Just don't play a nighttime server, simple as that!

We don't all live in regions that have nighttime servers, so feel free to climb down from that high horse.

Agree with OP.

Night time is way too dark and I hear people cry "but it's realism!", well, the counter argument to that is if it was real, your eyes would adjust to the darkness eventually, but they don't in this mod which makes the realism argument nul and void.

Something needs to be tweaked as most people I know wont play at night because they consider it to be bordering on unplayable. You also have to take into account that most people have real lives outside of the uber realistic game which means either playing with an awful ping, or being forced to play in the dark.

Aye and its what I sadly find myself doing... I usually attempt night first.. as I do like the night time and added security of it.. however when it turns pitch black.. Im out.. I can deal with it when there is minimal illumination but seems every night a large majority of it there is none.. just pitch black which is bs. and then Im off to find a day server.

Although I do agree it is quite dark, it does add another feel to the game. The risk of using flares and being spotted and such. Still fun during the night. Though it is not realistically always that dark, it does give use to flares and NVG.

Hmm, what a great idea. Now why didn't anybody else think of that?

Or maybe they did, you numpty. But as has been said in other posts, you have to play with a high ping, or, troll through dozens of servers because they're all bloody night time, like they were last night. It didn't matter what servers me and some friends went to, be it in Dallas, Virginia, or Norway, they were all night time.

NIGHT IS AS DARK AS REAL LIFE! try living on the county side of Finland/russia and go into the deep woods on a cloudy night.

Most of my gaming time is during night time. Have adjusted a bit with the video settings, but haven't touched my monitor settings at all. Me and my group can see just fine and no noobing or NVGing here. We have gone through Cherno (which is easy to scavenge at night) also have scavenged Stary Sobor and NW airfield (which are bit harder i think)

But anyways my opinion is that night time is bit easier to play as the Zeds can't see you that easily so you don't have to prone past them all the time.

But this is ofc my opinion, if ppl think that it is too dark for them to play then it effing is too dark to play.

One thing i noticed is that when i bought new monitor like 3 months ago it is like 10 times brighter on default settings than my 3 yrs old was. So that might be one factor too. If u have old monitor the brightness is alot darker than in new ones.

During my training exercises here in Germany I can remember many times walking through the forest and not even being able to see my own feet.

Exercise patrol through a patch black forest is something of an experience, moving through one while firing blanks is probably one of the funniest things I ever did.

If you want to play at night crank HDR to highest and set your gamma and brightness to max (in game). You'll see just fine, it'll just be in black and white. HDR makes a way bigger difference than the gamma settings because it refracts the light off way more surfaces.

I used to hate the night time, now I love it. Way easier to sneak past zombies and far less competition for good loot.

Servers are not forced to run on any specific time (just when they set a server time, it needs to be same and moving forward), so nothing is stoping server providers to make few inverted daytime servers, or eaven you renting one, and setting the time that fits you the best (Morning at 5pm or whatever).

My only issue is that it isn't realistic dark.

Go out in a forest on a moonless night, you can't see anything which is exactly how this game functions.

I've lived in the Country, and after a few minutes, your eyes adjust. Is that represented in the game? Or should I adjust my brightness and gamma every few minutes to simulate reality?

Also, actual humans are able to use other senses to find our way. We can feel the ground with our feet, and detect objects and motion through sound and feel. This is not accurately depicted in the game either.

So please, let's not act like walking through a black screen in a video game is the same as moving through a dark night in real life.

Hasn't the last patch made the game even darker if you turn your brightness and gamma up slightly?

[/quote']Regardless of what you are trying to perpetuate, in the woods at night when the moon is not visible there is almost a 100% absence perceivable of light on the ground regardless of your eyes attempting to adjust. Even if it is clear out and the sky is lit up by stars that light has virtually no effect on what can be perceived in front of you.

Your eyes do adjust but not in the manner in which you are conveying. Being that human night vision is so incredibly terrible due to thousands of years of evolution and using sources of light at night our eyes cannot enhance what little light is actually there, we can't perceive it where as animals can.

That is the point of night vision goggles and a constant misconception with them in the real world, it enhances the light which is there but not visible to our naked eye, if there is no light they do not work.

This game accurately depicts close enough to real form what you would be able to see if there were minimal to no light source where you are and it should remain as it is.

I actually like it the way it is, despite not having NVG's.

Server pop drops, meaning i can get a space no problem and chemights provide all the light i need.

Also enables me to sneak past zeds with ease and loot places people normally avoid :D

Like others have said, in the middle of nowhere on a cloudy, moonless night with absolutely no light pollution RL can get as dark as in-game. Arma 2 to a point already simulates your "eyes" adjusting to changing light levels - for example stare at a flare in NV and then cancel NV. Note how the game mimics human rods/cones and night vision by how it slowly adjusts brightness and colour levels.

I personally love the atmosphere pitch black nights provide when stumbling through towns - with no light source as to not attract attention, whilst keeping an ear out for zombies and bandits.

Make NVG's use batteries that drain every 10 minutes. Problem solved.

That is going way over the top, an easy way to kill a game like this is making it overly intricate to even function in the game world. Continually adding things such as this is like telling the player they have to constantly hit a key every few seconds to take a breath, it's stupid, overbearing and arduous to having any kind of enjoyment in what you are doing.

Its funny because people keep saying " i go into a forest at night time and its pitch black " well most of the time im not in the forest at all im running along a paved road or running around a town all of which is not covered by any trees. yet at night its 100% dark , its not even a game at that point its a black screen. So really your trying to compare a extremely dense real life forest to this game which has no extreme dense forest. Even in towns with big shinny refletive buildings , roads , cars and once again nothing over head the game is still 100% dark , its closer to being blind then some what dark. So in other words stop saying really dense forest is any thing like wide open refeltive buildings its just dumb.

[/quote']Contradiction in 3....2.....1......

You need light for things to reflect, no perceivable light, no reflective buildings. The forest points to the area in question as there is no artificial lighting of any kind in the game world. If the towns were lit up it would provide light to the sky and somewhat illuminate the ground, this is not happening.

So night is okay, as long as it doesn't effect you and your nv's.

Right.
