Only thing that seemed relevant to respond with was a definition

Alpha

The alpha phase of the release life cycle is the first phase to begin software testing (alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, used as the number 1). In this phase, developers generally test the software using white box techniques. Additional validation is then performed using black box or gray box techniques, by another testing team. Moving to black box testing inside the organization is known as alpha release.[2]

Alpha software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss. The exception to this is when the alpha is available publicly (such as a pre-order bonus), in which developers normally push for stability so that their testers can test properly. External availability of alpha software is uncommon in proprietary software. However, open source software, in particular, often have publicly available alpha versions, often distributed as the raw source code of the software. The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more features will be added to the software. At this time, the software is said to be feature complete.

You dont release your hobby to the rest of the world. You do it to get their opinions and your getting it. Its a hobby that generated a shitload of money for Bohemia, and rocket works for Bohemia. Again if you really think rocket didnt make a penny from this game from Bohemia then your an absolute idiot.

Rocket didn't intentionally release the mod, he posted it on an FTP site for some friends and more people found it and suddenly it was out. Rocket /now/ works for Bohemia as the lead developer for the new DayZ game that's coming out (perhaps you've heard of it?) Before then he was a contract programmer. Yes, I imagine he got a nice signing bonus and such but this mod is not his job.

Why you jumping? 1st customer service and respect to who is earning money? Don't argue if you just gonna jump to the next thing when you lose. Besides that since when did earning money = giving respect and regular updates? your post has no meaning in this thread since its completely off-topic from the original post.

EDIT: tbh reading through your post and trying to relate it to what has been said is actually very challenging. BTW no shit he got money, look how much he got for them, yet what has this got to do with anything?

That's interesting. I didn't know that.

Well, if we're going to delve into semantics... I went and got Arma 2 (and subsequently DayZ) because of DevilDogGamer's Youtube channel, of which Gump is a major part of.

You may have purchased ARMA II to play DayZ but you didn't purchase DayZ.

Comparing Microsoft and Steam to a mod's forum?? Wow... that's really balanced.

The update will be rolling when you see a topic titled: "1.7.3 rolling out...".

I totally get the moderators in here, sometimes you have to be a little harsh to make a point. Sh1t, if I were a moderator i will be closing all these useless topics. And for the guy saying that those responses are affecting his game i would like to know what extension of chrome do he uses to play dayZ in the forums. Is he respawning at the coast each time a moderator answers in a bad way?

Yes prior to dayz he was already doing contract work on arma 3. So he was already working for bohemia

And I would say that nearly 80% or more people who purchased Arma to play Dayz is due to seeing a youtuber play the game and recommend it to others which is quite the opposite of where we are leaning now.

Did you know that 80% of all statistics in forum posts are made up roughly 98% of the time?

True story.

I think the point is that people are comparing the fact of how other companies handle the people who represent them. This forum, dev team, rocket, and mod, whether they like it or not is the first link to Bohemia and the stand alone game since 99% of Arma players are here for Dayz and this forum and attitudes of dev team members, rocket, forum admins is a direct representation of the Company and the stand alone game.

Outside of some youtube interviews with Rocket, 100% of my interaction with Bohemiaj and DayZ stand alone is here.

Hey, I came to DayZ because of youtube vids. So it should be 81% ( If we assume the numbers on the site are just a ruse and there are actually only 100 players in total ).

This can be related to pretty much everything irl, things that are popular are generally spread by word of mouth, but do you really think someone who enjoys playing is gonna stop cause you tell them to? A friend of someone who happened to see your vid will stop playing cause you said they should? can't see that happening . Again though i ask, what has this got to do with anything?

P.S A fun fact, did you know 80% of percentages online are made up?

Hell I can get the actual predicted number for you if you would like. I have studied econometrics and I can poll my subs and I have a more than large enough base to give you a professional estimate if you would like. If you don't know what Econometrics is then watch the movie moneyball. Jonah Hills character? In fact I'd easily get over 1000 responses and that is enough to give you an estimate that would be super close to the actual population statistic.

Yeah, probably not.

Subs != people who definitely play, or who only started playing after they say your apparently fantastic videos.

Any number you give is little better than a guess.

I don't have to tell them to quit playing. They already did. Steam posts the numbers daily and the number is at around 6k per day peak. In JUNE that was like 70k. LOL. It's a fact dude, people already quit.

The self-entitlement that runs rampant on these forums is astounding. You're lucky that Rocket largely seems to ignore the ocean of tears and tornadoes of entitlement that comes spewing forth from these forums. If I were Rocket, I'd just as soon start DB banning the self entitled players and blacklisting servers with whiny admins. If they want to cry non-stop about how entitled they are, that'd help them go find a new game and not have to worry about "how terrible" <x> and <y> are.

But, I'm not Rocket. So, all I can do is yell at those people and have the response from those folks be "OH YEAH? WELL, <reasons they feel they're entitled to everything ever>".

Note that I operate a DayZ server myself, so no crying about "Well we're paying $xx for a server and we feel we're thusly entitled to <list of bullshit>". Paying money to host a DayZ server entitles you to nothing from anybody. It just means you like the game enough to spend money on it. That's it.

Even if 1.7.3 never were to come out (it is coming out), no one gets to bitch. Rocket owes you nothing. Stop crying. *shakes finger and scolds* I said stop it!

Sigh... continue on, folks. Rage forth and don thy angry panties!

I said "you", not "them".

You don't know the breakdowns of your sub numbers vs players (and a whole load of other variables).

So yes, numbers that you come up with will be guesses.

Right... from a self-entitled player. Did you think I was agreeing with the OP? Hahaha.

EDIT: Oh, ahaha. Yeah, you're the OP. No, sir. I don't agree with you at all. my post was directed at players like you specifically.

Polling your audience wouldn't give you biased numbers at all, would it? Of course, you know that...

Ah Gumpnstein I just checked out your youtube vids. You have only around 2.5k subscribers?! I thought you were some kind of a big shot. No offense but if even you decide to give DayZ a negative review and all your subscribers will follow your recommendation I don't think (and I am just assuming here) that will have a negative impact on DayZ at all. What about those guys who are still having fun with DayZ in its current state including hackers, noobkillers, snipers, bugs etc and they have like 90k, 100k, 200k subscribers.

Somehow I get the feeling you are pulling stuff out of the thin air...Is your BA even real?! Are you even 32?! o_O
