Suggestions For .60

Recommended Posts

1.) When the update comes out there should be a celebration graphic on the main menu. Maybe even a joke about how long we waited for .60 to come out. Or something like "We have successfully optimized the game! Enjoy the 22 FPS!

2.) Server loading que. Like you can click "Wait In Que" and when someone leaves you can join. Maybe something that allows you to que in with your friend so you can join at the same time.

______________________________________________

3.) Increase the right click zoom. A lot of people find it useless because it doesn't zoom in much. I don't believe it should zoom in like it used to but I believe it needs to be increased by a lot more, maybe even more than doubled. As it is now, there is almost no benefit.

4.) Player should move slower up stairs. It is super easy to sprint upstairs. It seems like it is just as the same as sprinting on flat road (it probably is the same).

______________________________________________

5.) Report server button. Maybe something in the server selection menu where you can file a report and then it is sent in to the hosting site. I am pretty sure that this is very possible and almost 100 percent likely to happen. People rarely report servers where admins abuse, dupe, or other things. There are tons of servers which try to discourage you from joining like "Constant restarts and wipes, random deaths" and other names to stop players from joining. Noone wants to spend 30 minutes reporting a server when they could just click a button and type out the problem and then the hosting site can review it.

6.) Add a super light caliber revolver. Like the S&W 500. (Just kidding)

Hope you enjoyed reading my suggestion list (especially number 6). These are mostly ideas that would improve the smaller things that happen in dayz for an overall better experience. Comment what you think! Or don't.

Ok, completely ignoring that all the features and content for .60 is nailed down already and that we are probably waiting on some driver updates, I'll bite.

1. Not their style really, but I guess it's possible.

2. This suggestion is my favorite and would probably be easy to implement.

3. Right click zoom has been changed 3 or more times already and will likely stay the same or similar due to factors based around actual qualities of the human eye.

4. Anything related to player movement is 100% irrelevant as we are getting an entirely new player controller module.

5. Not likely either, but I guess you can dream.

I will bite as well..

1. Never likely to happen because just as Biohaze said it isn't their style plus it could cause unnecessary backlash.

2. I agree with you and Biohaze. This feature would be amazing and would give players a chance to get into their favorite servers.

3. This will probably never happen. Go outside and look down your street and then try to zoom in so you can see even further? Unless it becomes possible for the human eye to zoom and see further this will be just a pipe dream.

4. Biohaze already touched on this.

5. I like this idea as well but it will probably never be implemented. Being able to report servers that are breaking the rules without leaving the game would be a welcome feature but I highly doubt the devs would implement something like that but who knows it could happen in the future.

1. They won't need to tell us to celebrate, I'm certain.

2. I am pretty certain that this will happen in the future. It's almost standard for multiplayer games now, so DayZ really doesn't have any reason to not have it.

3. You shouldn't even be able to zoom in at all with the naked eye. For all its problems, H1Z1 doesn't allow you to do this, so zooming optics like binoculars increase in value. Being able to see far in a game like DayZ is important and has survival value. Knowing what's ahead is very important. Sometimes life saving. The naked eye shouldn't be able to zoom in like a scope. It will lead to an appreciation of binoculars and the use of optics for scouting out areas. And it will encourage players to move in closer to possibly populated places and create more impromptu player interaction.

4. I'm pretty certain that player movement will be addressed at a later stage, and vertical movement could possibly receive a major overhaul.

5. Ehhhh, I'm not a fan of this entirely. DayZ isn't like Battlefield or Dirty Bomb or other games where you can tell which player is which and can quickly make out what is or isn't a cheat or an exploit. DayZ has no player name indicator, no kill-cam, and no kill feed in the corner. Relative to other multiplayer shooters (and right now DayZ is a shooter and little else) you have much much less information provided to you by a heads up display to describe other players and what they do. So you really would not have any idea if you were shot in the head by a scoped rifle, or instakilled by a pistol at three hundred meters by a hacker. The result would be the same. Just a black screen. There's too much possibility for players to mistake normal gameplay, which is by nature occassionaly impossible to explain based on the information you have, for hacking or devious software assistance.

H1Z1 is not at all concerned with realism, which is the point of the character eyes' variable FoV.  It's inappropriate to think of it as an extra zoom since the zoomed level represents the eye's natural resolution and optics magnifications are based off this (ie: 4x binos = 4x "zoomed in" eye). Speaking of magnified optics, they've always been a huge advantage in DayZ and ARMA so I see no need to make them even more essential.

Since there's been some discussion regarding changes in the character zoom mechanic I decided to jump in and explain what are we trying to achieve. We should probably start by asking the question "Why have a characters-eye zoom in the first place?". It's the old problem with emulating a 3D world on insufficient hardware. The human field of vision (fov) is around 190° and the area where the vision cones of both eyes overlap is around 100°. Unfortunately, most of todays monitors viewed from a regular distance usually tend to cover only 45°of human fov in real life. This means that if you want for target on screen to appear in real-life size you are only able to display around ~1/2 of what you would see in reality, stereoscopically. And so as a designer you have to choose - Should I display objects in the distance properly but sacrifice the overall vision or set the fov to 100° but deform the whole picture? The trick of Arma is actually not to choose and instead introduce an "eye zoom" instead. This way you can keep the surrounding awareness by setting the default fov to 100°, but when necessary to perceive a depth of field properly occurs (ie. you are shooting), you can "zoom in" to 45°.

From my experience of playing Arma, the ability to toggle the FOV at whim, especially in the monstrously overpowered 3rd person, is something that represents a huge negative aspect of an otherwise interesting game. I won't even play this game without friends because of it.

I understand where you're coming from on the 1st person aspect, though I would prefer something more static in terms of view. To each his own.

Well, that's a subjective gameplay issue, personally I rage quit DayZ during 0.57 as the minFov change made it unplayable for me. Most players don't seem to care too much. The realism/simulation aspect, not so debatable, our monitors aren't eyes and can't represent human visual acuity at a single FOV.
