Khalid Bin Walid 5 Posted March 29, 2016 House doors (front doors) should be locked by default. That way players have to break into houses. They can use a lockpick to make less noise or pretty much anything else. If a player is making too much noise zombies within a small radius should walk slightly closer. Anyone like this idea? I like it because its completely boring when looting in DayZ. Any player can loot up and be super equipped while completely silent because there is nothing that requires them to make noise besides opening the doors. It is not a big game changer but it would make the game feel more immersive because you actually have to think about your actions. Do you want to make noise and possibly attract players or find another silent way to get in? This could also lead to crowbars having a scroll option on doors to open them with just a little noise. You guys like this idea :D ?
stinkenheim 249 Posted March 29, 2016 Little point in this imo. Doors would only be locked for the first person to encounter them. On a full server that resets every 6-12 hours it'd be unlikely that you'd encounter a locked door after a few hours.
Guest Posted March 29, 2016 The whole idea that somewhere is locked means somewhere has been there within the server restart.

Noctoras 409 Posted March 30, 2016 I second the OP's notion. Not a gamechanger, but it would be a useful feature.
KnoXy (DayZ) 3 Posted March 30, 2016 Perhaps if some houses carried higher tier loot or more common loot than usual, all doors could be locked, or even boarded up. It's just a thought, but looting would be kind of annoying if all doors were locked by default.
Pba (DayZ) 9 Posted April 17, 2016 I think 30% random doors per restart should be locked
Funkdoc 46 Posted April 17, 2016 i think thats too much... most houses should be enterable because of bambies with no tools. but 5-10% i can imaging as a good relation. those houses should then spawn high civilian loot. that keeps the bambies in town because before they leave, they will try to enter all buildungs in a town (or even not) so first they have to look for tools around there. GaryWalnuts 1680 Posted April 17, 2016 It's been suggested before but I do like the idea of some randomly locked doors. I occasionally use wardrobes for temporary storage but I'd never lock the door to the house. As it stands now, a locked door is a guarantee that a player has locked it intentionally so when another player finds a locked door he is going to try to get inside almost every time. Right now, locking a door is akin to advertising your whereabouts and it kind of defeats the purpose of locking anything. I'm not going to guess at a percentage, but if randomly locked doors were "not uncommon" then a door that was locked by a player won't immediately result in an attempt to breach it, making door locking a viable strategy.

The devs, I think Hicks specifically, has said that this is to avoid these huge ugly box structures appearing all over the map. I concur. Building is horrible. We will, however, be able to build things like scrap walls and gates - like a walled encampment. We will also be able to barricade pre-existing structures. Having, say, 30% locked doors would be great - maybe even more. Doors should 'respawn' as well, so they can become locked if they were opened before. There would still be plenty of loot for players that aren't equipped to open locked doors, but there would be even more loot for players who are willing to take the risk to bash down a door (it is loud, after all) or who have a lockpick.
Troll_Hunter 54 Posted May 14, 2016 I like the idea of making sound a much better part of the game. Players, animals, infected all should produce all sorts of sounds by all sorts of contact. Walking, bumping into things, rubbing, breaking twigs, eating, talk, pain sounds(!!!), engines, echoes, wind, leaves, flying and rolling trash etc. Opening doors, breaking open, kicking in doors, should all have different sounds and sound ranges and should be a real consideration. [Chriss] 9 Posted May 16, 2016 I really like the idea and would be cool if some doors are harder to open, f.e. Firestation or militairy buildings... I especially like the idea with the noise
