Bio
I started DayZ about halfway through the life cycle of the mod. I was never interested in the spin-offs (Epoch, Overwatch, etc). I am not super active on the forums on account of the SA having not yet caught my interest but I occasionally lurk or return to give gifts from the Humble Bundle.

Do/Can private servers set themselves up with very little loot?
applejaxc replied to Nickisis's topic in General Discussion
If "loot restarts only every 2 days," that means that at the start of the server, all the loot is spawned in. ONLY that loot is available until 2 days pass, when more loot is spawned to replace it. So on the second day of playing, 6 hours from restart, good luck finding anything. -
Well I, personally, do not play DayZ for the PvP aspect. As a matter of fact, I greatly enjoy force-feeding bleach at gunpoint over camping with a Mosin on some hill. That being said, the redesign of the map and redistribution of high-tier loot has taken focus away from the air fields. Is Balota still a hot spot? I never have any trouble finding server-hoppers there. You can also run a circuit between the crashed ship, the air field, the town near the air field, and the town near the ship. You can hit a hospital and a weapons cache with your choice of sticking for forest or the road. It's easy to navigate without a map/compass, there's great spots for hitting the road, and you generally only have to worry about people going ship-airfield-town or town-airfield (your left and right sides). If you're careful, you shouldn't get shot in the back. As a strictly solo player, I've found it to be both (relatively) safe and I can choose to focus on looting or player hunting as the whims take me. 90% of my experience with the SA is the north-east of the map, as you can imagine.

Intel HD Graphics 1792? I have HD Graphics 3000 (which I assume is a later model), and I can get 15 FPS in the forest. http://day0.com.au/forum/arma/638-arma-3-performance-tweaks-and-settings-guide http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/ Those are my go-to ArmA optimization guides.

Is it time for single player mode yet?
applejaxc replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Are we able to host our own servers yet...? Because I'm totally going to reinstall if we can. I'm literally only on the forums when I have crap to giveaway at this point. -
I'm not interested in seeing official versions of community maps, either. I was simply giving examples of what kinds of terrains I like and what makes them fun to play; I agree completely that new maps should be new. Regardless this is the DayZ SA *Modding* map thread, not a Bohemia Interactive request forum. I would say that I'd expect more out of BI, but after ArmA 3 I'd rather see them make an official version of Bornholm than this new jungle map of theirs.

I would like to see a map that crossed the best features of Bornholm and Chernarus. I absolutely cannot stand the crap maps in ArmA 3; everything is practically open desert. It's like all the worst Battlefield maps rolled into one: There's zero cover from tanks, helicopters, airplanes, or snipers. Chern has a nice mix of forest, field, and city/town, but Bornholm for ArmA 3 has a nice blend of all three; there are hilly towns with man-made and natural cover and good, consistent tree cover. Ever since I first played it I wanted to see a DayZ version. I'd like it to borrow from Chernarus's Russian leftovers, with BMP wrecks and military installations and whatnot. It would need another airport or military base or something to prevent high-level focus on one spot of the map. The best part of its design, though, is that I think spawns near the center will be disorienting but not drop players off right next to a fully-loaded AK and bullet proof vest.

Zeds are NOT zombies; just a small FYI
applejaxc replied to barnabus's topic in New Player Discussion
As above. It's why people use the term "infected" a lot and avoid explicitly saying "zombies." Unfortunately no one enjoys a good, old-fashioned, slow zombie story anymore except TellTale Games. -
Cooperation isn't so much as "encouraged" as playing by yourself is de facto automatic failure in 99% of dealing with other players because every Dick, Jane, and Mary is using their damn TS3 to not only unrealistically communicate across the map, but to be able to respawn (with friends) and run back to their body and punish you for self defense.

Yeah. The ambiguous start of DayZ is "Somehow you have a full set of clothes in perfect condition, a working flashlight and battery, but you're on the beach and starving to death." What order of events created this?
-
This is the main issue. If only spoiled fruit can be found per 100 houses which poison you to death anyway, it's impossible to contend with the game's survival mechanics. I fully support Rocket's statement that (and this is paraphrasing) the eat-drink cycle has to be sped up considerably because if survivalists only ate and drank and often as humans absolutely needed to, no one would ever leave the forest, and that wouldn't be an exciting game, but it's compounded by piss-poor spawns and the inability to distinguish server quality without wasting half of your character's life wondering if the population is 0 because the server just started or the 30+ loot clan just left.

1: "Can I control day/night" Yes. As far as I know. (Source: Lots of 24 hour day/night servers exist) 2: "Can I control weather" I don't think so. If the mission file for DayZ was customizable, yes, but as far as my infinite knowledge of ArmA goes, I doubt rain is toggleable without an outside modification adding new moderator controls.

1. use [ media] (without the space in the first bracket) to host videos in your post. Suspicious links are suspicious. I could say this is a link to a puppy in a bear costume or this is a link to a very small hamster making a burrito. But how would you know without clicking? You know you do. Click it.

(cont) 5. Do you have a history of issues? If so, with what titles? Have you successfully played ArmA 2, 3? OPF? 6. Can you confirm you have no other software running that could potentially harm your experience? Maybe a 1337 "gamebooster," a special themes manager? Do you have an obnoxious computer theme that goes "bloop" every time you open a new folder and a mouse cursor that looks like a clown, burdened by existentialism until his application reminds him of the so essential function he performs in your life, only to ultimately realize that he's deeply unsatisfied by said existence and his depression is yet worsened by the ensuing ennui? 7. Are the results of launching the game consistent? (The same errors happen every time at about the same speed?) 8. Have you done anything to your DayZ install, like install it on a fancy partition or SSD away from Steam? 9. Most importantly and probably the most likely, right-click on your desktop and open whatever the Hell Nvidia calls their thing (Nvidia Experience?) and confirm it hasn't set anything for DayZ. The Nvidia Experience is notoriously poor with ArmA 3, in which it will set all of your graphics to absurd values and give you a 9 billion mile view distance; I am curious if it has done something similar to your DayZ without your knowledge. Similarly, right-click and click Graphic Properties or Graphic Options (I don't remember which, but one of them is the Intel equivalent to Nvidia's thing). I've never used a PC with an Intel HD 4K in it, so I have no idea how different their control panel might be, but look around (DON'T mess around) for anything that might affect your game. Unless there's some special setup you can't live without, look for any "default" buttons and use them.

For the people saying it's his Intel integrated chip's fault, it isn't. I play this game on an Intel HD 3000 (admit it; you winced reading that) and never had any trouble getting the game started. Have you: 1. Edited your config files out of game? There's 2; investigate both. 2. Forced Optimus to use your Nvidia GPU? Have you forced Optimus to use your Intel chip? (So we can clarify which card is being used) 3. Have you tried all the compatibility options and launch options? (Admin, compatibility mode, 256 colors, et cetera) 4. Have you opened the game, tabbed out and back in? Or ALT + ENTER (or other available hotkeys)? To change resolution back to native, then back to the game?

Have you tried connecting from a different Internet connection? (IE, move your PC to someone's house who CAN play DZ:SA) Just trying to narrow possibilities.
