Roaming Zombies

Recommended Posts

I don't see how this couldn't be implemented, but then again I'm not a game maker or programmer, but if we could get a hoard(s) of zombies similar to how wolves are done would be incredible. I don't know if this would be difficult to create but if we could hear zombies groaning in the distance like a wolf howl or bear growl would just be fantastic. Like 10-15 zombies... we could even have zombie raiding parties to hunt and take out these random spawned groups of zeds.... I've been wanting this in game for so long. PLZZZZ can we have this??? 😁😁😁

If I had my way, I'd reduce the number of animals in the game and replace them with zombies.

Not only that. I'd introduce a new game mechanic. Make the infected carry disease that will make you infected (and kill you) over time. The infection will have to be curable somehow, of course. That will make any encounter with the infected in the game a scary one. If they had a % chance of infecting you with their disease if they managed to get a hit on you, you'd have to think twice about barging into the fray with even a small number of them.

If you get your own server, this is easy to accomplish.  I had a server going in 2019 but dropped it because very few played on it.  On my server, the infected were not dynamic but instead I had a script that would randomly decide upon each server restart where to spawn them.  They would all spawn immediately upon restart.  This means some towns had them while others were free of them.  In the towns that had them, I would spawn 50 of them as a cluster and then they would begin to fan out around the area from there.

You want to talk about having your anxiety level raised -- try aggroing dozens of them at once coming at you.  The only thing is with the stun lock aspect, if you get surrounded by them, there is no hope of escape, you are simply dead.

It was pretty cool, but like I say, I wasn't getting enough players on it to justify the server costs, so it didn't last long sadly.

Hordes should absolutely be a thing in the game. I've been saying that since I started playing.

I understand why there can't be 1000's of infected walking around, though.

But, one of my best experiences in the game was being attacked in a town by a large group of them and having to jump up on something to avoid them. I killed as many as I could with my low ammo, which ran out. But that attracted more, until there was a tidy number all going mad trying to get to me. I sat there giving out to myself for not playing my usual stealthy game and hoping that it wouldn't start raining. After a while a few lads came along and systematically cleared them out. We talked for a bit and I gave them some canned food as thanks. It was all I had that was tradable. And we went on our separate ways.

But that feeling of "...bugger...I'm done", because I was stupid enough to go into a town all gung ho against zombies was, in hindsight, a pretty good lesson.

Now, I will avoid agroing zombies unnecessarily and/or use a silencer (even though that doesn't have 100% success).

It's a pity that I found out about your server so late. I would play on your server 24 hours a day. Exactly what DayZ needs. I am upset that you have closed your server. Please let us know if you suddenly decide to return your server online!

I totally agree with you. One of the best experiences I had on vanilla is that I got attacked by wolves, ran into town from them to live and in doing so aggroed the zombies too. i had to kill them all from a window in a building. Wolves and Zombies should attack each other. That doesn't feel realistic that they don't. But the fact they can create dynamically spawned wolf packs,  I don't see who they can't create dynamically spawn in zombies in the middle of the woods or grasslands.

I mean just imagine needing to run from a hoard into a town to just aggro the towns zombies so now you have 20+ zombies on you... incredible!!!

I am thinking about it.  I want to play on Namalsk first and see how that's like because I might host one with Namalsk on it.

What I would like to do is manipulate where the animals are on the map because in a real apocalypse, you'd have wildlife roaming the cities, so I think we should see wolves and bears not just in forests and fields, but also in the towns, so that's what I'd do if I put up a server.

Keep me updated too! I prefer vanilla... so as long as it's just the animals and zombies are altered i'll consider it as well.

So from what I heard from the Dayz Mod the zombies spawned dynamically around you, so you could be out in middle of the woods and they would be there....don't quote me on that. A video a while back from a current dev I think stated that they could implement something like dynamic spawning around the player to generate hordes if they thought it was feasible.

Do you guys remember how different the Standalone Survivor Games zombies were, the fast walking creepy ones? I wouldn't mind if those made a return as hordes because it looked like they worked well in SG.

I like things the way they are, mostly.  I just want the random hoard to dynamically spawn someplace like the wolves and bears do. This would add a great aspect to the game.

Big groups spawning at helicopter crashes and small groups spawning at police wrecks.  Despawns after 30 min.  Maybe give some of them grenades.   Firearms required to eliminate.   You don't want infected clumps in the new player areas tho.  Likely just a griefer tool.

And since you're adding zombies, we're definitely gonna need more landmines.  And trip wire mechanics.

roaming zombies sound cool though. helicopter crashes have enough zombies.

having them roam and push players around the map is cool.
