mdmonnik@deakin.edu.au 139 Posted September 12, 2012 It is the only weapon, other than the rocket launcher, that I have never found/used
Holykittens 5 Posted September 12, 2012 The m14 is pretty cool but I like the FAL more
ZlobaRUS54 441 Posted September 12, 2012 Also my favorite gun, I will drop any weapon for it.
Jamz 253 Posted September 12, 2012 Its great vs players, bad vs zombies.. Ditched mine the other day for an M4
johan (DayZ) 21 Posted September 12, 2012 I keep finding them in deer stands. With the abundance of ammo considering how common the heli crashes are, however, I prefer the fn fal over all others any day, though.
edgaroviz 21 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) Oh, the M14 is awesome, it's my favorite weapon for up to 400-500m. Countless people never lived to see who killed them, 1 shot, broken bone, then just finish them with a pistol. If I get to a heli crash I just finish all the zombies from 200m, and loot worring about players. ptk (DayZ) 178 Posted September 12, 2012 (edited) I've never found the M14 anywhere aside from Heli Crashes. I don't know if they only spawn there or possibly in the barracks as well.^^this. (nice moustache btw)both m14's that I've come across were at crash sites. I guess I'm just unlucky...and to be honest, I like using the m14 mostly out of nostalgia, because that's what I used in iraq. Four of us went to a quickened version of sniper school in order to obtain identifiers before our troop deployed. then once we arrived, one of our missions was to sneak in and set up OP's along major routes in order to ID and eliminate confirmed insurgents planting IEDs. lesson: Don't bring a shovel to the roadside at night; its bad for your health...the M14 is reliable, has stopping power, range, and controlled fire- the best of every gun minus target saturation... but that's why you carry a 240B as well hehe... ActionManZlt 160 Posted September 12, 2012 to be honest, I like using the m14 mostly out of nostalgia, because [i've killed with it IRL].That is incredibly creepy.

Deetwo 69 Posted September 12, 2012 The m14's the best multipurpose rifle in the game in terms of pvp. It's the perfect choice for anyone's that wants to play an assault role because it's got good range (short range, mid-range, long range if you're really good at squinting your eyes and in your face range) and awesome stopping power. One clean shot can easily knock out a player or kill him if its a head shot.As for why its normally overlooked? Probably because everyone wants to be a sniper.
billyangstadt 272 Posted September 12, 2012 It's by far my fave weapon. It's a one hit kill for me.
Herr Robert 28 Posted September 12, 2012 The M14 AIM is the best primary for CQB in my opinion. It has two disadvantages to the FAL, and that would be that its wooden stock stands out more when you are using a ghillie suit in the forest and that it's incredibly loud, but those disadvantages are by far outweighted by its userfriendly aimpoint scope. Honestly, people should be using their secondaries for zombies and switch to their primaries when they need to deal with another player anyway. Honestly, people should be using their secondaries for zombies and switch to their primaries when they need to deal with another player anyway. It obviously depends on what you are going to be doing. As a sniper I rather have a reliable M14 AIM than a pea shooter like the M4A1 CCO SD for when I need to kill a hostile player up-close. For me the pistol is usually more than enough to deal with zombies anyways.
Atom Quark 437 Posted September 12, 2012 All I want for Christmas is a M-14 with Iron sights.
jason_m_perry@hotmail.com 38 Posted September 12, 2012 I love the M14 AIM. Favorite DayZ gun for sure.

So it shouldn't just be limited to players that like to snipe.
Tyratops 11 Posted September 12, 2012 Carrying one at the moment, but I don't really use it. Too loud for me (180m?).
ptk (DayZ) 178 Posted September 12, 2012 That is incredibly creepy. That is incredibly creepy.ouch! share a personal experience on the internet, get judged, get a label... I should have known better.I guess you could call it creepy, others, perhaps the families that rely on that road for their livelihood or have had to bury their children because of an IED, would call it something else...but perhaps nostalgia was the wrong word. I meant that I like the m14 because I'm familiar with it IRL. I never enjoyed killing someone, no matter what the circumstance. that's why in dayz, I usually end up being the person getting killed when trying to help someone...for some reason, i tend to make choices in dayz as I do in real life. call it immersion or idiocy, either way I'm still loving the mod.
Trojan Horse 5 Posted September 12, 2012 The m14 is like my second favorite gun. It basically does not have any bullet drop up to 300m and is a two shot kill. With a fast trigger finger one can shoot this just as fast as an m4 with double or even triple the power. It also shares mags with the dmr and the m24. Though they aren't my favorite guns in the world, they do allow you to hold less ammo and have a somewhat sniper rifle like assault rifle for close to medium range and a sniper for medium to long.Don't know why people don't pick this other than the fact that it is very loud. Perfect for PvP

codave 121 Posted September 12, 2012 ouch! share a personal experience on the internet, get judged, get a label... I should have known better. This is a good example of why I only tell funny stories...As far as the M14 goes, I have yet to find one. I'll drop whatever I'm carrying to have it. I pick up DMR mags on the off chance I come into one.
amaROenuZ 144 Posted September 12, 2012 The simple reason why people prefer the FAL over the M14 is because it's more effective in close quarters. Shorter gun, burst fire. It's also got a slightly quieter sound to the player (The FAL has more of a dull thud than the M14/DMR's crack). On the other hand, the M14 and DMR share ammo, so the space conscious bandit uses them. I pick up DMR mags on the off chance I come into one.M14s are decently rare (duplicating tents aside). I've yet to find one on military buildings, but I've found them at helicopter crash sites fairly often. And don't bother collecting DMR mags if you don't have one yet. DMR mags are so plentiful that you'll easily trip over a couple of them no matter where you go. Edited September 12, 2012 by Deetwo
