Let me save you a headache and tell you where to NOT setup camp

Recommended Posts

This may seem obvious for the seasoned DayZ player, but this is for those new players who are excited for persistence to come back.

Please, stop setting up your camp and storing your vehicles along debug (the edge of the map North and West)

It's the first place most people go to look for camps or vehicles. I found a VS3 almost immediately above Svetlo near debug (about 3 feet from it in the open)

After driving the border of the map, I found 2 more VS3's and probably 10 or 12 barrels and tents, most with good gear.

A lot of people that setup camp think they're safe in the far North or far West, but dating back to the mod, it's one of the first places (obviously preferences apply) survivors will look for camps.

So, do yourself a favor and find a dense area not right at debug, and spread your camp out. Putting 3 tents and 2 barrels within 10 meters of each other is just asking to be cleaned out.

You're not meant to tell them that

Do you seriously expect me to have to look for camps now... ah man :/

Trust me, Stink. My favorite activity in DayZ is to look for and loot camps. Yet, there comes a point where it loses it's flare because you're shooting fish in a barrel.

no, nonononono

the north and west at the map border are the only safe places for big camps with lots of guns,

don't set up some barrels in the middle of the map where nobody runs along, especially not in the thick small pine tree forrests where nobody bothers to look

northwest at debug people, the only place to set up camp^^

(seriously dude don't tell them something like that, i needz lootz too)

That's how I determine where I set up camp. I keep it very small (no more than a barrel or 2), and I'll, based on probability, figure out the routes that are the least traveled between points of interest.

So far, my barrel with an AK has not been touched in a full server for 3 days.

i have very good experience from the mod regarding places people won't look, the black forrest for example is a place where you can park a V3S for weeks,

but there are about five places i know that are like that as well

specifically black forrest though: there are 4 pine trees where you could park a UAZ (the russian all terrain vehicle) and make it almost invisible from even 5 meters away,

and since the dev team surely didn't edit black forrest, i guess they are still there in the Standalone map (should be 094 076 if i remember correctly)

I KNOW

So many threads on this forum are people WEEPING over the fact that the northern and western edges of the map are no longer "wilderness", and as such, they are shitty for hiding camps.

I've been out there. You.... aren't going to be hiding much of anything out there, even if you stay in the woods. LITERALLY EVERYBODY knows those places are where you put camps.

Yet, fully 1/3 the map gets ignored.

it's merely a ploy to distract you from their main camps, stop falling for it.

There's this golden spot I have somewhere in the map where it has enough cover from a gorup of trees that you can set up a tent and it is not visible from any angle.

Not a single time in the mod did my tent ever get raided and I'll continue to use that area when storage is more of a thing in the standalone.

lol at even having a camp.  Guns and ammo, as much as I can carry.

The map isn't big enough, and forests aren't big enough, to set up camps anywhere. You can't really hide camps or put them far enough out in nowhere for them to be hard to find. DayZ needs bigger forests. I'm talking hundreds of square kilometers big forests.

I personally wish the map was a bit bigger myself, but with the introduction of barrels, it is very possible to hide your stash next to a tree near one of the small towns up North.

When modding comes, hopefully we'll have a larger map with more rural area.

I setup a mil tent in the church just on the coast/road before cherno heading west.. you all know the one with the huge graveyard,

it stayed there 3 days before the server lost it

i found 3 norm tents and put them above the orchards by the barns the top of the feilds as you enter berezino/lumbermill from the west heading east.
just straight up the treeline there is a fenced area, some of you know it. only a  couple houses, they stayed there for ages, full of mp5 clips. haha

If you play this game enough you'll work out where to put tents/barrels -  where most people don't bother to go. In my many cross country endeavours, I've often thought "that's a good place for a barrel" -  Just put them there and things will be sweet!

Back in mod we could hide tent inside rocks, so only small part of tent was visible. I wonder if we can do this in SA. Area north of Berezino was popular for doing that, there were big rock formations in the woods. Now that area is out of usual routes when NEAF is military location any more.

Did anyone try to set up a tent in the debug fields, behind a hill so below the visible horizon? Does persistence work in the debug fields?

Well, made a trek today from A to B and didn't find a single camp, barrel or truck (and met only 1 player whom I avoided)

Everything in the debug fields gets wiped. I remember back in the mod days, people would park their vehicles 10km into the debug so no one would find it.

Okay, well I parked myself in the debug fields so I'm curious what happens when I log back in :P

I once hid a little bird for 2+ weeks  on the old Chernarus map and I can tell you it wasn't near Debug Fields. :) In fact the location still exists on Chernarus+ and looks just as viable for something VTOL like a chopper as it ever was.  B)

I am willing to bet that everyone that complains about the map being "too small" has not yet left the "busy areas".

I've spent a week on a full-pop server, every day, trekking all across the area bounded by Pusta, Nadezhdino, Tulga, and the Black Forest. I never saw a soul, never heard a shot. Throw a tent up into a side-valley in those mountains, and it will probably never be found.

Or, one of the many many fields that lie out in the middle of nowhere.

Im telling you people, best place to put the tent is in electro.

Silly newspawns, running straight through the town, they'll never see my tent in the town square.
