Realism but with no logic.

Recommended Posts

The dev's are aiming for logic and realism with a lot in this game.

For example, changing backpack does not automatically move your gear to the new backpack, you have to load bullets manually in magazines and so on.

Other things are not realistic or logical at all.

Apple trees....they are full of apples, but you can't pick one but instead have to wait until a tree drops an apple.

Drinking a soda until it's empty...but you can't refill/use the can to fill with water?

You can dig for worms with a shovel, but you only find one everytime?

There are facets in every building, but you can't get water?

While DayZ is striving to be an authentic survival experience, first and foremost, it is a game.

Just to ask behind your own questions:

Would it be realistic or fun to have an entire tree of apples at all times? Would you rather have each tree wear it's apples only once a year? Realistic, but definitely not fun in a game.

Same for water in every building, would it be realistic to have fully functioning water support in the post-apocalypse, and would it be fun?

Digging multiple worms was possible and might be possible again, anyway it is not a priority right now. More a question of balancing once we move towards/past 1.0.

Continuing to work with soda cans is also an interesting thought (we had for example concepts of traps with them), but filling not closable cans with water while running around might not be the best idea in terms of realism and making any fluid container reusable might not be fun either.

Faucets not having water actually makes sense.  Water will either come from a well or from a town water system.  Both require power to pump the water to the faucet.  So no, in reality there wouldn't be water.

Apple tree I get.

Refilling a can you can't close?

Digging for worms I get.

It's an apocalypse, pretty sure utilities (facets) stopped working a long time ago.

How do you know it was a long time ago?

I don't see any rotten zombies..just fresh infected.

Maybe it was 2 months since the outbreak?

Its authentic and realistic in the style of a playable video game...

You edit and tweak things that suit the style of gameplay that you, as a developer and/or player want to play and experience in the game.

Its like a 'Real life' 'True Story' Movie...its exaggerated in parts and dumbed down in others, with some parts completely removed. Not everything is worth keeping the same as its boring so parts needs hyping up to put more action/effect in and other parts are too 'explicit' 'repetitive' etc so they dumb it down or remove it.

For example; Apple trees, if you could take every apple; you would never starve?  Totally making it pointless to even have a starvation meter of food is so readily available.
