Thoughts from being gone almost a year.

Recommended Posts

I have not played really since .55 and I decided to come back and check out stable .59 after checking out DayZ TV. I wanted to post my thoughts.

On a good note the game it seems to be running much smoother, this after playing on 5 or 6 lower ping servers. I liked the new 3rd person views and UI. I also saw loot spawns have changed a bit. Also liked some of the new crafting options and items.....Have not messed with the new cars and bus.

The zombies seemed abit rare unless I was in what once was a highly populated area or military base. I was able to evade them pretty easy just by sneaking. They were fairly easy to kill when needed. I think the zombie AI has improved most def since early 2015. Not running through walls ect ect ect so I like the new ones better. But they didn't really seem vary challenging though or caused me to rethink were I was going.....either sneak past them or kill them.

It really didn't seem that challenging to play, anymore then the way it was a year ago. It still pretty easy to find enough loot to survive in the citys, and all the survival aspects still seem to be a side novelty thing one could do if they wanted...Like hunting, fishing, cooking, crafting ect ect...But I do like they added many more options. So there's nothing to force players to go survive in the woods, its more if you want to for fun you can, but its not out of desperation. Same as it was. I wonder if one day possibly loot counts and how hard survival is, would vary from server to server later.

Most of what I saw was positive, and a smoother running game over all. There still pretty long waits on servers...but that's really based on 3rd party servers. Change is slower then I would like but, they are making head way.....so I am not complaining. These things take time. So over all I found it to be enjoyable, still DayZ SA.

Im still waiting for the challenging survival elements myself. But compared to .58 this is an improvement because the zombies were not in stable at all.

I almost wonder if the plan is to make it vary from server to server when completed, seeing that survival mechanics are there. I think that because the mechanics and items are there or getting there. But really there no reason to hunt unless or what have unless one wanted too. But from what I saw playing it never rained, my avatar really only got hot running for long periods......nothing else. Never once got cold. It was easy as ever to keep those 3 green bars lit.

The zombies are way better now then last time I played along while ago. I like the new noises they make. There's not that many though.

I think seeing what I saw.....I think that really the developers best bet is to make server and or hive hosts to be able to modify loot spawns, weather, time, dates of year ect. So some would be more for survival challenge, some for pvp ect ect so you could just play on servers based on play style or what you want out of it....Cause really you can't please everyone's play style, but that would help. Might already be in the works down the road...who knows.

I'm hoping for some kind of dynamic weather-seasonal system...

or just gotta wait for mod support and a Namalsk map so i can stick heat packs in my jocks.

But yeah, heat atm is quite a non-issue although people do complain about getting pretty hot in ghilli suits.

Once they figure out how to have more of them they will be an issue. I'd love to see player death be a spawn trigger for zombies.

I think the long-term aim has got to be to provide for all play-styles within the same server - this will come through balancing the loot distribution, weather and health mechanics - and not to rely on different servers having different set-ups. A big part of the appeal of the game is that sandbox element - different people choosing different ways to play within the same 'world' (ie. server). That should be perfectly possible to achieve.

But this is for further on in the game's development. I don't think the challenge or difficulty level that's presented now (or at any time during the alpha phase) is representative of final goals for the finished game. And it really doesn't matter at this point.

The answer is yes. The developers will release the server files so everyone can host a DayZ server. With these server files come different control options so controlling loot will be a thing. I guess the samething will apply to weather and various other aspects.

There will also be a scripting language/way to mod the game for modders provided by the developers themselfs. Expect a lot of serious mods but also fun mods.

With this modding also comes a singleplayer mode where you can test mods or just play on your own.

Welcome back by the way and glad you noticed the improvements. Have fun & stay safe. :)

Zombies only just made it back in, survival mechanics are basically only in for testing purposes at the moment and will be fleshed out more in the future. Hold fast, have faith!

Thanks,

Well I am looking forward to the day they do add more options to the servers and hives them selves. Playing dayz recently I can see it slowly coming together, there's more options. I can see something like that being possible. Allowing hives and server hosts to have more options. I want servers and hives to be different, set up by the hosts. Or at least allow private servers to have settings. Some will be cold rainy and hard to survive in, some could be a pvp free for all, and mods + dlc. More maps. That would be cool. The game seems like that is with in grasp. I  don't think its anything new to have that. Still a while out though, that's what I want to see.

As far as me being back, well I pretty much never just gave up on it. It was more sit back and wait in see. I def think its better then it was a year ago. Still a concept I find vary interesting.
