brazorf 46 Posted January 7, 2016 I was on the first floor of a house watching a guy in my hunting scope.Downstairs, the main door was closed (not locked). Since i saw him scan the area with binoculars, and he was there just standing in the bushes, chances were that his mate / mates were coming for me, so i was alerted for any sound whileaiming at him. All of a sudden ive heard an axe swing and You are dead. There was not the door sound, neither a single footstep. How is that possible? Is there some new sneaky way of opening doors? brazorf 46 Posted January 7, 2016 Well, i suppose that if that was a desync issue involving sounds i wouldn't hear the axe swing neither.
CornProducts 315 Posted January 7, 2016 Well, i suppose that if that was a desync issue involving sounds i wouldn't hear the axe swing neither. The thing with desync is that you never really can predict when it will happen and what it will affect.
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Or justify it having occurred at times either. It's kind of the Higgs Boson of DayZ morbidity... This has happened to me before though, namely when following people that profess to be friendly, i'll offer them something. Was picking apples with a bloke and he kept trying to get me to 'glitch them' by pressing a complex list of keys, and said that would fill my inv with apples. I felt a bit shadey that he was trying ot get me to do something precarious, like HandsUP or something by accident, and started scanning around. I didn't get 360, but i got a good look in. Axe Chop. You are Dead.Suspicious, but it's the doubt that kills me... Your issue could be quite different though, despite the axe chop. I think patient players are able to move silently if they tap move keys very lightly and wait in between steps, try to synch possible footsteps with ambient noise etc... Unlikely but possible. LegitGlitchHack Options above ;P edit: as a side note, players were recently identifying that they could spawn in, and their actual game experience was 'out of body'. The game would maintain their actual player character at a given spot, but in their PC/game they could run around, and were invisible to others. Not sure if also silent. That said, alongside glitch it could be an exploit of some kind. All in all though. You're dead and the gear's gone. Stay alert, and keep reporting any strange issues to bug tracker / record if possible. Glad to read them here too. stinkenheim 249 Posted January 7, 2016 The axe guy could have been doing the weapon glitch/stuck animation thing which means there are no footstep sounds. Also there is the issue with doors being open/closed on one screen but not the other so it's possible he was able to walk through doors which were open on his screen and axe you without you knowing. A lot of ifs and buts but then there is the same thing with desynch or hacks tbh.
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 7, 2016 Yeah, without proof of foul play there's little that can be concluded or changed. Just gotta throw yourself back into the world kicking and screaming.I record most plays now, delete if non-eventful. Very helpful for review purposes too. Shadow Play is free if you have an Nvidia chipset GPU, although it can be taxing on frame rate / resources depending on setup.
brazorf 46 Posted January 7, 2016 Also there is the issue with doors being open/closed on one screen but not the other Sounds completely new to me. Any source?
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 8, 2016 i also wasn't aware of client-side door positions.
stinkenheim 249 Posted January 8, 2016 Sounds completely new to me. Any source? I have had it happen a few times with myself and my friend and I've seen it plenty of times in streams where two streamers are playing together. Punching the door/wall will usually reset the doors to the correct position and also re-logging normally fixes things. AFAIK it's been an issue since the exp builds of this patch. Bororm 1156 Posted January 9, 2016 You positive it was an axe swing? If you were looking out a window you might have just gotten sniped. Sometimes a headshot where you don't hear the shot sounds a little similar to being smacked in the head with a melee weapon.
Zurvivalist 300 Posted January 9, 2016 Their is a legit way to move dead silently on any surface. I use it a LOT , learned it when i stopped using firearms for a while and only use stun baton on full pop servers. Its not something I share outside of my PvE hunting groups now though . q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 9, 2016 I think he's saying that certain actions can change the state of open/closed experienced between two players, and it seems like it's a bug/glitch, not that doors are client-side like i first interpreted. It's definitely news to me, as i close doors frequently while moving into buildings so that its a physical impediment and 'soft alarm', and every time i've had someone come into the building they've had to open the doors. Still, i suppose not seeing doesn't mean not there...
Zurvivalist 300 Posted January 9, 2016 Interesting. Door was closed thoughDoors can be weird due to player desync or something .. example. My friend opens a door and enters a house. I'm right behind him , see him run through closed door, and have to re open it myself to enter .
Bororm 1156 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) The open/closed door thing I don't think necessarily applies to another player closing a door though. In all my experience, though I must admit I've never tested it deliberately, the bug is that one player sees default door states as open (which is the legitimate state) and the other sees them as closed. The player who sees them as closed has to essentially open them twice, which is actually closing them first then reopening them. For the first player, he'll see the other closing an already open door then opening it again. If the first player were to close the door, I think the second player would just be opening it once. But still have to open it. Edited January 9, 2016 by Bororm
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 9, 2016 Hmm. i have noticed that occasionally i need to double-press use key to open some doors... This generally happens to entire buildings or all doors once i log in from memory (as opposed to only specific, occasional doors). But you can't run through them when they're in open(appear closed) state though?..
emuthreat 2837 Posted January 9, 2016 The double-closed door issue seems to stem from a reset server issuing random door states. I've been playing a few times when the server reset, and doors that I had just used a few minutes ago were then reset to double-closed status. Often this will appear the same for two players. Sometimes it doesn't. Cold Atrophy hopped out of a sedan to open a gate for me the other day. In my perception, the gate was already open. It ruined the two front wheels. Bororm 1156 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) It's a really shitty bug and leads to a lot of potentially terrible scenarios imo. I can't say I've ever really died to another player because of it, but it's a very real possibility for it to happen. Along with other desync problems as mentioned in this thread (like stances/sliding). I really wish they'd get these sorted out. Grimey Rick 3417 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) It wasn't an axe swing, it was a bullet from range that turned your face into mush. Bullets make that sound when they hit you but are shot far enough away for you to be unable to hear the initial bang. It's one of my favorite parts about this game.EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, since I've returned to DayZ me and my friends have been relentlessly hunting people in a wolf pack of three. There's something wrong with us. Our characters have all lost our minds and posses a "burn the world" disposition.I sniped probably two dozen people from Balota to Novodmitrovsk over the past few days. Both of my buddies roll with AK variants while I prefer a Blaze/Winchester/Mosin and a sidearm. I'm not claiming it was me, but hey, you never know. <3 Edited January 9, 2016 by Grimey Rick

smoq2 221 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) As Grimey Rick said, 99% you were just sniped. It didn't have to be from a range - many guns glitch out (e.g. the mosin) and don't play the fire sound for other players. Many of my friends don't hear me shooting, although standing right next to me. Also, a bullet hitting your body makes the same (probably placeholder) sound as being hit with an axe. Since there was no gunshot sound to mix, you could hear the hitting sound loud and clear. Hate to say it, but "typical alpher". I'm not sure what are you talking about, however if you refer to the single-tap W to have yourcharacter "slide" forward multiple times, without footsteps, i've my doubts that's legit. If you found another way ignore my note, but i would private message devs on the trackerto make sure that's a legit way and not an exploit.
