Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.

Recommended Posts

Seriously? The mod and environment has changed drastically since launch, yet the ruleset is still the same?

We have hackers running amok on our server, and I can't do ANYTHING to stop them? The easiest solution would be for me to password the server and set up a whitelist that is open to anyone, yet I can't because I'm not allowed to password the server. Instead, I have to see all the money paid for the server go down the drain while hackers render the game unplayable on our server?

Seriously?

Revise your server rules, because things can't keep going on like they are now. It's simply not working.

I have to agree!!

The arbitrary rules are why people are slowly switching to private hives. If he doesn't want this to continue happening, the rules needs to be looked at. People need to be able to administrate their own servers. The rules feel like it's something EA came up with, not a community mod.

The best thing that all players can do is capture video proof for every possible hacker. With the footage you can send thi to the Dayz team and request a ban. At least try.

again with people asking for passwords? look I know hacking is a problem and that server admins have 0 power right now but this is not the solution. Passwords will only lead to server abuse. We need the ability to moderate the servers not lock them.

While I'll agree the hackers are a huge headache for server admins, but it seems like everyone is losing sight of this being an Alpha. Password protecting the server only isolates the server and slows down development. Yes, hackers are incredibly annoying, but a necessary evil for development. They point out flaws and weak points in this mod (and in ARMA). Keyword not to forget about when playing this game and/or hosting a server, it's an Alpha.

Have any servers actually been blacklisted for passwording or is it an empty threat? So far I'm edging towards the latter.

What would you rather have? A few asshole moderators ruining their own servers while an equal amount run by non-abusive admins are available to play on, or all servers being unplayable due to hackers?

We have officially said no more. Canceled our server after being threatened with blacklist for (((((((LOCKING OUR SERVER DOWN WITH NO PLAYERS IN IT)))))))

We aren't even allowed to lock it empty... god forbid we were to shut it down.... I have seen threads about people wanting to blacklist servers for being shut down. This has been a waste of over $100.00 to my clan.

To ask for a refund i guess is a total waste of time...

To the last guy saying this is an alpha....

YOU SIR ARE CLUELESS

This mod is being run on ARMA2 it has been around quite a long time....

Saying this is an Alpha is like saying,They are making this game DayZ from the ground up. You sir don't know anything about this subject.

Indeed, while the mod is in alpha, the cheat detection has nothing to do with DayZ and everything to do with Arma 2.

I know this is a mod, but you know if it's so simple why don't you write your own mod and make it better? Oh right, you can't. This mod has constant updates, patches, bug fixes, one of the most active development mods I've played with in a long time. It's an ALPHA mod, in development, not an official release, it has bugs, issues, etc.

Indeed, while the mod is in alpha, the cheat detection has nothing to do with DayZ and everything to do with Arma 2.

And Zoop is right, the majority of the hacking (more like script kiddies) attacks flaws in ARMA 2 and Battleye. But locking a server is not the answer to anything.

Again, hacks have nothing to do with this being an alpha. Hacks are BattlEye and Bohemia's responsibility.

This being alpha has nothing to do with hackers being something we need to tolerate. Every game is hacked and will continue to be hacked till people stop paying for them which is not going to happen in my lifetime.

That is not something that is simply developed out of the game.

There needs to be some safety net that allows everyone in the server to be protected from being pulled into an area and bombed to death and losing what really needs to be worked on. Because, that is what destroys developement. We can all simply say "lets not play till a lot of things get changed" Or "lets come back at a later time when this is all handled better" And how does that make the game get developed faster?

If password protecting seems like a bad idea now just wait because, it gets worse. Why do you think that games like CoD and BF allow admins all the power they can take to keep there servers clean? Because, if they (EA and Activision) had to stop the hacking they would fold up overnight because, it is a fulltime job for a lot of people to keep it clean. So they give you all the admin'n you can stand and throw in PB for the ground floor hackers and say good luck. Rocket and his team are thinking big and I love the idea and I think its great but, they can not sideline admins to let me and my team deal with it and you just keep on.. keeping on. Oh yeah and trust us to make it right. They can control the items to a point but, the real botters?? The radar and aimbotters--they will never control. Only admins can pick up on that stuff.

The Buzz is now and if the 800k players playing now are all getting tired of the BS that goes on with the simple script kiddies that are doing the minimal ground floor singleplayer hacking to disrupt the game--what are all these people going to do when the real hackers can start making money from this?? And I am talking about the aimbotters and the radar junkies.

If this simple stuff cant be put down now and in quick order.. this game is in for a surprise when the real baddies come to town.

Nobody said anything about the MOD... I love it... it is fun as hell.

The rules we have to follow ( WE BEING THE GUYS PAYING$$$$$$$$$ TO RUN SERVERS) are a joke.

We have to allow hacks and scripts to run around in our servers.

We see a guy teleporting shit and lock our server and kick everyone... 10 mins later we get a message from our SP that they have received a message from DayZ STAFF that we are not allowed to lock our server. PISS OFF...

Allowing punk script kiddies to run a server we are paying for is not gonna happen.

Allowing the punk kids to come in here and cry foul when they get banned for using exploits... then sending threats to the Server admins... " you know... The guys who are paying $$$$ " ... yeah thats a real great way to run things.

Then telling us we have to show proof... SHIT!!!! we had to change our server from veteran back to Normal just to get names of guys battle discoing then take the time to sit around and record every encounter so when we ban a player we won't get blacklisted.... FUK THAT.... so when do we get to actually enjoy the game?? WHEN DO WE GET TO PLAY THE GAME AND NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH ASSHATS USING SCRIPTS AND EXPLOITS???

Answer: we don't.

We have to deal with server provider threatening to blacklist our server ... then we have to go upload a video encounter... then while we are doing that ...the guy is teleporting every player on our server into a market and turning them into cows... then standing ther with an automatic crossbow blazing steel bolts into them...

Yeah...those players are going to come back to our server... PISS OFF!

I'm currently renting a server from Vilayer.

I'm also a new player, could someone provide me a link to the rules of what I'm allowed to do and not to do?

I don't want to do something that I never knew I wasn't supposed to do.

I would very much appreciate it.

Here are the rules. Will you follow them to the letter like some of us do? Probably not. Someone always has to break one of them.

BEWARE - The same restrictions apply to Non-Dev run servers!

- IT MAY NEVER BE PASSWORDED

- NO OTHER KEYS OR MODS. NONE. PERIOD.

- NO KICKING TO MAKE ROOM FOR 'FRIENDS' OR CLANMATES

- NO LOCKING THE SERVER

- NO EDITING DAYZ/MISSION FILES

- IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO UPDATE YOUR SERVER TO THE LATEST VERSION OF DAYZ

-BATTLEYE MUST BE ENABLED

- Minimum slot count of 40 (30 for countries where bandwidth is expensive i.e. developing countries)

- Their are only two reasons why you, as a server owner, should ban a player on your server. Those two reasons are: Malicious talk, and racism. You may not ban a user for stealing your loot, killing you, spying on you, etc.

- You may only kick for disruptive behavior (such as continued VOIP over side channel). But you may not kick due to race or language or because the person does something you do not like.

- Kicking for extremely excessive ping or desync is permitted, but if abused is grounds for blacklisting

Failure to adhere to these rules will BAN YOUR SERVER'S IP from DayZ.

Yeah! These are some solid rules and I agree with all of them. I think people are just suggesting adding one or two more reasons for banning people, like when someone's ghosting around the map every time they see a player or are shot at. Oh, and possibly to do something to defend all those players from being teleported to one spot and being mowed down by a weapon that they spawned in.

It's not an awful thing to ask for. Well ok, maybe it is when it's asked for about 1000 times but who's fault is that really?

However admins should be able to ban players too if they see blatant hacking.

The more people we have policing this sort of crap the better. Sure, some players may be unfairly banned in the process but that's a small price to pay for the good of the community. And if a player is unfairly banned there's always other servers. As long as he's doing the right thing it's unlikely he will be banned again.

Yeah, I agree, problem is, that is already happening, people are abusing that excuse "He was hacking" Got proof? They say No, cause they claim they dont need it, cause again, its their server. If you dont have proof, to cover your ass, when a Dev comes inquiring about it, especially of the person you banned has proof your lying, then kiss that server goodbye.

DAMN those people. I do understand where you're coming from. Give us admin an inch and some douche will take a mile. Not all admin are awful, I've personally lost all my crap on multiple occasions, including vehicles I've repaired. I've never once Alt+F4'd or aborted. I take my death, learn from my mistake and continue on.

Note, I do quit and come back every time a military base appears due to that graphic issue being fixed in the next patch, god I hate that thing.

But some of these players are taking advantage of the strict ban/kick system and openly exploiting the way DayZ is envisioned. I mean they're literally taking a dump on said vision, it's ridiculous how blatant some people are while cheating/exploiting.

Saying there are only 2 reasons you can ban someone from a server, especially these two reasons, is moronic. Player A spawns a heli in front of me, I kick/ban him. Player A complains that I abused.my power, I get a email from SP saying I can't.do that, reverse ban or get server removed. Completely stupid.rules, no other multi player game has a rule set like this for there server admins to follow NONE.

Can anyone list me a game that has the server admins provide proof to the dev team that someone is/was hacking.
