Finding guns = WAYYY too easy

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I'll go 10 minutes without a gun, but with nothing to lose I'll normally just zoom my ass into the nearest spawn and find at least a winnie.

Lee enfield? Great, don't even need anything else now.

Handguns are only useful for zombies.

And high spec gear?

Shit's been duped/hacked so much finding 50 cals is a daily occurrence for me now.

Yesterdays loot was about a dozen AKMs, 2 m4a1 CCO's (one silenced), more lee enfields than I can count, 2 .50 cal AS50's (probably duped), 4 DMR's, M16, PKMs, 5 NVG etc.

Stuff is just so damn easy to get.

I really think it needs to be the case that if you find even a double barrel shotgun, you'll be over the moon.

Rifles of ANY KIND should be incredibly rare, and most people should be rolling around with pistols only.

Most sniper rifles should be removed from game altogether.

It's feeling less and less like survival and more like who's had the luckiest loot/got the biggest gun.

Our team shouldn't have high spec military gear all the time, we should be a rag tag band, with some shot guns and pistols, the odd rifle and lots of trapping equipment.

Make DayZ harder

I think it's pretty good as-is now. The only thing I've seen a problem with is hackers spawning in weapons for people.

So I can take even longer to find a gun then have it lost due to getting killed by a hacker? Nah.

Weapons can be easy to get at times. I think, like what Mike said, is fine as it is.

Make DayZ harder

I completely agree...make more buildings entranceable,so we can spend more hours trying to search it,increase Zed number, make guns spawn A LOT LESS,ammo much scarcer and expand cities like Cherno and Electro even more. Also,NW airport is joke,it must have asphalt road and many other buildings...main airport has only several shacks ?!?!

Still it would be better if they add more immersion, like :female and children zeds, only males are not realistic, add bulletproof vests, fix zed's zig-zaging,reduce they're run speed by at least 30% and then make them able to run in buildings.

That would bring nice new level of difficulty.

You realize that almost no-one has a pistol at home, right? Hunting rifles and shotguns are relatively common in pretty much all countries of the world, and pistols and military weapons pretty rare.

Its the duping that's crazy at the moment. Not even intentional duping. I'll give you a for instance. Last night I put down a new tent at our camp. I put a load of gear in it including a second range finder I had looted the day before.

Anyway saved the tent and 10 mins later the server goes down. Shit I thought I bet the dam tent is gone with all my gear. So I head back to the tens and I now see two new tents. Each with a range finder and all my shit in them. :o

Well I don't like the idea of duping so I took down the tent and left the gear to despawn. Well ok I kept the range finder,I know, I know I'm weak. :P But I did leave the other stuff.

10 minutes later the server restarts again. I sigh, go back to the tent and sure enough there is the same dam duped tent again with another pair of range finders in them and again all my high level gear.

I gave up and kept it.

I can't believe I even have to say this, but you don't adjust game design to allow for the presence of hackers.

I agree with the OP. Right now, if I run through a major town and don't find at least one gun, I'm stunned. I feel slighted, because the odds of this happening in DayZ are like zero. Even when Cherno's just been looted by six people, you'll probably find at least a semi-automatic shotgun lying in a corner somewhere. If not? Make one more pass around the town and the fire station will respawn an M4 or something.

Even in a "bad" spawn, it really only takes like ten minutes to find a gun. When it takes longer, it doesn't even matter, since until you have a gun you've got nothing to lose anyway.

I think your ease of finding weapons comes largely from you rolling with a large group, although I do agree overall. I am in a similar situation but I know that if everyone in my group vanished things would get different quickly.

If Day'Z was not infested by extreme high amount of hackers i would approve of lowering the automatic weapon/sniper rifle drop rate drastically. And make the pistol rate higher. I think that would make the game so much more tense and more enjoyable while finding a high tier weapon :D,

Now its faceroll to find a assault rifle or something like that. But as i said, as long as there is alot of hackers, keep the gun ratio high otherwise u will smash your keyboard when u get killed by a hacker

Yeah the duping is out of control lately, but I think when everything is "normal" on a server finding a gun can be annoying. Finding a gun should be hard though I like it where it is.

Aren't you lucky OP, I'm yet to see gear like that. The rarest loot I've seen in game is a M107 and that was on a hacker.

Notice all of the military posts? It shouldn't be SUPER difficult to extrapolate from there where all of the military hardware comes from...

Just because you find a gun in a house doesn't mean it belonged to the home owner... the condition of the world seems to imply that some time has passed since the catastrophe.

the hunting weapons should stay about the same spawn rate or decrease no more than 50%, but the military gear should go down significantly (even at military places), maybe closer to 10% of what they are now. for fighting zombies, an axe/hatchet works extremely well, and those should be in 25% or more of the loot piles especially outside of the major cities as people have to chop their own wood for heat/cooking. the double barrel and winchester and lee should spawn the most with the cz 550 spawning rarely.

odd i must be doing something wrong or have horrible luck cause the most i ever find is a pistol so im in favor of leaving it where it is :3

Now please tell me if im wrong, but i think the difference here is whether or not you use loot maps. I started playing with my friends roughly 3 weeks ago and we've been using loot maps since day 1, making finding weapons very easy. But last week i found out 2 other friends of mine were also playing this and had never heard of loot maps, they we're over the hill of excitement whenever they found a winchester/lee enfield.

So for those of you who thinks weapons are hard to find, do you use loot maps ?

It needs a complete rollback due to the huge amount of duped items (intentional or not).

The loot maps are practically cheating when you think about it. "oh shit, everyone is dead with zombies running around, let me google loot spawns so I can find myself a weapon!"

There should maybe be some kind of ingame system that gives hints and clues where good places for the loot are, so maybe you find a chalk board in an empty house that has a little list on it of potential loot.

Then the loot maps need to be DESTROOOOOOOOOOOOYED.

Completely agree with OP. Even without hacking or duping, firearms are still too common in DayZ. Personally I'd like to see a couple more melee weapons and low-end firearms and a little less high-end firearms.

Finding good guns isn't easy in my experience. I have been playing the last few days (searching for guns and nothing else) with loot spawn maps and heli crash site maps. It is all about luck because the good guns could be all looted before you arrive. That is what I have seen. Most of the crash sites we visited were looted, but some still had stuff left (Bizon SD with mags, FN FAL with mags, a DMR, an M107). We took the DMR and the M107 and went on our way. The barracks yielded always little to nothing.

From my experience, I have never gotten any of my stuff duped. It always happens the opposite way, I lose it or my inventory reverts to a previous state without the gun. My friend once duped a Makarov once while trying to pick up an M1911.The M1911 vanished and we were left with 2 makarovs. I remember once I found 2 L85A2 AWS at a single crash site with NVGs, and only later we lost all of it due to inventory bugs (ones we know how to avoid now, like being careful when disconnecting, giving time for the server to sync the items). I have never seen any hackers because I try to avoid full (40+) servers.

I think the game is fine the way it is. Some people get lucky and find hackers or dupe their own items and come out with great loot. Fix that, don't make the loot spawns harder. The're hard enough as is.

Loot maps do not need to be destroyed, imo. If you lived in the area and knew it, you would know right where to look for weapons. The same thing goes for places to find food and water. But since we are all entering an area that nobody has any clue about, I think the loot map is fine. Now that I know the lay of the land, I don't need it.

Last night I was on with a few friends and one of them was just starting out. He spent 5 hours trying to figure out aggro ranges, and getting lost. I think the REAL problem here is that too many people forget what it was like to be a n00b starting out in a new game. Of course the game has become easy mode now that some of us have been playing for a while.

But that's ok, I get it. Instead of having fun in the sand, and completely forgetting that not everyone plays the same way in the sandbox, some of us would rather run to our parents and ask them to make changes to the sandbox so it's fun for "them".

I knew of loot maps but never wanted to use them. I spent the first few days risking life after life in cherno/elktro to find something I could start my journey up north with. When I found a lee einfield I was so excited I jumped for joy. OH SNAP A 1911 IN THE NEXT ROOM TOO!?!? I was freakin set. Ive never come across anything high tech but recently got a DMR off a crashed helo when I logged in and it was right in front of me. I dont think its too hard to find one if you know where. But I also agree that I dont think every clan or group should be all decked out with we will rape you gear.
