in the mod if my group of ~4+ got a helicopter running we owned the server until we got tired or bored. Want some action? Let's drop everyone at the edge of an airfield or city. Everyone died? Whatever, time to pick them up in the helicopter and go somewhere else. Let's comb the edge of the map or thick woods we know of for vehicles and tents. Oh hey, we found every helicopter on the server and flattened or burned more tents than we can count in the span of an hour.

    Why do people think the "Gunships" (Copters with doorguns) will be able to mow people down with no effort? (I say "Gunships" as a real gunship would be an MI-24, AKA Hind, Apache, or a Heli outfitted with rockets, ect) In the mod, they were basically useless, as it was impossible to aim with them, unless you held COMPLETLY still, thus making you extremely easy to hit with an Enfield. Every single twich the heli made threw the gun WAY off. Keep in mind, these aren't miniguns, they are 7.62mm machine guns, held by an exposed door gunner and firing at 600rpm - That will DRAIN your ammo. They are for suppressive fire - The only thing you can even hit with it is a car. You won't need an Anti-aircraft missile to shoot it down - A mosin shot threw the cockpit will suffice - One shot for up to like, 6 kills. Also, you can hear a Heli from 1000m out, that gives you plenty of time to duck behind a tree or inside a house. After all that though, I don't even want a Heli. Not for combat OPness, but because one guy with a Stolen heli can find every tent on the map in ~30min. I only want one of the most Classic DayZ vehicles - the Anotov AN-2 biplane. Useless for gear hunters, nearly useless for combat, (Unless you can drop shit from it.. grenade blitz of cherno...) and only able to land in open areas... Guess what? BARREL ROLL!

    I don't think it's selfish to want developers to work on things that get put into the game for everyone. Nobody is suggesting making brooms and hay hooks server exclusive essentially making their implementation a waste of valuable time that could be spent making content for everyone. While brooms and hay hooks may seem like trash they actually preform a vital role of populating the world with low value loot that would otherwise be useful loot if the random roll of the dice that decides what loot goes where didn't generate it the way it did. It is a quality of life change for the whole game. Giving players of a certain niche exclusive content does nothing for the people that don't care for it. That kind of stuff should be done after all the mainstream content is completed. As it stands aerial transport is Q3 meaning it gets precedence over animal companions, steam community, and construction and whatever other Q3 things it might distract from. I would rather not see everyone's content delayed to please special interests. I would prefer to have aerial vehicles put into every server though I might not like them than have that happen.
