  1. I really hope they can recapture that feeling of helplessness we had originally. I remember my first two weeks of DayZ was spent dying, not surviving. After that avoiding zombies started to come naturally, but zombies were still a major threat because they never stopped chasing you. It was unrealistic when zombies would chase you or miles, but zombies just became a complete non-issue when they implemented the feature that allowed you to lose them. There wasn't a corresponding increase in zombie difficulty to make up for the ease with which zombies could be evaded. Before we could lose zombie aggro running full-speed through Cherno was unthinkable.
  2. As long as the Makarov and Lee Enfield make it into the game, I'll be satisfied.
  3. Sadly, I doubt it. The initial exploration and learning the game mechanics was possibly some of the best times I had in this game, but now that I know the ins and outs and I know how to 'game' the system, I don't think it can ever be recaptured. I actually missed that feeling of wonder so much that I tried out the WarZ (yes, you can rightfully scorn me), but sadly it was so much a carbon copy of DayZ that it simply did nothing for me. I expect I'll still enjoy the SA, but I'll never relive those 'golden' days I had last year.
  4. I actually did manage to get revenge on the first person to betray me, though it's not really a very epic story. Having my own server with a set of regular players probably helped in this, though. It was somewhere around last year June, if I remember correctly, me and this guy were banditing the coast together when he makes the decision to go our separate ways by shooting me. About two weeks later I'm hanging around Krasnostav with a group of friends when he starts talking on the side channel. He claims to be at the NE airfield, so I asked one of my friends to tell him that he's alone in Krasnostav and he needs morphine. We were camping the hill south of Krasnostav, expecting to see him enter the town. At this point I only had a Lee Enfield so my hope for hitting him if he's in the town wasn't very high. Lucky for me, he has more or less the same idea for us and comes running across the open field towards the hill we're camping on. So I took a shot at him from about 300 or 400m away and miraculously he goes down in a spray of blood. I then ran up to his unconscious body and just as he was starting to get up I shoot him in the head with my Makarov at point blank range after which I type in side chat 'that's for betraying me, you bastard.' It isn't even a very epic story, but I have simply never felt that smug in a game before. It was incredible and it was one of those moments that made me fall in love with the game. There's still another guy I've sworn revenge on, though he didn't betray me, he merely got me (and half of our group) killed through sheer idiocy. We had just gotten to Stary and were sitting on the hill just before the shop when we saw some guy in a ghillie suit rummaging through the military tents. Despite the fact that we had not had a chance to properly assess the situation and looked around to see if the ghillie suit guy had friends nearby, this moron starts firing at him from clear across Stary with a DMR. Then we got swarmed by zeds and as we're trying to escape from them we get mowed down by two other snipers who were keeping lookout for their friend. Only the moron and one other guy out of a group of 6 survived. I haven't seen him on my server in ages, but one day I'll get my revenge. One day...

As a server admin on a private server, this will be considered server-disruptive behavior on ours. First offence will get a warning and if it happens again a temporary ban. On the global channels anyway. You can do what you want on Direct chat (aside from discrimination, insults, flamewars), unless you do it excessively.
  6. The problem is that the mod is currently stagnant. There isn't nearly enough content in it to keep players occupied for long. If you don't shoot other players, what is left to do? Run around the map and collect gear? Because we've already done that millions of times.
  7. Thank you for reviving an argument that was resolved more than 5 months before your post.
  8. On a private server, yes. Considering you're not supposed to report admin abuse on private servers here I didn't bother writing a guide for them. DayZ devs can't do anything to guys abusing their powers on private servers, so it's pretty much pointless writing a guide for something you're not supposed to report here, isn't it?
  9. Just do what most of us did; switch to a private hive. It works much better than a public hive server and you don't have to deal with the ridiculous restrictions the DayZ devs put on server hosts.
  10. Quick question regarding this and private hives (sorry of this has been answered before), but does this kick before the item is saved to the hive, or after it has saved? Reason I ask is because of the fact that it is a private hive, hackers cannot go to another server to drop the item, meaning that if a hacker spawns in an item and it saves to the hive, he will be kicked every time he tries to join because he cannot get rid of the item he spawned for himself. So, is this how it works? Would be awesome if it does because then it basically becomes an auto-ban for the hacker the moment he spawns himself an illegal weapon.
  11. Why should it go in either the graveyard or private hive discussion. It is neither spam, nor is it exclusively related to private hives. Or is this what the DayZ forums are now going to become? A place where every second person tries to see how many threads he can get into the graveyard?
  12. Urgh, just need to vent. After our recent switch to a private hive our Chernarus server has seen a giant influx of traffic again, and with that, it seems a few lesser desirables. Ever since we did the switch we've been bombarded by complaints from players because they do stupid things that get themselves killed, then they want to have hissy fits about it. Had a player who almost had an aneurysm this morning because he keeps going into Cherno and Elektro when the server is busy and expects not to get killed simply because he's a new spawn. I mean, look, I understand that it sucks that going to Cherno and Elektro means dealing with camping snipers, but really? Cherno and Elektro has always been bandit hotspots. On any full server going there is pretty much asking for trouble. Why keep going there if you know it's going to get you killed, and then get angry about it? I'll never understand people like that.
  13. Okay, just to start things off, this is what I posted on another forum, and it got quite a bit of agreement from the guys, so we're looking at ways to bring our servers back to what they were before the duping bugs became so common; So, we're looking at removing tents entirely from our server. The issue is, the storage/duping issue will continue through vehicles, which we don't want to remove entirely. Does anyone know if there is any way that we can change vehicles so you can't store anything in them?
  14. So seeing as the server uses a lunar cycle to determine how dark it is at night, would there be any way to force it to stick to a time during the cycle when it is light? Our servers empty out most nights simply because the night in ArmA2 is way, way too dark at times and it would be nice if we can make a compromise between having it just dark enough that lighting tools are necessary, but not dark enough that it looks like your monitor is off when your flashlight is off.
  15. Server rules don't need beefing up at all, because admins aren't allowed to ban you for no good reason. What needs to be beefed up is the enforcement of the rules.
