Am I the only one not finding ARs?

Recommended Posts

I play vanilla, on the most played servers for America. There are several of them.

Ever since 1.05, there has been a SEVERE lack of ARs. A lot of people are saying its dupers taking them out of the loot pool.

I've played over 300 hours on this update- I always spend my time north, on several different servers.

I have found 1 AR in the last 300 hours, 4-5 months, and it was at a heli crash south.

What's the deal? Its not like I'm saying I ONLY need an AR to kill someone- but using the same two or three guns is really bland and boring.

Can't even use the new mags on update 1.06 because this issue is STILL here. I never pick up majority of ammo or mags I find, scopes & handguards, buttstocks alike.

I play on servers ATL-225 FPP, DAL-100 FPP, ATL-274 TPP, DAL-067 TPP, and other various "US" servers. This has plagued all of them.

EDIT: If you play on servers that spawn ARs (i'm pretty sure this is a game wide issue though, i've tested on 9 servers) PLS let me know the server name. THNX

They are allready looted and stashed somewhere.

So you're sol.

@Greensek

Can you ask the devs about this issue?  I have wondered this myself for a while now.

Is there or isn't there currently a bug (still present in 1.06) related to this?  My understanding was that stashed loot is not supposed to affect the CLE, but clearly, it is and has been for a while now, so is that actually a bug or did the CLE philosophy change somewhere along the line and that is now as expected?

In other words, as McWendy has stated, if someone stashes all the ARs, is it the devs intention that we are SOL or is that actually a bug being worked on?

Fair question i think

As i took it the items on logged out characters dont count for the cle. Stashed items do count.

@Greensek enlighten us please.

This is correct.

I'll check to see if there's some problem with the loot on the servers,

I'll ask about this ones:
ATL-225 FPP

DAL-100 FPP

ATL-274 TPP

DAL-067 TPP

Let me know of other servers that you feel it has been harder than usual to find AR's.

Thank you

This is much bigger problem on consoles, with pretty much every server not spawning higher end loot like ARs. There is a massive problem with duped loot on Chernarus, particularly in the Apartment buildings near Balota which are full of conventionally accessible rooms that can be glitched into using a number of exploits, and are often used to store tents and crates loaded with ARs. Been playing on Xbox for about 3 months now, on multiple servers and military bases only ever spawn AKus, SKS, and SKGs. Wasn't until I started finding the apartments full of duped and glitched gear that I realized why.

I don't know if 1.06 addressed any of these exploits, especially the duping one, but it's a HUGE reason why having one character for both Chernarus and Livonia is a bad decision. Scores of players in Chernarus have an unfair advantage because of these glitched out stashes in Chernarus that they can endlessly pull high end gear from. It's destroyed the loot economy of this game.

@Greensek

Stashed items do count towards the CLE and that is by design?  😲

Wow, I honestly thought it was a bug that would eventually be fixed.

My understanding of the purpose of the CLE was to repeatedly check what loot is "available to be looted in the world" and replenish those items that have fallen below the nominal amount for said item.  Something that is buried is clearly not available to be looted -- well, you could make the argument that if you found the stashed location, then it would be, but you know what I meant there.

If this is the case, it's a poor design.  One person/group should not be able to control all of any single item on the server.

Stashes are a good idea in theory but there has to be some kind of balance to it. It's so easy to just lose track of or hide stashes no one will ever find. I can only imagine how many ARs and NVGs are just buried, never to be heard from again.

45 days for buried items is far too long. It should be 7 days tops. If you aren't interacting with your stashes every 7 days, chances are, you aren't interacting with them at all. Players shouldn't be able to find an M4, drop it a random crate (which is far too easy to make given how powerful it is) and most likely still have access to it a month and some change later, especially if that item isn't going to spawn on the map now.

I play on PC, I play very often and know how to loot, its not a matter of being a noob.

What I'm talking about, is in the last 3-400 hours (95% SPENT NORTH LOOTING BASES) I didn't find a single AR on any of these very popular US servers.

To say I don't know how to loot/that I'm unlucky is neglecting the sheer amount of ARs that I found prior to 1.05, we're talking leaving Tisy with 3 ARs every single visit north, on the same servers.

@McWendy
@drgullen

@Greensek

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been dealing with this for ages. I truly hope it gets fixed!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you, really made my day!

I respectively disagree, I just think it should be harder to have hidden stashes in general. But once you have a bunch of hidden stashes, its so hard moving it all. Also, how would they keep track if you can just dig it up and bury it again? But alas, no point in tents or anything when you can just bury. Maybe bigger mounds for bigger buried containers, like barrels and sea chests.

I really, really appreciate it. You have no idea how much this has bugged me!

I have had issues with this on many servers.

While I don't remember the exact numbers at the end, I ran into this issue on one of the HC servers with US in the name, and one of the TPP servers:

US 3664263
US 3664728
US 3664284
US 3664185
US 3664401

US 3664224 HC
US 3664362 HC

Wait, just re-read everything. So buried loot is supposed to count as obtainable? I mean, come on though. It's so hard finding buried stashes. Even if they're on the coast...

So that's clearly the reason there are no ARs. Don't even worry about asking the devs, we already knew why the ARs were not spawning, now we have confirmation that it is DayZ's design that does it. 😕

@Greensek

If I would have known that's how it works, then I wouldn't have asked at all 😕 Sucks that hoarders are ruining it for everyone else. What are we supposed to go around with metal detectors attached to our sides and even then RARELY finding ARs buried? 😕

Working as intended. Every server has a finite amount of weaponry, equipment, and other items on it. Every single item currently looted counts towards the CLE. It literally says this in the code. So if I go loot an M-4 from the northwest airfield the server says - Ok, this player has this item, I can only spawn X more of the item until we're at the cut-off. Not every item on the server has a count, but a lot of them do. These counts go for things like Inventory, hoard, etc. So if you've got two M4's, and ones in a tent, and you're carrying another, then that's two M4's the server will not spawn again. With all of that said, I am not entirely sure how public servers work in regards to loot counting because all the experience I have with it is being an admin of a private server. It could work one of two ways.
1. It keeps a count of every single player ID on the server and their inventory when they log-out and all the equipment that counts towards the CLE will do so or
2. Public servers don't count those items towards the CLE.

I'm less inclined to believe the second theory because you said you're having difficulty finding equipment.

Yes, it does suck. It's actually one of the main reasons i play exclusively on private servers however in that case sometimes it worse rather then better. With that being said, there will always be weaponry on the server because things like SKS doesn't really have a limit, I think. Always remember, every gun in the game can kill someone and in some cases do it more effectively. Shotguns in close quarters are very effective and the SKS can/will kill someone just as easily as an M4, AK, AKM, etc.

Honestly there are few really easy solutions to this problem.

1. Make assault rifles and most guns unable to be buried.

This might seem harsh, but there are countless ways to store them at a base. Tents and barrels are perfect for these larger items and can't be buried, but still allow players to store things.

2. Crates should be harder to build.

With a box of nails and an axe, I can build 7 crates in less than five minutes. Given how powerful they are, and how easy they are to hide, this seems really overpowered. The recipe of 2 planks and 10 nails is far too low.  Something like 10 planks and a box of nails, or increasing the time it takes to craft them, would balance this quite a bit.

3. Buried Stashes Should Only Last 7 Days.

I said this above, but this is really the big one. 45 days is just way too long, and really limits both incentive to check on your base, and the chances that anything buried will cycle back into the CLE. If you aren't checking on your stashes in 7 days, you probably aren't checking on them at all.

These, coupled with duping fixes and the various tent and apartment exploit fixes, the loot economy of this game would bounce back drastically.

These of course are just micro problems with the game as a whole. Server performance needs to be the top priority, as its particularly awful on Livonia right now, but this stuff would definitely help.

Highly agree with all of these, except for the last one. There would be no incentive to really make buried stashes at that point.

This all makes sense to me now. I appreciate ppl elaborating. Does suck, I need to find a good private vanilla server that's consistently at least high-med pop or high pop. Any suggestions possibly?

Also, I agree that every weapon can kill. Shotties can 1 shot a plate carrier (or at least knock em out. that's more than enough to kill) I've been using 74u's and SKS's ever since 1.05 update. I've wiped entire squads, biggest thing I'm bummed about though is the fact that I can't use a lot of the ammo I find, buttsocks, grips, scopes/sights, ect. I haven't even been able to use any of the new mags due to this. 😕  Sucks only being excited to find 74u ammo. I feel like so much of the loot on the game is just none-usable. I feel that should be a big enough reason for dayz to at least look at a fix. I mean, they did a drastic fix to fix server hopping, and the AR spawns are worse now then before that update.

I would love to see a fix for this, at least on public servers. Would totally make sense to at least take into consideration 1 of thepoey's suggestions.
