Ozelot (DayZ)

In a real life situation like DayZ, 'basic' weapons would be very common.

Guns are extremely easy to find.

I have an M16A3 ACOG with like 17 stanags, and a PDW with 7 mags.

Raid stary or NWAF once, see how many AKs and AKMs you find.

This is the deciding point sadly.Do I make a game that is harshly realistic and to point where people will be running around weaponless and crawling everywhere to avoid the infection OR do I make a game that allows people to grab guns and then battle it out.Its not a choice I would wanna make....yet I feel that it could easily be cured with a server choice of spawn rate.

In a situation like DayZ, the .22 would be king.

Seriously. You can carry over 1000 rounds of .22 ammo in some cargo shorts. It's light. It's cheap. It's accurate. It's quiet. And moreover, it's absurdly plentiful.

Just make military weapons harder to find. This is goddamn Russia; you are going to have Mosin Nagants and Makarovs scattered about. Hell, im sure hunting rifles are just as common in Russia as they are America.

I wouldn't be suprised if you raided a store in russia they and have a few guns laying around, or raid a military base and find 200+ surplus AKs, SKS' or Mosin Nagants laying around with a couple thousand rounds of 7.62x39/54 sitting about.

Edit: .22

I don't think .22s are as common in Russia. You would probably find more 7.62 variants and 9mm/9.22mm ammo for Makarovs.

This game is crying out for a better melee system IMO. I know its not supposed to be 100% realistic, but if i'm moving even slightly the melee aim is FUBAR. There should be a greater variety of melee weapons, from bats to iron bars to knifes, even your hands and feet if you're desperate. Pistol whipping and rifle butts should also be available. I've no idea how easy or hard this would be to code, but i'd like to see it implemented in a standalone...

It's a gameplay factor mate.

If you want to start bitching about realism in it then why oh why is there so many Lee-Enfields in a former Soviet country and no Mosin-Nagants?

Or why is the Lee-Enfield called the Lee-Enfield MkIII by the ammo when the model is clearly a Mark4?

Or why you have to consume approximately 73 litres of fluid per 24 hours to stay alive, or eat 32 cans of baked beans per day, or why your car uses 1L of fuel every few metres...

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I find guns extremely easy to find, and never have trouble with ammo.

I could care less how much I waste, it's easy to find.

Agreed gun are very easy to find. But you do feel ammo is a bit rare? I mean you do care a little bit about that?

You make some great points.

weapons caches with 155 or 122 artillery rounds that could be repurposed and used for IEDs or VIBEDs.

O_O Those would be amazing. Artillery shells are extremely deadly in arma 2. A HE round 50m away could kill you in game.

Any person inside 40m is toast.

Not in a former soviet state that just finished fighting a civil war, seriously 7.62x39 is the more common than .22 by a ratio of 10000000/1 in east block countries. (not saying it shouldn't be in the game, just pointing it out.)

Sorry my bad that I didn't read the previous comment and jumped to answer this one.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing the hunting knife work as a weapon as well. As dangerous or more stronger than the hatchet, but they need to be a lot closer. So you can go around puncturing livers from survivors and then they would have no way to clean there cologne.

A hatchet's deadlier than a hunting knife. Hatchets can sever limbs and crack skulls.

They're probably the only weapon in the game other than the .45, rocket launcher, and grenade with anything resembling realistic damage potential right now.

I "own" over 100 various firearms, so I'm good.

My brother owns loads of crossbows, so I'm good.
