We live in a world where even in the most advanced societies, we need 1-800-SUICIDE lines for people that are so unhappy with their lives, they are ready to turn life off, forever, as far as they know. Can you imagine that, feeling that bad? On your worst day, did you did ever try and kill yourself it was so bad? Did you ever have so few hobbies or things you were interested in or things to look forward to? Unhappy people are everywhere, and here is probably one of the bigger reasons: When we humans were tadpoles, we probably had to develop some mechanism to stop being fascinated by a shiny colored rock, and thus return back to a neutral emotional state so we could continue looking out for predators. Those that couldn't stop the flow of endorphins probably sat their until they were eaten. ...The point just being to hammer home the fact that the people on the other end of those avatars you see in the game are not rich, selfish, executives trying to hunt you down, they're just people trying to have a little bit of fun in their short lives. A few are trying to escape from their short lives. Thats pretty sad to consider.

Short lives? Yup. Im 35 and im amazed at how fast the weeks just fly by at this age. Its unbelievable. Your perception of time speeds up when you get older if you didn't know. I feel like im going to be 60 years old soon. I started noticing this at about 32. From this perspective, its very apparent at how short our lives are. So we have short lives and many of us sadly have emotionally neutral lives at best....and a lot of those people are playing DayZ. There are also many quad and paraplegics who game i've found out, like the one who posted a question a controller the other day on avsforum. I first began to realize how sad and sort of fragile people are when i was in my 20s, and its slowly began dawning on me over many years. Im sure there are lots of older people who play DayZ considering the average age of a gamer was 32, and that was 10 years ago. 60% of working people are supposedly not happy with their jobs if you didn't know. School being 6 hours per day, work being 8 hours or more, plus commute and your boss\es.

I am a house painter. I personally have a boss who belittles me, I think so that he can make it seem like the low wages he is paying me are justified. My co-workers and I believe he lies to us about how much time he bids jobs for to get us to work harder than we already do, a common tactic in the construction industry. We frequently don't take breaks due to the pressure of trying to get the jobs done. We work hard, and i sometimes wonder if the 7 year shorter life span of men is due to the physical stress men have doing manual labor. I had severe depression when i was young and didn't have a dad who wasn't interested in talking with me. For those reasons and others, i don't live a very social life, so games for me are my go-to place to get some endorphins flowing.

Yesterday, all 47 people on one sever were brought to the same point in space and then killed off. I was also killed on two other servers by hackers yesterday and two other times by game bugs. Today, a hacker tried to kill everyone on the server again using the same technique and another hacker spawned behind me to tried to kill me, and i had for the first time gotten a silenced M4 i found off a dead guy who was apparently sniping over Chernogorsk. I had just killed a bandit with the same skin running blindly out of a barn, seeking some payback maybe? But he had just killed two others i saw so thats some collateral damage in the name of "revenge". I wonder how little endorphin flow they got taking the 2 seconds to kill me, then moving on...and that vs. the dampener put over my short weekend day.

I'm beginning to realize that the difference between a serial killer, racist, or an asshole and your typical "nice" person (or whatever) is the amount of time they've spent putting themselves in the shoes of others, not just day by day, but minute by minute. So please, take more than a second to think about what its like to be your victim, minute by minute, second by second, because there are real world consequences and please picture this: When I get hacked to death, i just sit back in my chair, with paint marks on my fingers and stare blankly at my window blinds in my small apartment, pretty much expressionless, wondering what people with lives are doing out there, its Sunday and i have get up at 6:15am tomorrow to go to a depressing job with a boss that gives me anxiety, and i could keep going...

So please, be considerate.

If you agree with the sentiment of this post, please bump it.

No, they (and you?) just need to understand that were not your real life enemies, but your effecting other people you don't even know IN REAL LIFE. Seeing a monopoly board fly across the room might be a good time, but if people were playing on it, maybe its not the greatest idea to fling it. Thats what your doing.

3 times in the past two days, I've seen whole servers killed now. ALL THOSE PEOPLE effected IN REAL LIFE by people simply havn't thought about being on the other end of the hack, times 50.

I just can't believe these people would kill a bunch of guys with 1000's of zombie kills. Thats loads of time down the drain.

Hello there

Empathy in the real world and on the 'net is unfortunately in woefully short supply.

There is also little one can do about it. shame.

I like the lack of empathy on the net (in some respects) because people say what they feel and the truth of how they feel gets out. But in the game hacker's lack of empathy is simply due to an ignorance of the real world damage they're doing to people time and emotions. Half the people playing the game are probably using it to escape their

Hackers, go down to the docks or your nearest industrial area, look at all the 60+ year old workers and their solemn faces and their faces and tell me you want to ruin their weekend. Now you go a fuck up 50 peoples day at once.....

I don't feel empathy, nor can I sympathize. But I'll try to remain respectful of the OP's situation.

OP. Meet with your boss in private, and try to discuss the issues you have with him in a civil and calm manner (note: CALM, as in, not nervous). Do not show weakness, stress or too much discomfort.

If he attempts to insult you, threaten to fire you, or whatever, stand up for yourself. Threaten to quit, and potentially call a lawyer for his harassment (Don't quit, get fired, unemployment checks). Do not start a physical fight. If he gets physical, involve other people (witnesses).

If you don't stand up for yourself, people will continue to put you down. You are equals, no matter his age, job title, or amount of money he has. If he refuses to see it, that's his problem. Don't be mistaken for a weakling, ignoring him and pretending it isn't happening won't do you or anyone else any good.

If meeting with him does not solve the issue, go over his head.

If there is no one over his head, find a lawyer and see what you can do.

I like the lack of empathy on the net (in some respects) because people say what they feel and the truth of how they feel gets out.

I don't need the net to say what i feel, i'm a straightforward guy and say it in your face even if it means running into a fist. That's why i don't have many friends but better a few real friends who respect who you are than "friends" who suck your dick and talk behind your back later.

A persons behaviour when anonymous is the best indicator on how a person really is...

Hello there

Empathy does not equate to "sucking dick", that's a very out of date POV. I used to work on the doors of Nightclubs and empathy (seen the other person's POV) can go a long way when dealing with "difficult" customers.

Sometimes, holding your tongue can assist a situation immensely in both tricky situations and "friendship" ones.

It doesn't mean one has to lie or be deceitful and regardless, if I have mates who bitch behind my back, whether I talk to them bluntly or not, then they were never friends to begin with.

You're right about the anon behaviour though, it can be a good indicator, but it's not 100pc reliable.

I quit playing this game/Mod due to the amount of hackers.

It's pathetic... especially when one stops to consider the ramifications. It's not the game which sucks... it's Humanity which sucks. Humans did not reach the top of the food chain by being honorable, moral, and principaled. Humans reached the top of the food chain because they are cheats, liars, cutthroats, murderers, and otherwise vile.

Keep that lesson in Humanity in mind when playing virtual games and you may be better able to stomach the hacks which proliferate in this game/Mod.

Hi thane,

I've read your story, and really wanted to give you some advise here. Listen mate you should really change your attitude and get out of the victem role.

I only encountered 2 hackers. The first time it was a "nice"hacker. i just spawned at the coast. I saw this guy. He asked me if i needed anything. I replied with "no thanks". Suddenly I was wearing a gilly and had all the high end stuff. He spawned an helicopter, and asked me if i wanted to join him (he spoke the same language as i did, same country) I put off all the gear, backpack and gilly. And said "no", and just left him there with his helicopter. And continued with the game how i play it. The decent way.

Second time i had put a lot of effort in my character. took a lot of risk at the airport., had all kinds of experiences with it. Then a hacker killed everyone on the server. First i thought, "damn what's going on?" and then i realized it was a hacker. I just thought fuck 'm, i''ll just start over", and thought of the possitive side. Starting all fresh, and try to get good gear and life back.

You must realize that those hackers are just poor guys without any spine. They aren't happy with their life. They just seek something to bypass the effort they should put into the game to really accomplish something in a game. They cannot accomplish those things without hacking. That's why you have to ignore them. If it happens, ignore them and move on. That's how I did it, and it worked well.

Now i can imagine that if it happens every day you cannot ignore that. and just try another game. But this has not been the case for me.

Now, I'm not one of the youngsters. I'm 39, and i'm a busdriver in the shitty. Every day the same shit. But i like my games. Mostly Pro evolution soccer, and DayZ. That's what keeps me sane. Having some fun in a shitty life. ;) (besides vacation and walking in the mountains during weekend) Something to look forward to. Don't let those losers ruin that. These are spineless assholes, just like the one's you encounter in real life. The're everywhere. JUST IGNORE THEM! AND PLAY ON!

(edit: just to let you know. I do take the game seriously. I put many hours in it. I play like i would act in real life. I never kill anyone just for the points. I just try to survive as long as possible, But, i will never let those cheaters ruine my fun in gaming)

I read your story. Hackers will be what they are, for whatever reason that they chose. I hope that this thread brings some of them to a full realization of what they have done.

@ -DarylDixon- then you have been extremely lucky. I'm 39 this month, and I've encountered so many cheaters, that the prospect of starting over, maybe multiple times in one day, has driven me away from the mod. I watch youtube vids of others playing, livestreams, and lurk on the forums, but just can't bring myself to start again knowing the effort will be for naught because an 11 year old (or someone with the mental age and social responsibility of a preteen) decides to kill me and everyone else on the server at the click of a button.

I'm subscribed to over 40 youtube Dayz uploaders, and the vast majority aren't making vids any more for the same reasons.

After a serious motorcycle accident and a recovery that is taking years, DayZ and other games are one of my outlets to stop me going insane from being housebound. Cheaters have no concept of other people and their circumstances. They simply don't see other players as people. All that matters to them is their own instant gratification. When people defend cheating and/or berate others for thinking that cheaters are the scum of the earth, because it is "just a game", for some of us, it is more than that. It is an escape, and cheaters violate and destroy that for us.

@ osirish

You could try to find a private passworded DayZ server (there are quite some). Or rent/setup a server with a couple of serious players in the same continent (just a few euro/dollars each). That way cheaters can't enter that world . Start a post here or in a gaming forum and try to find some that would like to rent a private server together. If you're from england, i might even join, since I'm from europe ;) You could even aggree to a green zone. I've seen a couple of private servers that have that. like a little part in the south near the coast. where is aggreed not to shoot each other.

And, in your post you already mentioned the reason (nl: they don't care) why you shouldn't ruin your fun in gaming by them. they're bugs in the system, and should be threated like that. As a bug. It's not your mistake that you died by the cheater in the game. It's a bug.

I'm fourteen, I have few work stresses or worries. I am a secular humanist.

I am a medic in-game. I help people because I'd want another person to do the same. It gives me joy and I'm quite sure it gives others the same sense of happiness.

I've never been hacked in DayZ, but I know what they do. It makes no sense to me, why intentionally make someone miserable?

Like every living thing on this planet, I will die, but I hope I will have made people happy during my life.

OP, you have my beans.

Sadly, no hacker will have the attention span to read through this, since even a game like dayZ seems to get old for them...

I agree with you, but getting your luck out of computer games solely isn't going to help on the long run, people on the internet just have too much anonymitie and too little consequenses, and no one seems to be able to stop them from being jerks

I currently am on a server with no hackers whatsoever, just send me a PM and i will tell you the name of the server, you only need to join up in TS and ask someone for the password

Since official servers don't give admins the might to punish those hacking themselfes legaly, i joined up with people to have a private hive server

Of course there are jerks, but without them the game wouldn't be thrilling, at least the jerks on our server don't hack, or get banned directly after

The long story was a bit unnecessary, because the audiance you seem to be aiming at don't care. If your 35 you should've realised by now that everyone is a cunt. There are some that are less cunty but at the end of the day everyone is a cunt

All gamers (More specifically, all PC's) should have a unique ID which cannot be changed and is consistent across all games. Found hacking in one game? Fuck you. You're gonna have to buy a new PC if you want to play ANY other game. You don't deserve a second chance. Obviously 100% proof of hacking would be needed to dish out a ban like this, but really, most hacks can be proved (especially in DayZ). If nothing else, at least it would be a deterrent.

Obviously this is incredibly idealistic, but I'd love to see it.

More than likely the hackers are having a worse time in real life than you. I know it's hard to swallow but I honestly cannot see someone who is happy with themselves not relishing a challenge, over hacking to grief people.

Also to help you get through try and remember there is literally always someone worse off than yourself. You have a job, a cool PC. A roof over your head. You have an entire community of like minded dayz players reading and empathising with you, players who are also muddling through RL with their own set of problems.

Also with regards to dayz, surviving successfully will leave you with nothing to do. Slow it down and enjoy the journey, the closer you get to full awesome gear the less you'll find to do.

or maybe some hackers are 14 year old kids, you cant tell if people hacking are all under bad life conditions, and i dont think it's an excuse either, i hope with the standalone those people get banned, as they seem to be when Battleye rolls out ban waves

most younger hackers cry afterwards for being banned and want a second chance, though they've been told there isn't any second chance after hacking

you can say their parents didn't educate them well enough, or they had a hard childhood or whatever, still some things are socialy unacceptable and must be punished

there have to be rules, else it will be no fun for anyone
