Mookie (original) 799 Posted August 21, 2016 Sheesh, is this really worth a poll? It's not like the whole Quonset/Nissen Hut debate...
Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted August 21, 2016 It's called South Barracks as a throwback to the mod days, when the only building you could enter there was one of the old-style long-hallway barracks with the bunk-cots.
emuthreat 2837 Posted August 21, 2016 I call them the well barracks, because it doesn't discriminate against the 80% of the population who doesn't care to learn their cardinal directions...

I agree, i too have called them south barracks but because some of the people dont get it, we have to use some object like the well to describe that area. Best to just say South West barracks, by the well. <Then you have to explain yourself x10 over.... you know that place with the well... "HUH" where is that? You know the well.... "OH yeah that well" i remember that now! thanks. Geezious!!!!!
emuthreat 2837 Posted August 21, 2016 ^Agreed. It's amazing how even some people who know the map very well, have difficulties expressing specific places effectively to a group of three or more others effectively on the first try. It's kinda fun to think about, how back in each player's beginner days, this was super common; but it never fully went away because people use different terminologies and have different ways of looking at things. Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted August 21, 2016 You know what's even better? "There's a guy!!" "Where?" "He's shooting at me!!" "Where is he?" "Right there!!" No further indication. Apparently some people's brains go right off when they're playing DayZ, which explains KoS sprint-looting quite easily.
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted August 22, 2016 That happens to us all, especially when we're new. Even in the mod it took a while for people to learn common building slang (streamers made it a bit more common but taste in streamers still vary), and proper use of the compass. Now, it's even harder. I don't think this is a bad thing at all. It's part of the magic. Man, if I had a dime for every time someone said the "red brick building" but meant the common orange brick building I'd have money to pay off my parking fines. We call it south barracks only because those are the terms we are used to in arma - dayz. So both are correct.
serelaw 17 Posted August 23, 2016 Yes, South compound. The wall and gate around it define it as such. Camo building(or jail) if you must. Business in the front, party in the back. Both different call outs next to each other.
