[HORTICULTURE] TREE PLANTING

Recommended Posts

With the very cool horticulture thing going on, why can't we plant tree's? I mean, if base building is going to be a viable option, we need tree's to protect the identity of our bases as well as create a true farming area with apple and pear tree's. Plus if you want to role-play Johnny Appleseed, so be it!

Plant a tree today!

Also, I know Torchia is working or plans to work on new tree models...why is he so top secret about it? I send monthly tweets asking for news on it. This can't really be classified can it? Its not AS50's FFS, its a dang tree.

I'd like to see tree growing in game.

An apple tree in my camp would serve as extra food and hydration,

maybe most importantly if placed properly it could add the perfect camp camouflage.

Find some seeds, find the appropriate terrain, make sure it gets plenty of water and some disinfectant.

If pumpkins can grow in 20 minutes .... then a tree that can grow in a week, why not?

BRING ON THE TREEEEEEEES!

Trees grow for for 10-90 years, I know we have super fast growing plants but trees?

There comes a point where you have to realize that this is just a game and you should enjoy the fact that you don't have to sit for 10 years to have a tree grow in front of your base.

Why not, whats the difference? There is a lot of things in-game that is utter nonsense. Growing full crops that take months in 10-20 minutes is absurd. Whats the alternative...wait 2 months for toms to grow? We're playing a survival simulator not a time simulator. Maybe make a tree not grow in 20 minutes. Maybe make it a few days of in-game time.

Thanks for seeing the big picture.

Planting slow growing trees isn't very realisitc.  Much as it might add a little bit to the game via basebuilding and such.  Although really for those of us that 'memorize' the landscape it might help is find your base more than hinder it.  "Wait a sec, there aren't any apple trees to the north west of Zelnogorsk..." or just noticeing that there's trees where there shouldn't be.  That said, there must be some tradeoffs between realism and gameplay.  If they could find a way to balance it so say you won't have a fully grown apple tree in an hour.  Now whenever they do the 'final' tweaking for horticulture and if they add trees it should take something like a week of real time for a tree to grow and start to bear fruit, and about a day for a plant to go from seed to fruits.

Not sure of the needs of banana trees to grow/prosper but they do grow pretty fast (not a true tree however).

I still think that planted crops should take a week of real-time to grow, not a single day.

I would go a step further and I would love to see that the trees in Chernarus are persistent too.
If you chop trees to build a camp, get firewood and so on, you have to reforest the trees. If not there are just the trunks (which are ingame now) left.

But I like the idea very much, especially the fruit trees. Planting bushes should be possible too.

Instead of planting a tree and waiting a decade, why not just dig one up, put it in the back of your truck, and plant it in your base?

Or better yet, build your base around an apple orchard?

However they tweak the timers for them.  Plants a week and trees a month, with 24 hours required for fruits to regrow after harvest.

Hmm...that sounds like it'd be cool, but easily greifable at the same time.  In the Mod a guy with a Ural could deforest an entire area if he was going at speed.  Maybe not so much that you need to replant a tree once you chop it down, but that the tree won't respawn on the next restart.
