Make towns unique with unique loot?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is tired of seeing the same buildings in every town

Why not make a building that's only in one town?

And make towns have something unique about them

For example Pustoshka has a big unique mechanic store that has a bigger chance of spawning car parts. tools etc.

Gvozdno has a huge farming market that has a big chance of spawning seeds, gardening tools etc so If you want to plant seeds at your camp thats where you should go.

Cities like Cherno or Elektro have a mix of all of those but with lower spawn chance because they're the most populated places and most of the loot has been taken

This is really cool idea. There really is room for a couple of small additional buildings spread around that would motivate players to travel across the map.

An Ikea would be perfect for base building!

I don't think most would see it like that most would say hey that building has a lot of useful stuff...Let's camp out side and shoot everyone who comes here. same shit different day add what ever important buildings and shit you want the more fancy shit it has the more likely you are to die due to what i stated above. I for one do not care but just wanted to state it wouldn't make folks move around they would yes go to them and just kill everyone though i have no problem with that  I would avoid those buildings like the plague don't foll yourself thinking it will be some special motivator for migration more like motivator's for PVP.

Yeah you're probably right, but the more of these spots there is it helps to decentralise the PvP. And I do like the idea of a car mechanics depot or gardening centre.

I think this would be pretty cool, actually. More than just landmarks that can be found in cities, have semi-purposes for the certain towns. . Like a specialty that would make sense.

Coastal Cities would have a vast variety of goods and gasoline, but nothing in bulk.

Farming Cities would have garden supplies and useful items for growing, as well as more food content.

Factory Cities would have random goods, car parts, barrels.

Of course, this wouldn't ruin the randomness of the game! Simply give more markers and locations where certain goods may be found more easily. - All goods would still have the condition to be able to be found in a town that doesn't have the specialty.

Art assets (especially large ones) can be very time consuming to draw and configure.

Merely opening100% of the existing buildings is already a huge task. (The mod had far less buildings and far fewer enterable buildings, like -30%?)

Even many of the smaller shed structures, workshops, and factory buildings are only recently enterable.

Regional loot control is being worked on and will have a better effect on game play than specific houses with specific loot.

I do believe that detailing the existing buildings in different towns to give a better sense of individuality has been discussed but not in a long time.

A simple palette swap for a few buildings could go a LONG way towards making it look like there are more types of buildings. Look at any major U.S. housing development. Many of them have what we call "cookie cutter" houses in that they are all built on the same plans. In most neighborhoods like that it's the landscaping, painting, and other decorations that ends up making all the houses look different.

Imagine if some of the "red brick houses" were brown, white, or yellow bricked. A simple house that is always red could look rather different if it was blue, green, yellow, brown, light green, dark green, tan, or even purple or yellow.

Mechanic garages, we already have gas stations and bus centers but what about small garages that we all know around the world has them.

community centers, theaters, pools???, fountains, etc...

I wouldn't mind finding a giant hardware store in say a location like Sverograd. EVERYTHING INDUSTRIAL.

I like the idea of having specialty stores and I have an idea how to implement it to encourage people to move across the map and prevent people camping certain locations.

Once a week, after a reboot, all specialty stores are in different locations.  Each store can be in any one of several possible locations, and the server would randomly decide where it would be.

Certain specialty stores would be guaranteed to have certain items you might need, like the correct type of wheel or part for a specific car you want to repair.  You might find the correct part somewhere else, but you are guaranteed to find it at that store,  therefor you now have an incentive to try and find that store and travel across the map.

Now this randomness by itself wouldn't be fun if it forced the player to have to explore the whole map, since that would hardly be practical.  If they added a newspaper item and since the game already have billboards and maps, they can create adverts on those things that can give a player the clues they need in order to find the specialty stores.

I'm hoping to create gameplay similar to a treasure hunt, where you have to use you intelligence to figure out where is the best place to go, and that it is not just a matter of searching in as many random locations as possible and waiting for the loot respawn system to eventually reward you.  I want there to be more of an element of intelligence involved with looting, not just luck.

Yeah every town and village is pretty much the same. Only thing that really separates them out is whether they have a police station, fire station or are in close proximity to some sort of military loot. Would be nice to see more unique structures (or very rare ones) that spawn specific loot, and are really the only place where you can reliably find that loot, whatever it might be.

Obviously most villages are just places where people live, so most villages would be all just residential loot and so on - but it'd be nice if some of them had something special about them.

Could also be interesting to vary loot according to map location. Up north we could maybe see more mountain backpacks and clothes and gear related to hiking. In the middle of the map where there are lots of farms we could see more farm-related loot. Shotguns, hoes, pitchforks, farming clothes, wellies, etc. Villages that are remote or are in proximity to a healthy supply of deer stands could spawn more hunting gear - rifles, ammo, hunting backpacks and clothes, and so on. Villages closer to the coast or bodies of water could have items related to fishing, like boat parts and fishing rods. You get the idea. 'Hunting' villages would likely draw a lot of traffic, but that's good. Somebody mentioned decentralisation of PvP spots, and having locations where high tier civilian loot is likely to spawn might spread players more evenly between civilian loot and gunning it for NWAF. Would also make looting more dynamic in general.
