A_P_A_C_H_E 0 Posted July 31, 2015 Hey guys, long time player of DayZ, both the mod and the SA. As such I'm well aware of how buggy this game can be sometimes, and I'm not usually the person to complain but twice now I've logged from the game and had my precious (winchester 70 with scope and gun wrap) vanish from my inventory when I log back in the next day. I make sure to log out with nothing in my hands, but I'm not sure why it keeps happening. I only play on public servers, don't change around much whilst playing. I wouldn't be so bothered but to invest 4 hours of my time to finding something only for the game to take it away due to a bug is fairly annoying. So my question is how do I prevent this bug from happening next time?

Try logging out with it in your hands see if that changes anything? Try taking the scope off and put it in your bag before logging? Hope you can get it figured out. Maybe check the feedback tracker? Conrad_The_Comrade 577 Posted July 31, 2015 First question, are you playing the Stable or Experimental build? If Stable, this might help, but this is my experience from Exp. (This is only from one experience I've had with my rifles, it could be something completely different, but this might help) Alright, so I've had a couple of my guns disappear too, make sure you haven't picked up any other rifle (Crossbow included), and before each logout make sure you can put the rifle in your hands. If you can, good, now put it away again. If you can't, then theirs an issue right there. Either the item isn't in your inventory anymore and you have a fake/ghost rifle, or your hands are full already but don't appear to be. Hoping its the latter, hold G to see if you can throw it. If you can, good for you, now go make sure that it wasn't the rifle you just threw, if it was, grab it, and log out, if it wasn't, still go grab it, it is your loot after all, then see if it will let you switch to the rifle. If you can, put it back, and log out, if you can't, it's most likely a fake/ghost rifle, and I just wish you the best of luck from there.
stinkenheim 249 Posted July 31, 2015 I've lost countless weapons, mostly mp5s although one play session I lost my blaze, cr75 pistol and mp5 making me completely unarmed lol. What I've found is that using ladders with the item in hands can cause it to show in your inventory without being there meaning you can't equip it. Pressing f2 normally allows you to put it in your hands again but it will vanish when you log.I've taken to pressing f2 and then stripping it of all attachments to save hunting all but the weapon itself
deadjuice 64 Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) My brother had this happen to a gun held in his hand when a server restarted. He freaked out for a minute, and then logged out and back in, and the gun returned to his hand.I believe it has something to do with the game getting confused with your empty back slot and items that are in your hand.It could also be related to that weird bug me and him constantly run across, where he will pick up a gun and run down the block. I'll see the gun right where he left it, and I can eject the bullets, or even take it myself right out of his hands no matter how far away he is. Actually, I wonder if anyone else runs into that glitch. If not, I may have to file a feedback report now. :\ -Edited for bad spelling- Edited July 31, 2015 by Deadjuice

Mookie (original) 799 Posted August 1, 2015 Do not get attached to your loot until this game is released. It will happen again and again. Well fair enough, but it's worth asking the question why it disappears and what (if anything) we can do about it. Because we are all alpha testers and can potentially help each other out here, etc...on top of the formal feedback mechanism. OP several things to consider. The new inventory system is seriously buggy - but that's because it's trying to follow rules differently to previous patches. For example, if you have a weapon (eg an MP5) in your inventory and log out with something occupying part of the space needed for it, you may well lose it (just as in game you will drop it if the space isn't available). I've yet to lose a primary weapon as you describe, but wonder if what you're experiencing might be related to the fact that the character screen (the landing page) in the game seems way more random for me than it used to in terms of what I'm holding in my hands (usually a water bottle it seems). Also, I get a sense sometimes that particular items in my inventory are bugged somehow and causing problems within it. Finally, I try to leave at least two inventory slots free, which helps with things like reloading and picking stuff up. On the upside, Winchesters and hunting scopes aren't terribly hard to find... Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted August 1, 2015 Do whatever you can to ensure that the weapon is not in your hands on logout, but in your inventory proper. When you log back in, do a full check before even moving - if your gun's missing, check the ground beneath your feet. If no, log out and back in. If still no, cry, then go find another one.
